1991: A plan to destabilise Hong Kong is emerging; the key players are being put into place, the wheels are in motion and innocent people will die.
Frank Bowen is a Londoner on holiday in tropical Thailand. Half drunk and strapped for cash, he’s the perfect bait for a political plot that will leave him running for his life, with nowhere to turn.
An international conspiracy thriller by Jay … thriller by Jay Tinsiano, False Flag spans South-east Asia, with twists and turns that leave every character in question.
Reviews
“False Flag is by far one of the best thrillers that I have came across all year.” Amazon reviewer Manchester
“False Flag would make a great conspiracy movie.”
Goodreads reviewer Liza F.
“This genre usually does not captivate me, but this book did. Great plot, the writing style puts the reader dead center in the sweat, the moods, action and fear. I have been in and out of Asia many times and this book took me back without the cost of a plane ticket and was a heck of a lot more entertaining than a long plane ride. Great book!”
Brad Hayes
“Very well depicted scenery and awesome character depth. A quick read, a brilliant plot, and a wonderfully well written story.”

I really enjoy Tinsiano’s storytelling and how he creates and weaves the subplots together. Well-written and terrifyingly possible! Looking forward to working through the rest of his works!

This novella serves as a prequel-ish introduction to Jay Tinsiano’s Frank Bowen Conspiracy Thriller series. It’s set 8 years before the next book, Pandora Red. This is my first book by Tinsiano and while it had a slow start I found myself really enjoying it once the action kicked in. There is a huge cast of characters to keep track of made easier by breaking up POV/perspective by chapter.
As an untrained civilian, Frank Bowen relies more on sheer luck than skill to survive being set up as the supposed bomber of a commuter train. What I liked is that Tinsiano doesn’t try to turn Bowen into some kind of expert with no foundation. It’s purely Frank’s determination and fear driving him to escape the web he’s caught in.
Chris MacDonnell is also new to me. I enjoyed his narration, accents, and inflections. As I said, this book has a lot of perspectives and MacDonnell did a good job distinguishing all the characters. The only drawback was that MacDonnell sounds much older than the 26yo Frank Bowen and with so many of chapters from Frank’s POV, it was difficult to remember that. Since subsequent books have Frank older, it probably won’t be as stark a contrast.

Fast-paced and compellingly suspenseful…
I began this book thinking I would just go through a couple of chapters before bed – I was SO wrong. I was hooked from the beginning and had to keep going until I finished the last sentence. This is a great story that clips along as a brisk pace, it is filled with suspense and there are such interesting characters to fuel the action. The lead character, Frank, comes into some money and decides to take a bit of time to travel. What follows is an adventure filled with conspiracy, action, and first-rate globe-trotting excitement that will forever change the course of Frank’s life. It was a completely enjoyable thriller and for those who listen to the audio version, the narration by Chris MacDonnell was spot on.
While I did purchase a copy of this book, I was provided with a copy of the audiobook by the author and I am voluntarily offering this honest and unbiased review.
False Flag, my first read from author Jay Tinsiano and it won’t be my last. Extremely well written, the characters, well developed. I’m a character reader, I get into the characters. Who and what they are. Why they do the things they do. The things that make a reader get invested into the characters and thereby the book and this book does! I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. I was impressed and enjoyed the vocal variety & inflections of narrator Chris Macdonnell. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
