This is the first book I read by this author, and it will not be the last.
The story centers around Becca Gable and Shane Marlow.
Becca is at one of the lowest points in her life , when depression and despair makes her do something totally out of character. Now with a charge against her, losing her job and her fiance, she is trying to pick up the pieces of her life , while dealing with her mistake.
Shane survived his service in Iraq, but not without guilt and nightmares. He is now a K-9 officer at the local courthouse.
When they meet by chance, little did they know that both their lives would change forever.
The plot is engaging, with some whodunit, an unknown stalker , as well as romance. Will they find their HEA as they find the person that “gets them” ?
While the plot is interesting with complex characters, it’s also thought provoking. Mental health, depression and survival guilt are real and need to be addressed . Kudos to the author for that reminder.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Both Becca and Shane have suffered terrible losses and are now trying to move forward with their lives. Through a stroke of fate, these two meet and connect. I found this to be a slow burn romance, but once these two likeable characters get together, the pages sizzled. There is a villain lurking who, for me, was not a surprise but I was curious as to the villain’s motive. And honorable mention to Denver, Shane’s work partner and friend.
I received a free copy from Netgalley. This is my unbiased review.
It didn’t take me long to like both of the main characters. Yes, Becca and Shane had quite the dramatic first meeting. Which leads to following up on their attraction and they find that they have more than just that. I liked that they didn’t jump into bed right away but they do get there. So prepare yourself for a few sex scenes.
I also was quick to wonder what trouble with the law that Becca got involved with. It does come out of course but I like how the author didn’t let you know right away.
I should add that there is another main character even if Denver is in the canine category. Denver does prove himself over and over in the story. He’s good at what he does.
Every girl needs a flamboyant best friend and Marcy fills the bill for Becca. Not only is Marcy colorful but she is also a faithful friend.
Too bad the word faithful can’t be used with Becca’s ex Kirk. He wasn’t faithful to stand by her when everything hit the fan. He was more concerned about how her stupid mistake affected him and his career. A sensitive man? Only to himself. I was so hoping he was the one causing all the painful harassing and stalking. But you will have to read the book to find out who that is for real. Why spoil your fun?
Although there are no real big surprises, the stalker does become bolder. When the stalker does, the author keeps up the tension of wondering where and how they would strike next. That provided some unpredictable moments. Although the twist with her car towards the end was quite a surprise and pretty creative.
Is there an Epilogue you ask? That would be a “yes”. And I liked how it finished things up to a H.E.A.
“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
Becca has had an awful year. She lost her job and fiancé. Now she’s working as a cook at a nursing home. She is trying to get her life back on track. Then she meets a handsome cop and his dog. Shane knows what loss is, he lost half his team to a bomb while in the Army. He’s now a cop with his K-9 partner. They meet after she falls right in front of him. After they start dating, someone keeps sending letters not threatening but scary. Can they both leave the past and move forward?
First time reading this author and it was a really good story. Mystery and sex. The only thing that bothered me was Becca’s attitude about the things that happened to her. I loved Shane and Denver, the dog.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author.(netgalley) We have two people who are trying to forget their past. We meet Becca who had a past mistake and it was a big one I have to admit and she is having a hard time letting it go, that was the part that kind of got tiresome for me the repetition, yes you did yes you made a huge mistake but now it is time to move on and learn from them. Anyhoo she ends up meeting Shane who is also having a hard time letting go of some things from the past, he broke my heart but it was nice reading of these two being just what the other needed, if only someone wasn’t trying to make sure Becca does not forget..
This was one book that really intrigued me. Especially since the two main characters in the book Becca and Shane are both damaged in one way or another. It was interesting reading about both of them and also in a way watching their chemistry develop over time. This book was the first of Sharon’s that I have ever read and after reading it I will be reading more of her work as well. It was a remarkable read that you need to read for yourself in order to understand what I mean.
In this story about 2 people who are each suffering thier own type of loss. The author has written the story in a way that hooks you and keeps you until the very end. All the characters are interesting and loveable especially Denver the K9 officer. The plot has suspense, mystery, danger, chemistry and romance. It is well written and worth reading. I look forward to reading more from this author. I received this book from eBook Discovery and I voluntarily give this review.
Falling into Right by Sharon Kay
Redemption County #2
Another wonderful book in this delightful series set in Redemption County, Illinois!
Becca Gable did something that changed her life forever. Unable to work in the field she trained for she has taken up a new job way under her skill set, paid the fine required by the court and is moving on to the best of her ability. As she is leaving the courthouse she slips, falls and lands at the feet of Shane Marlow and his K-9 partner, Denver. Shane is a hunk and a half, a war hero, a cop, a hottie and all around nice guy with the whole alpha thing going on that was splendid to read about and for Becca to experience. Becca is a sweetie, good friend, beautiful, open and honest with an openness and charm that was fun to read about and for Shane to experience. Shane has a bit of PTSD and Becca is dealing with a bad year and the fallout from what she has experienced – the two are there for one another, accepting of each other and feel stronger together.
The two should not meet again after seeing one another in the courthouse but when Shane shows up on her doorstep with Denver to return something she dropped things change…a bit…and then change more when they serendipitously meet again at his sister’s bar. Well, one date leads to another and another and boy do the two get along well together socially, emotionally and sensually (fanning myself here thinking about one scene in particular). Their relationship flows easily and it all feels “real” to me. Of course Becca has an evil stalker bothering her that has to eventually be dealt with and I had a pretty good idea who it was but all in all this was a book I could not put down once I started reading. I would love to have Becca and Shane as friends and live in their town. I REALLY liked this story and only bumped it down a bit in my rating because of the predictableness of who the stalker was.
Thank you to the author who bequeathed an ARC of this book to me through NetGalley – This is my honest review.
4.5 Stars
I’ve gone and done it again…found a great series and missed the first book! That will soon be rectified though.
Rebecca has faced a lot in the 12 months. She has lost 2 babies, lost her mother and been dumped by her fiancee when she dared to tarnish HIS public image! She buckled under the stress and did something that she would never have normally done. She has paid her debt to society, she lost her accounting job and her fiancee but fate…or a stalker doesn’t believe she has paid enough yet.
Shane is seen by most residents of his home town as a hero but he just sees himself as a survivor. He wants to get on with his job with his K9 partner and not live in the limelight. But this guy couldn’t walk away from anyone in danger..or a woman who almost face plants right beside him!
They should be all wrong for each other, after Becca’s law-breaking and Shane’s upright job in law enforcement but love doesn’t fall the rules!
Egad this was good! Becca and Shane are dealing with depression, loss and anxiety in their own ways. Denver is a very silent but very large part of the story and he just captures your heart with all his doggie charm. The fact that he manager to get a bite out the bad guy just added to his charm! His fellow cops and his family all encase Becca in their warmth and love and I loved that their was no condemnation of her past.
The villain of the piece is particularly odious and creepy and I’d have gladly gone to jail for sluggin the chump! Fab read!
