This is the second book in the Shooting Stars series and possibly even better than the first!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.
I just didn’t like this book. I didn’t feel the connection between Naomi and Chance. I feel like the romance part of this book was more of an afterthought. I can’t say I really felt all that much for either of these characters. I had no problem with Chance being a music artist that is getting his stuff together since he’s an alcoholic and trying to clean up his image. Naomi being the ex he cheated on probably shouldn’t have been the one he was working with, but whatever. I really just can’t say what it was exactly that turned me off from this story, but it overall just didn’t do it for me. I just didn’t feel the connection between Naomi and Chance. It was superficial at best.
I will give it to Chance for truly trying to clean up his act and letting go of all the crappy things that happened to him in the past. It was nice to see Chance grow up quite a bit and see the error of his ways. It took a while to figure it out, but I liked it nonetheless.
Don’t be so turned off by my two star rating. Falling Star just didn’t do it for me and was a bit of a let down. I had a far easier time reading Rising Star than I did this one. I’m a sucker for a second chance romance, but I didn’t feel the connection. I could see why people would love this book more than I did, but it didn’t meet up to my standards that I look for in a good romance.
‘Falling star’ is the second book in the ‘Shooting stars’ series but you don’t have to read the first book to read this one. However, I did read the first book and I enjoyed it very much, it left me with the feeling that I wanted to read more about the Shooting Stars record label and his people.
‘Falling star’ is a second chance romance story.
Bad boy country singer Chance Colburn and Naomi Mallard share a past. They were once lovers until Chance did something that broke Naomi’s heart. Now, seven years later, Chance needs Naomi’s help as a PR manager to restore his bad reputation. Because years of drinking too much and losing his temper has destroyed a lot. But Chance is now sober and he wants another chance to prove to himself, his fans and Nashville’s music industry that he can still do it. But life isn’t always easy, sometimes your past will not stay in the past. Will Chance be a good guy this time or will Chance breaks Noami’s heart again by falling into his old habits?
This story is a nice read and we get both POV’s. It’s told in the present time but we get enough information to understand the past and to know what happened in there. I don’t know if I would call Chance really a ‘bad’ guy, he’s more a guy who has had a very difficult childhood and that made him unsure and troubled. This book is also more than a romance story, it shows us how hard it is to stop drinking and to stay sober. Noami is an intelligent woman, who’s loyal and caring.
One of the things that I love about this series is the fact that it takes place in Nashville and thus revolved around the country music. I’m very happy that the writer decided to place the series there because it’s a city I don’t know a lot about, so it’s a pleasure discovering it through the books.
