From New York Times bestselling author Monica Murphy comes an angsty new adult romance about the popular quarterback and the smart girl who brings him to his knees. Jake Callahan. Prince of the popular crowd. My mortal enemy.Gorgeous. All the girls want him.Quarterback. All the boys want to be his friend. He’s the most popular boy in the senior class. And he hates me.Or so I … boy in the senior class.
And he hates me.
Or so I thought.
What I mistook for hatred turns out to be…interest. There’s that thin line, right? It makes me crazy. I can’t stand it. Attraction, chemistry, whatever it is, I also can’t resist it.
And neither can he.
Together, we make no sense. The odds are against us. His friends definitely don’t approve. I’m not a part of their crowd. Not one of the cool kids. I don’t fit in, or so they say.
But that doesn’t stop him from falling for me.
And it won’t stop me from fighting for him.

This is Jake and Hannah’s story, the second book in The Callahans series, a high school sports romance story, where the QB and the smart quiet girl have their story. He feels like carrying the world on his shoulders, while the beautiful girl is completely out of his radar catches his attention and it’s a touchdown. This can be read as a standalone. Brilliant story you don’t want to miss.
And my love for Monica Murphy continues as I make it through the Callahan series!
I discovered Monica from receiving an arc for her first book of the College Years series, which I read & enjoyed – Then realised it was a sequel series to this series! So have gone back & am loving the Callahans!
The Callahans #2 follows Jake Callahan, the son of Drew Callahan & the popular quarterback finding his way in senior year. Everyone almost worships him & wants anything/everything from him, except one girl; Hannah.
“She was beautifully complicated and terrifyingly simple, in a world that had no idea how to love her.”
Hannah is the book & art nerd. She is an excellent painter & enjoys a quiet corner with a good fantasy book, over being the centre of attention. So is confused when the most popular boy in school starts talking to her & asks if she wants to wear his jersey. She promptly pushes him away & wants nothing to do with him. But Jake is persistent & slowly but surely, makes his way into her life. He won’t give up on getting to know the quiet cute girl, & Hannah finds herself giving in to the quarterback more than she should.
Their relationship definitely started with banter, which turned into friends then lovers. I enjoyed watching Jake push Hannah to her full potential, as well as Jake making sure Hannah knew she was more than just a wallflower.
The ending was a bit abrupt. I wish there was an extended epilogue as I would love to see how their future ends up considering this book only covers their senior year. This probably was my least favourite book so far in the Callahan / College Year series but I still enjoyed it! Everyone loves a romance story about the popular boy falling for the nerdy girl afterall.
All in all, 4/5 stars with 2/5 steam.
This story is everything that I adore in a YA read. High school romances are some of my favorites and this one rates right up there.
I absolutely adore troubled characters. Despite Jake’s fairy tale upbringing, he is struggling with some issues. Along comes Hannah who is not going to fall for any of his charms or bullsh*t.
The two of them work so well.
The jock that falls for the girl that doesn’t run in his social circle. One of my favorite story lines.
It brings me back to the days of first love and all that lust that you feel as a teenager and I was hooked on this. There is some drama, mean kids and swoony romance. <3 <3
Jake Callahan is following in his dad’s footsteps. He is the star quarterback at his high school, he is popular, he is gorgeous, and he is expected to carry on his dad’s legacy. And now he is interested in a quiet, smart, and not popular girl. Hannah is beautiful in her own right and capture’s Jake’s attention. But these two do not start out head over heels, not even friends, or so that is what she thinks. Just like his parents, these two will have to fight for each other and their relationship. They must decide what is more important, their happiness or what other people think?
I read this in one sitting and I really enjoyed it!
Monica Murphy writes young adult high school drama, cliques, friendships, opposites attract trope to perfection, and that chemistry between Jake and Hannah is beyond hot! Murphy definitely brings in a great take on this genre and it’s just so well written.
The point of views told the story in a unique way that you really had the feel for the characters and all the outside pressures that are trying to break them apart.
This was a great romance and love story!
I cannot wait for the next installment. I just can’t get enough of this series.
We have two people from opposite crowds and background: Hannah Walsh who likes to keep to herself, quiet, and has a small close knit of friends and Jacob “Jake” Callahan star football player hottie and most popular boy in the school. This read was full of moments that had my heart beating for more. The idea that someone like Jake would be interested in Hannah had her questioning his motives especially after their first encounter. Is it all a game?
Something about Hannah is constantly intriguing Jake and as he is getting to know her she is someone he is not used to being around. A refreshing feeling which in turns begins changing his plans. Hannah knows she is not up to par with his crowd; however, as they grow closer together and the chemistry and feelings are starting to run deep…the question is whether they are willing to take the risks for more once the truth comes out?
This was such a sweet opposite attract story. Also getting to know more of the Callahans’ has you wanting more and itching for the next book in the series stat!
I’m a HUGE fan of Monica Murphy and especially this series. Just like the first book, I was pulled right into the story of Hannah and Jake from the very start.
This book epitomizes the concept of opposites attract although maybe not in the beginning. Jake seems to have it all…he’s the star quarterback, he’s rich, and he’s popular. Yet, he feels like all this is getting old. When his friends advise him to find a new girl…he gives it some thought. Somewhat daring him to ask the pretty redhead, Hannah, to wear his jersey, he reluctantly agrees. Much to his surprise, she turns him down flat. No one has ever done that before!
“He’s a god among us mortals, and I’m sure we’re supposed to bow at his feet and do what he requests, no questions asked. Well, screw that. I trust no one. I certainly don’t trust some pretty jock who was dared by his friends to ask me to wear his jersey.” ~Hannah~
At pretty much every interaction between them after that is full of tension until one night changes that. Two people who have never run in the same circles begin to see things in each other they never expected.
Instead of jumping into a relationship quickly, they form a friendship. Granted, it is one with undercurrents full of sizzling chemistry and sexual tension…Murphy took her time building trust between them. Each of them have reasons not to trust each other. Jake runs with the popular crowd who haven’t always been nice to others. Jake always feels like girls have an ulterior motive where he is concerned.
Hannah is not only independent, but she tries to not judge people. She notices Jake’s continued anger and bad temper, but she tries to understand him and his struggles. She knows more than anyone that just because someone is popular and rich doesn’t mean they don’t have their own personal issues.
Jake appreciates her. She likes him for who he is as a person. She doesn’t demand his time or attention. His popularity doesn’t matter at all to her. She just lets him be who he is and nothing more.
I enjoyed seeing how they each influenced one another. Hannah mellows Jake out and attempts to get him to think before making rash decisions he might regret. He gives her a confidence in herself that she didn’t have before.
I have always been a fan of Monica Murphy’s, and she was one of the first NA writers I read. I just LOVE how she has built the Callahan family and their stories they share with me. Even though I know Fable and Drew got their HEA, I like seeing their chapters hidden in their children’s stories. Thank you, Monica Murphy, for that!
Not only am I looking forward to Ava’s story, but I’m also hoping we might get a book about Diego and Caleb!
4.5 stars
Another great book from Monica Murphy! I have been looking forward to this one for awhile and was definitely not disappointed. It was sweet, fun and very entertaining. I couldn’t put it down once I started.
The second book in the Callahans series and I am more in love with this family than ever. You could read this as a standalone but why would you they are so good and you get the added bonus of more Drew and Fable.
This story focuses on Jake the star quarterback and Hannah the quiet girl nobody notices. Fair warning Jake is not the easiest guy to like. From the start he’s an entitled jerk who expects everyone to fall at his feet. I loved Hannah, they do say to watch out for the quiet ones and Jake has met his match. When she puts him in his place I was giggling and could imagine so well the disinterested looks she gives him. I enjoyed the slow pace of their romance and the way they change each other. Of course there is the usual teenage drama within their circle of friends which will play out in future books. He’s not one of the Callahans but I am particularly interested in seeing where Diego’s story is going to go as he is in a bit of mess of his own making.
Falling For Her is my first time read from the author and will definitely be not my last. This is second book in the series, but I’m encouraging you to read the first book for maximum reading enjoyment. But since this is my first read, I didn’t have any problem following the story line so I guess this could be read as a standalone. This is a sports romance with a bit of enemies-to-lovers trope.
Jake and Hannah belongs in different social circle – he’s a jock, she’s a nerd; he’s rich, she’s poor. We’ve seen and read this kind before but it’s one of my favorite kind. I like Hannah because she’s not a typical pushover heroine and Jake surprisingly enough is not your typical jock. What I liked about this book is that it’s not your usual angsty, emotional story. It’s a light, sexy, slow burn romance that in my opinion best suited it to bring out the development of its characters and love story. Overall, I loved it and will definitely look out for more work of this author.
Monica Murphy is the queen of Y/A. She really knows how to capture my attention and her books are always filled with delicious drama that has me flipping those pages so fast one after the other.
Jake and Hannah were the perfect High School kind of book I needed and I definitely got. You have, of course, the popular boy who is the star of his football team and then you have, of course, the quiet and shy girl who always wants to be left alone and doesn’t care for the popularity. She will do anything to avoid having any and all kinds of attention on herself.
But what happens when Jake approaches Hannah and actually seeks a friendship with her? Their worlds obviously collide since they’re very, very different with totally different kinds of cliques. But their dynamic together was very cute and adorable. I absolutely adore reading Y/A because it gives all those vibes that I didn’t get to live in H.S. I guess I have to say that my high school years weren’t like the books make them seem. But not everyone has the boring high school experience. Some people actually do have these kinds of lives, which I think is cool.
Jake and Hannah are definitely the cutest couple I’ve read in a while. Monica Murphy knows how to bring out the teenager within me 🙂
Omg i absolutely loved it .thechemistry between them is soo cute. I laughed , cried and it get real and amazing with each page i kept turning down.
Finished this bookin one go and i tell you need to read this book.
Its really ahmazing i like Hanna sweet shy girl.
Thank you valentine pr for providing me this book in exchange of honest review.
The QB, the popular guy, the hottest guy~ Jake Callahan. Hannah not part of any clique, smart, artsy keeps to herself. They have been going to school for years never did he notice her….until he does. Like his father he has fallen for the most unlikely girl and falling hard. Their romance is everything you would want out of an angsty high school romance. Filled with drama, passion and Alfa posturing, Monica has given us an amazing second generation romance that will definitely follow in their parents romantic footsteps to happily every after!
The popular quarterback + the secretly sassy girl who is more than happy to exist below the radar. If you think this sounds like the formula to an amazingly angsty and sweet mature YA romance, then you’d be right.
Monica Murphy takes us back to The Callahan’s world and feeds us a perfectly crafted dish of high school angst and romance. Jake and Hannah shouldn’t fit so perfectly, but they do. She is the calm to his raging storm. He brings her out of her bubble. They both make each other beyond happy. Reading them together and going along on the ride of them falling in love was as sweet and it was rocky. Honestly, reading this book was a rollercoaster of emotions, period. Our hero makes some rash decisions along the way, and I was just HOPING he would grow.
There are other characters that did not want to see these two happy, but honestly it was all just teenagers learning and growing. I love that Monica makes you care about the side characters as much as the mains. It makes it easier to invest in the world and actually feel for all of the characters. I also love how this author truly adds so many layers to the high school romance. Like these characters aren’t just falling in love, they are dealing with real issues and struggles WHILE falling in love. It makes it feel more relatable.
I LOVE angsty high school romance, but holy crap Falling for Her had me stressed out waiting for the other shoe to drop. I think I was possibly as stressed as the heroine, Hannah. All that said I can finally breath a sigh of relief, because I’m finished reading, and I am so happy with how things went, and even happier about where things are going in this next book. It’s going to be AMAZING!
Monica Murphy writes these stories that connect with you on such a deeper level. She continues to astound me with her writing ability and should be an one-click author for every romance reader!!
Jake and Hannah are a love story that is totally unexpected and has so many issues and obstacles. Together they must manage to make their worlds mesh or go their separate ways. One click this book today and find out!!
Fantastic
I Loved this story,it really Wowed me…I don’t usually read many High school books, don’t ask me why they are just not my go to reads..But Falling for Her by Monica Murphy captured my attention right from the very beginning.
I Adore Jake and Hannah, they are from opposite ends of the spectrum in almost every way Socially, financially, academically. He’s a Jock ,she is a nerd, his family is rich ,hers is poor etc But they are drawn to one another like magnets, they compliment eachother and it works Hannah sees Jake for who he is and not just the star Quarterback and Jake sees Hannah more than just a nerd everyone says shes a loser but to Jake she becomes everything.
Monica’s writing was perfect and took me back to High school were everything was a drama and there is plenty of drama in this book from Jake and Hannah’s romance to Jakes circle of friends and enemies there is plenty of events happening to chew on…I couldn’t get enough.
This is an excellent book which I thoroughly enjoyed and I highly recommend it.
I love one week girlfriend series and reading this one was amazing. Jake was one of a kind and although there were times where I didn’t understand his anger until it was explained he annoyed me a teeeny bit. Other than that I thought his and Hanna’s story felt unique and cute. It was such a light read I enjoyed myself while reading it. I kinda want to see what happens in the next installment! I cannoy wait for Avas and Eli’s story. Their story seems like it will be GREAT! this story didnt fee like an enemies to lovers… maybe at first a bit but it was more of a friends to lovers in my opinion. For YA novel i found it was very pleasant to read.
I really loved this mature YA romance. Hannah and Jake and their opposites attract relationship was so sweet to read about. They were both great characters.
Jake is the quarterback who has a lot of pressure on his back. His dad was an NFL player, and he feels like the success of his teams is solely on him.
Hannah is a quiet but sassy girl. She’s not part of the popular crowd but that doesn’t really bother her. She isn’t going to be a doormat. She will definitely tell you what she thinks.
As Jake opens up more and Hannah lowers her walls, there is no denying they have chemistry in spades. They were so cute together, and this was such a great YA/NA, sports romance.
My only wish is that there was more to the story at the end. Hopefully we will get some updates on this couple in the future books.

So far this series is turning out to be amazing, it continues to exceed my expectations and Falling For Her is everything! Words can’t express how happy I am that Monica Murphy decided to write these books about the Callahan kids! This book has an excellent plot, Jake and Hannah are great, heart warming characters and I’m highly anticipating reading Ava’s book, I already know it’s going to be SO good!
