He knows he ought to forget her… starts to realize he must make Eloise his. The only question is how.
Eloise loves her new position. But William Townsbridge’s arrival threatens everything, from her principles to her very heart. Falling for her employer’s son would be monumentally stupid. This was a lovely, quick, short (a couple of hours) read that is entertaining and cheerful. I loved the characters, but because it is a novella, I didn’t get to know them as well as I would have liked – nor was the plot as well developed for that same reason
William Townsbridge, the third son of a Viscount, has just returned home after working in Lisbon for the last year. He’s delighted to return to his wonderful, loving family, but isn’t looking forward to his mother’s matchmaking. What he doesn’t expect is to be served the most delicious meal he’s ever tasted. Each bite melts on his tongue and bursts into the most amazing flavors. His mother’s new cook must be a culinary genius.
Eloise Lamont learned her chef skills at her grandfather’s knee – beginning when she was just a very young child. She absolutely loved every minute of it and voraciously acquired more and more knowledge. When she was ready to make her own way in the world, she had a really hard time getting anybody to take such a young person seriously in her native France, so she headed to England and landed a job cooking for the Townsbridge family. She has come to love them all and they have made her feel really welcome since she’s been there.
When William sneaks down to the kitchen one night for a snack, he is shocked to see a beautiful young woman already there. It turns out that the cook he expected to be older and plump is actually young and very beautiful. OOPS!
William and Eloise are attracted to each other, but they know neither of them can act on that attraction. So, what can they do when they come to like each other more and more? You’ll just have to read this lovely novella to if they manage to have their HEA – and if they do – how?
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Falling for mr. Townsbridge by Sophie Barnes is a very well written novella. I find with novellas they leave me wanting more but with this story is was perfectly wrapped up in a neat little package. An excellent, beautiful cook and a gentleman’s third son, From different classes destined for failure. They navigate the social issues in different ways trying to understand and cope how they are feeling. with a little help from his wonderful loving family they just might get their HEA. It’s a sweet well written story i definitely recommend reading.
This was a fast-paced, swoon-worthy read, that I found I did not want to put down! The story was original and exciting with characters that were realistic and likable. It is everything you could want in a delightful stroll through the pages of a historical romance and more!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.

This is the third book in the Townsbridge’s and in this book William returns from Portugal. He soon finds himself smitten with Eloise, his mother’s cook. Ellie is french and has an aristocratic heritage but her family has fallen on hard times. Hard times forced her to find work and her love of cooking led her to the Townsbridge family. The chemistry between William and Ellie is front and center but they continue to fight it. This was really a novella as I easily read it in a couple of hours. Are they able to overcome social expectations of their time. A short read that I read as a free copy and voluntarily chose to review.
Falling for Mr. Townsbridge by Sophie Barnes is book Three in The Townsbridges Series. This is the story of Eloise Lamont and William Townsbridge. I have read the previous books, which did add to my enjoyment of this one. I do feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so. Eloise learned to cook from her grandfather and now she has a job as the new cook with the Townsbridge family. Which they have been very nice to her and she has been enjoying her position. But then she meets William who is the son of this prominent family and her attraction to him is instant. William has returned home after being away and is happy to be back with the family. Although he isn’t so excited about the thought of his mother doing some matchmaking to get him a wife. But then he meets the new cook and he can’t get her out of his mind. Enjoyed their story and hope to read more from this author.
As much as William had dreaded coming home, it seemed the new cook his mother had hired was amazing, with all the delectable dishes and the desserts! Oh my, heaven. When he mentioned to his mother that he should lock Mrs. Lamont, the cook away, his sister could only suggest she meet her.
What he did not expect was the beautiful feisty Eloise who was not the image of the cook he had imagined!
To say the least they form an attraction that is magnetic and the attachment begins! But is there any hope for these two of different classes?
I loved these two and watching as they came together and the journey it took with several twists and turns was wonderful. Love anything that Sophie Barnes pens and this is no exception! Prepare to sit back and enjoy!
Sweet novella that leaves you hungry for the next story from this author!
Touching novella in which the Hero displays just a touch of “being the rogue” in trying to win over his family’s new French cook, “Mrs.” Lamont. Despite her attraction to William Townsbridge, Eloise successfully thwarts his attempts to compromise her. The back and forth play of the story holds the readers’ interest, and the way the Hero must come to terms with his feelings is quite satisfying. A good moral tone is set by the heroine.
I am voluntarily writing a review. I received an early copy of the book.
The third book in The Townsbridges series a well written regency story that held my interest until the end. William Townsbridge returns from Portugal and meets Eloise Lamont, the new cook, I enjoyed seeing this story come together. This is the first book in this series that I have read, but I see I have bought one, I will be buying the other one. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Novellas are hard and, in general, I find them to be hit or miss because it is hard to develop a realistic relationship with so few words. If all you want is a sweet, charming romance to occupy yourself with for a few hours, this is a great fit. William and Eloise are lovely as the entire Townsbridge family has been. Eloise had a good backstory with her tragic loss of her connection to the French aristocracy. William is obviously looking to find his place in the world and his family and his attachment to Eloise fits with that far better than he realizes. However, as is common with novellas, the pace of it was rushed so it was hard to feel invested in them. If you read it accepting the story for the limitations that come with the word count, you will certainly enjoy it.
This is a sweet short story about finding love in unlikely places. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am excited to discover more of Sophie Barnes’ work. I received a review copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review
If you have a hankering for a quick, romantic, opposite social classes attract, regency era read featuring a sassy, talented French born chef heroine and the younger son of an English Aristocrat family, you might fall for this romance in a big way, folks. With only one intimate scene near the end, this novella is heavy on the notion of romance between this unlikely pair as their at first glance, soul mate attraction would not be denied.
At only 105 pages, I breezed right through it in one sitting. Being the first and only book of the series, it did not matter that I had not already met any of the sub-characters, who obviously were in previous books. Love is proven here it conquers all once social bias and knuckleheaded thinking is knocked out of the way. I enjoyed the fact when push came to shove this main couple had support when it counted the most.
Title: Falling for Mr. Townsbridge, Series: The Townbridges (Book 3), Author: Sophie Barnes, Pages: 105, stand-alone but part of a series, French heroine whose a chef, only one intimate sex scene, rich but has a job aristocrat hero, conflicted social circumstances, romance safe for me.
Book 1 – When Love Leads to Scandal
Book 2 – Lady Abigail’s Perfect Match
Book 3 – Falling for Mr. Townsbridge

Oh, I love a quandary!
And this one is a dozy, in this tasty novella.
William is back in England and gets his first taste of the delicious treats and meals the family’s new cook is creating. Eloise is the cook and in the family employ. William is honorable. See? Quandary.
But what sets this book apart is the tidbits of confections and the eloquent food descriptions. Its very fitting with the connection William is finding with Eloise.
Recommend. But be prepared to go find a snack while reading.
This was a forbidden love romance between William Townsbridge, the son of a Viscount and his family’s new cook Mrs. Lamont. Sparks fly at their first meeting, but with their social differences Eloise doesn’t want to lose her position nor accept a new position as his mistress. William can’t see that when he offers her a place in his new house, but not as his wife. Like his sister Athena I was angry with him for dangling Eloise’s dreams in front her in return for being his mistress. I wonder if he realizes no one respectable would have gone to her cooking school. I laughed at William and Eloise’s antics in the kitchen and was intrigued by his headstrong sisters that his mother is trying to push into marriage.
The newest in the Townsbridge’s by Sophie Barnes is sure to keep you up most of the day! I give Falling for Mr. Townsbridge 4 full steeping teacups! Mr. William Townsbridge has recently returned home from his travels and he sits down to a most delicious meal with his family, his mouth can’t believe what wonders fill it and then the delicious pastry to follow just takes him away. He learns his parents have a new cook, Mrs. Lamont. At dinner, his sister Athena suggests he meet Mr. Lamont and he shrugs it off until that evening after everyone has retired. He heads to the kitchen expecting to find an older lady and some delicious pastries, instead, he finds the most attractive young woman and takes his breath away. Mrs. Lamont or Eloise is absolutely shocked to find the youngest Towsbridge man standing before her, she knew had arrived home but was not expecting him to appear in her kitchen or at least she laid claim on it but it was, in fact, his kitchen. The two are both attracted to one another but Eloise knows she can’t ever hope to marry a nobleman. She puts the idea out of her head and tries to go about her days… but she can’t help thinking about him nor can she seem to not bump into him.
William is also very taken by Eloise and despite his brother’s advice to stay away from her, he can’t seem to help himself. When Mrs. Lamont’s grandfather becomes deathly ill, he helps her gain a carriage and head home but in that time he purchases a house with the help of his parents and his intent is to help Mrs. Lamont reach her dream and open her culinary school. But he also asks something else of her and this causes her world to turn upside down and her heart to shatter…
Can these two defy society and make a life for themselves? Or must they go on only dreaming of the one they truly love for the rest of their lives?
This is such a lovely read, I really enjoyed Williams’ arc, he grew a lot from the beginning of the tale and Eloise is such a strong, courageous young woman and she isn’t going to use what is at her hands to use in order to gain a place and society and a spot in a man’s bed. No, instead she holds strong and is quite happy with her state in life. Barnes did a phenomenal job with this story, the plot keeps one turning the pages and rooting for the romance blossoming. The only thing I would say is the romance went too fast, I felt William fell for Eloise a tad too quick and also there wasn’t enough tension between the two. I love that there is a class difference between the two, I think it’s great seeing more authors writing about this because I’m sure these romances and ultimately marriages did occur, yes at a cost, but they most likely did occur and it’s wonderful to see more books written about these romances and the struggles they must overcome. This is definitely a book you will want to add to your summer TBR!
Eloise is happy with her life, she works hard but at a job she loves. She creates beautiful meals for her employers, and has freedom and ownership of it. William is finally home after working abroad, he could never guess that he would be drawn to Eloise and her feisty nature. Theirs is an instant connection, but they both fight it! It takes almost losing her to make William see he can’t live without her. Grab a copy of this sweet story.
William Townsbridge has arrived attthe home of his parents, Viscount and Viscountess Roxley. He has been traveling for some time and it’s nice to be home being with his sisters and brothers. As they welcome him home, he enjoys tea and some pastries that are delicious. His mother tells him that they have hired a new cook and her food is outstanding. She is French and her name is Mrs. Eloise Lamont. After enjoying a yummy dinner, he heads to the kitchen to congratulate her. He is surprised to find a lovely young woman and unmarried. He really wants to get to know her better but realizes that she is beneath his social standing.
William and Eloise go on a picnic with his sister and he enjoys getting to know Eloise and her dreams of opening a culinary school. With that in mind, he asks his father to help him purchase a house. Later he shows it to Eloise telling her the house is for her dream school and implies that they would live together there. She is outraged and quits. What will he do now? His family is furious and he realizes he loves this young woman very much. He needs to find her and hope to convince her to return and he will not impose himself on her. But, what about their differences on the social ladder? If he marries her, how can they be accepted?
I have given away a bit here, but not all. This is a sweet story and the descriptions of the foods that Eloise prepares made me want to drool. I love French food so I was even more intrigued. Sophie Barnes has done it again. I love her books. Don’t miss this one.

When William Townsbridge returns from Portugal and meets Eloise Lamont, the new cook his mother has hired, he’s instantly smitten. The only problem of course is that she’s a servant – completely off limits for a gentleman with an ounce of honour. But as they become better acquainted, William starts to realize he must make Eloise his. Eloise loves her new position. But William Townsbridge’s arrival threatens everything, from her principles to her very heart. Falling for her employer’s son would be monumentally stupid.
This is the third novella in the series & is third son William’s story, another well written quick read which I read in a sitting. Another well written book that I wished had been longer as I would have liked to have learned more about Eloise & at times it felt a bit rushed, however it drew me in from the start & I thoroughly enjoyed it
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
What a quick, funny fast read. I loved it… I don’t usually like short stories but this one keeps you reading. The Characters are perfect, William Townsbridge is the third son of a Viscount and has just returned from Lisbon after a year. He is looking forward to being home seeing his family and friends.
After getting home he becomes surprised by his father, Lord Roxley. Neither have ever been over come by food it was just a necessity something one must do. Now he father can’t wait for the tea and snacks. His family has a new cook, one Mrs. Lamont who they tell him is simply wonderful.
After just one bite he is in love, the food is divine. His father and sister let him know everything she cooks is just as wonderful. He knows something is up when his sister tells him he should meet her and both his parents don’t want him too. Ah tell any man they shouldn’t do something and that’s the first thing they will do. William waits till everyone is upstairs before heading to the kitchen to find out what they don’t want him to know. He is shocked when he meets her. She is petite, with dark curls, piercing blue eyes and young. He finds she is fun to tease and has a quick wit. She is also an employee of this parents he should not be going to market with her, talking with her and thinking about her all the time.
Elosie Lamont is someone he can’t keep meeting and talking with.
He goes to see his brothers, and they question him about why he is so distracted.
When he finally tells them both older brothers tell him to stop whatever he is thinking and stay
busy doing things with others. He can’t have her and should not even be thinking about her.
AH but the heart whats what the heart want.
This fun story has both William and Elosie knowing where the lines are drawn but neither can
keep the attention from growing.
Do get a copy of this fun book, to find out what happens when a titled gentleman and a servant meet. Their is laughter, sadness, surprises and secrets. Little sister is a hoot and you will love her.
Both say things without thinking them thru and hurt the other. Will they find a way for a happy ever after.. grab a cup of coffee and this book and have a fun break..
I received and ARC from the author and want to thank her
I am giving this review voluntarily .
