He was the worst teacher I ever had. I was the worst student he ever taught.ROXIE RAMBLINGI can’t believe I’m standing on the steps of Bracken Middle School again.Ten years ago, this place was my worst nightmare, no thanks to Jack “McSlutbag” Slater, the teacher who blocked my shot at a full basketball scholarship. But time heals many wounds, and I’m only a few months away from earning my … away from earning my undergrad in education, despite the hell Slater once put me through.
Now I’m the teacher. I’ll help kids rather than destroy them. If I can just get through this semester without too many fouls, I’ll be fine.
But it’s not fine. Because when I go to meet my new supervisor, McSlutbag’s sitting behind the desk, looking like a gorgeous, vengeful god ready to mete out punishment for slights—some real, most perceived—committed by the hellion I used to be.
Worse? The cold hatred I once felt for him has turned hot enough to set my drawers on fire.
I want him. In a bad way.
So long, dream internship. Hello, sexy nemesis.
McSlutbag’s about to meet his match. Again.

Kendall Day will be one of my go to authors. Mr. Slater and Roxie with an ie are my new favorite characters. I laughed and cried and cheered for ALL the people in this book. FANFREAKINTASTIC!!
I’m a HUGE Kendall Gray fan, so when I found out she was releasing a rom-com under the pen name Kendall Day I jumped at the chance to read it. And I wasn’t let down. Once again this author reminded me why I ADORE her works!
Falling For Mr Slater was different from her past books, but just as fabulous. I was hooked from the start. A story about a teacher and his new teaching assistant who happens to be the girl who ruined his life.
I loved the Mr Slater and Roxie with an ie storyline. I found myself laughing so hard at times. The storyline quirky and different but I ADORED the characters. Falling for Mr Slater had the perfect amount of humor, romance, and dirty talk. I highly recommend this book!!!
*I voluntarily read an advance copy from the author. This is my honest review.*
Sometimes in life there are people that you just don’t gel with. For Roxie Rambling, that person was Jack Slater, her former teacher and in her eyes, the reason she lost out on getting a scholarship for playing basketball after being singled out and picked on by him when he was her teacher. Every teacher has a student that is their worst nightmare. For Jack Slater, that student was middle schooler Roxie Rambling, a smart mouthed troublemaker who made his life miserable for years after she was out of his life.
Fast forward a few years and Roxie has made something of herself against all odds. She’s due to graduate soon with her teaching degree and only has to gain some classroom experience as a student teacher to make her dreams a reality. The only problem? Her dream becomes a nightmare when she is paired up with her old nemesis “McSlutbag” Slater who she’s pretty sure will NEVER help her to achieve her dream.
This book had me wanting to go back to school even if it was just a fly on the wall. I wish I could hang with the teachers from the story. And yes, I fell for Mr. Slater too. So not your average teacher and (ex) student book, this was so much more.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review.
This job can suck. After teaching eighth grad gifted language arts for years, I’m being moved to remedial sixth grade science. New team. New subject. New everything. Oh and did I mention science now includes sex ed? Some of these kids-like that hellion Roxie Rambling, who a decade later still hold the title of My Worst Student Ever-probably know more about sex than me, and I’m an expert on the subject. To add insult to injury, I’ve been assigned an intern from the local college. I need to focus on winning Teacher of the Year, not waste my charm, wit, and ruggedly handsome looks on coddling some bimbo playing teacher. Just when it can’t possibly get worse, a twenty-one-year-old, hot-as-hell Roxie Rambling darkens my door, wearing a red mini skirt, four inch heels, and an ID that reads “Student Teacher”. So long Teacher of the Year. Hello, trouble – in the classroom and in my pants.
I love this book and in case you do not know this is Kendall Grey writing as Kendall Day. I have read almost all of her books and was so excited to get my hands on a teacher/student romance. Well I am calling it that since she was his former student and is still in college. Mr. Slater has huge plans for this year and the top priority is winning Teacher of the Year. He loves his advance eighth grade classes but a change in principles and some vindictive other teachers and he find himself in hell. He is changed to sixth grade science and has a student teacher. The one and only Roxie with and ie Rambling. His worst student ever and he wants nothing to do with her being his student teacher. Let the fun begin. I loved watching these two develop a relationship that Mr. Slater wants nothing to do with and after the first day of school, a disruptive student, a punishment that isn’t what he thinks it should be he is officially losing it. I loved how Roxie brought out a different side of him and how one day her way of teaching finally taught him something and he realized that maybe just maybe he has been doing this wrong for years. This is story that you don’t want to miss. There are characters you will love. Some you won’t and it all leads to some shocking and heart melting moments. Oh and get ready to fall for Savage too. You will see who he is when you read this book. This is one you do not want to miss.
It’s been a while since we heard from Kendall Grey and now we know why: She was off in a hyperbaric chamber, bathed in grow lights, becoming something new. That something? Is KENDALL DAY. New pen name, new stories, new truths to be told. Seriously, the only difference you’ll find in Kendall Day’s writing and Kendall Grey’s writing is a little less smut, or erotica as some folks prefer to call it. Falling for Mr. Slater is a romcom, first and foremost, with a little hot sex to make you sweat, and a lot of hard truths thrown in to make you think.
Mr. Jack Slater is an experienced teacher of gifted eighth graders. He teaches English to classes of motivated, over-achievers and is part of the “in” crowd at Bracken Middle School. After a summer spent with his best friend and fellow teacher Savage, banging beach bunnies and drinking themselves into a constant stupor in California, Slater learns that things are going to change. A new principal, a few budget cuts, and the loss of a couple of teachers changes everything and Slater is suddenly teaching science to a bunch of sixth graders who could not give a shit about anything the guy at the front of the room has to say. Slater’s even less happy about his circumstances when he finds out that the first subject he’ll be teaching that year is sex-ed. And that he’s going to have a student teacher to supervise. Things really can’t get any worse, can they?
Well . . .
The student teacher turns out to be Roxie-with-an-i-e Rambling. The worst student Slater’s ever had in a classroom, or in his life in general. She coined the name McSlutbag, left him broken and damaged in more ways than one, and she did it all just for spite! Roxie is the last person Slater wants to spend the school year with, but he’s really got no choic. And he needs the help, too. It’s clearly not going to be a banner year, but Slater keeps his eyes on the prize despite all adversity: he intends to be Teacher of the Year this year.
Not surprisingly, Roxie remembers Jack Slater as “McSlutbag,” and the worst teacher she ever encountered. She barely survived middle school and high school because of how he treated her, and she almost didn’t go to college for the same reasons. It took her years to get over McSlutbag’s insults, derision, and discouragement, and she’s not about to let him stop her again!
Obviously, sparks are going to fly between the hot, sexy teacher and the beautiful, tempting, basketball-star student. But questions remain, the biggest one being this:
Can you get over your past, learn new things, grow and change and fall in love, forgive and forget, survive in a sea of assholes, and succeed in ways you never thought possible, all by just listening, paying attention, and hearing other people’s ideas?
Read Falling for Mr. Slater when it’s released. You won’t be disappointed. Kendall Day is as good a writer as you’ll ever find, and she’s still got that sharp-edged, laser vision that hones in on the problem without making you feel like she’s beating you with a hammer to make her point. She’s still a master of the snort-laugh, and she’s got descriptive skills like no one else; “…leaving Kuntz standing like the giant hemorrhoid he is in this rectum of a hallway.” YASSSS!
Falling for Mr. Slater is great fun, full of heart and laughs and real feelings, all mixed in with some commentary on the education system that you need to read, and the kind of angsty back-and-forthing that makes a great romance story, the kind of crazy humor that will have you spitting your margarita all over your e-reader (so be careful), and the kind of fabulous writing and satisfying storytelling you can expect from Kendall Day.
I am a teacher by profession. I am not big on reading student/teacher romance books. I just have a hard time with that tabooish subject matter. That being said, when I saw Kendall Day (a.k.a Kendall Grey) was writing a romantic comedy I made an exception. I knew without a shadow of doubt I would be reading Falling for Mr. Slater. I am ecstatic that I did. #sweetsexyserendipty
There is so much to love about this book. My favorite aspect is definitely the main characters. Roxie-with-an-ie Rambling and Mr. Jack Slater are impossible to dislike. They are both hurting and flawed individuals. The unique thing about their relationship is they have caused each other pain in life and they must be the ones to heal those wounds they have have inflicted. Roxie and Jack are both risk takers with a strong resolve to stick to their convictions. The changes they affect in each other and those who surround them, be it teachers or students, are marvelous to behold.
They way that Roxie and Slater work through their past and present issues is reminiscent of the Tilt-a-Whirl ride at an amusement park. The highs brought on by the humorous moments are only rivaled by the lows felt when hope heads south and hibernates reluctant to remain on the ride for one more torturous moment.
I enjoyed the way Kendall Day included learning goals and assessments with each chapter. They kept me interested and laughing with each new one. Her use of the pound sign is quite funny and adds another dimension to this romance. Make no mistake, Falling for Mr. Slater is truly a romance. Love rules the hearts and minds of Roxie and Jack almost from the instant of reconnection. Their actions and transformations are attributable only to Love and its magical powers. Ms. Day has definitely shown her readers and much softer side than she normally displays. However, she has not lost her sexy edge. She is still a master at making reader chuckle and smile all along the journey through a book.
