There’s something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.
Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price’s attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He’s the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.
Even though Daniel … move.
Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce–and goes out of his way to make that very clear–she can’t let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . . even if it kills her.
Dangerously exciting and darkly romantic, Fallen is a page turning thriller and the ultimate love story.

I have heard a lot about this book ever since it came out. I was so excited to read it but unfortunately, I was not that captivated by this book. The plot was not fully explained in the first book and I’m guessing the second book should cover it in more detail. Lauren did use a very strong vocabulary and I did enjoy that! Yes I will be reading the next books, but I wont be seeking them
actively.
3 Stars
Fallen (Book #1), Torment (Book #2), Passion (Book #3), Fallen in Love (Book #3.5), Rapture (Book #4), and Unforgiven (Book #5) make up the Fallen series by Lauren Kate. They are Young Adult, paranormal stories- with fantasy, angels, good vs evil, drama, angst, fate, hidden agendas, danger, mystery, a love triangle, reincarnation, and more.
This is another book/series that has been sitting on my book has been on my TBR for far too long. Another series that had got lost amongst the thousands of books on/in my TBR. This year part of my reading challenge was to reduce my TBR- both in paperbacks and on my kindle, by reading some of the older backlog. So, here we are….
After reading the entire series now, I have to admit that although the premise and world building was quite good, there were parts that really frustrated me, and fell a little short. I was expecting to be blown away- but it just failed to deliver on my expectations. That’s not to say that I didn’t like the series, I didn’t mind it- but I fear my expectations were much higher than the books could deliver. I do recommend reading the books/series for yourself and making up your own mind though, as there are plenty of people who absolutely loved them.
The story/series follows Lucinda (Luce), Daniel, Cam, (and many other characters) as we discover a world of fallen Angels, Nephilim, curses, reincarnation, and even some time travel. There is much more to the characters and the situation than first appears, and there were a few twists thrown in that I didn’t see coming- but a lot of the story was a little predictable.
I would read more of Lauren Kate’s work just to get more of a feel of what she’s capable of.
Thank you, Lauren Kate!
I loved this book so much! I read it my Junior year of high school. I couldn’t put it down, I was glued to it.
I love YA PNR with angels and this was a great one!
One of my absolute favorites! <3
“2 out of 5 stars. For how long the book is, it sometimes seems to repeat itself and never move on. In addition…”

I was not a big fan of this book. I read this book in 6th grade and I couldn’t get into it. I’m going to try it again in hopes of enjoying it because several people have loved it.
This is the first physical book I’ve read in over a year and a half and it was exactly what I needed. I love reviewing ARCs but since they all are mostly Ebook, I don’t get to read a lot of physical books. I mean, I could probably, but I don’t have time for it.
As I finished the book I saw the recommended age (12 years old) and have to agree that that’s exactly where it belongs. Maybe I’d say a 3 years plus wouldn’t be bad either.
I have seen the movie before, even though it was a few years back, and that was also why I continued reading this book. The other bonus was that I read it in my language (Czech) and didn’t have to think too hard about some words…so basically this read was like my small vacation.
There was no hard pressure, no kissing as much or cursing, since it’s a “teen” book, but I could get through it. The story was developing slowly, maybe sometimes too slowly, but because I saw the movie I kind of knew what will happen (even if the movie isn’t like the book at all – the main thing remained there at least).
I don’t really wanna talk about my dislikes of this book, because they are so minor. What I will say is that sometimes it was annoying. Like when Luce was too shy or too digging or when she did something no one probably would, but at the same time I reminded myself that this IS in fact a “teen” book hence the annoyance from my side.
I will however finish this tetralogy. It might take me a while, because I have to finish my other books, but I will. I need to know how it ends.
Also, if you have seen the movie before reading this book, a lot of things are different and it was frustrating remembering how they disrespected and disregarded this book!
I really enjoyed this series. This is the first book I have read of fallen angels. I like the attraction between Cam, Luce and Daniel. I can’t wait to read the next book to see what is going to happen
It was really interesting and right when I finished the first book I had to read the rest.
An incredible beginning to the series.
Lauren Kate’s books are just wonderful. Very romantic, innocent characters. Extremely entertaining. Can’t put it down.
This book was amazing.
I liked how it had Love by fait and by past lives. How the love was epic yet forbidden. This book Had an angel loving a human girl. And how the love is eternal through all her past lives.
This is an interesting book with believable characters and suspense. It makes you think about angels on earth and the difference between good and evil and if there is a defining line.
This is book one in a series that I might continue reading. This book is absolutely beautiful, the romance between the characters and how they are connected is beautiful. How it is written and this love of theirs is so strong. You will not regret reading this book I can assure you.
Lucinda is sent to sword & Cross a reform boarding school. It isn’t long before she meets David, a boy who has a darker side to him and Cam a boy who doesn’t want anything to do with her but she is drawn to him never the less. Which is the right path for Lucinda to choose?
Good story. A bit slow in some spots but overall was entertaining.
I read the book a few months ago, writing is excellent, and some of the characters interested me.
But! And it’s huge but ~
The book is too kitschy. It is too predictable, kitschy, sweet kitsch, dripping with kitsch.
Seriously? Did he give up an important role in a frenzy just for a girl? Ugh!
And the thing that every lifetime they meet again? Come on!
They don’t even fit for God’s sake!
In short, and this is my opinion alone – this could be an excellent book in another incarnation.
I adored this epic saga! Lauren Kate’s tale of love between Luce, a troubled teen girl, and Daniel, the mysterious boy at her school, will always be one of my favorite paranormal romances. Angels, demons and star-crossed love, oh my.
I grabbed this off a display at the library completely unaware of it being part of a series or any of the hype. That being said, I loved it.
It was 1/2 way through when I realized it would need a secure book at least to finish the story. Imagine my surprise to learn there are 4 more with a fifth coming out this year.
Now I am ordering all of them on Amazon to get my fix. I am a Fallen addict. Cam maybe a hotty but Daniel takes the cake. Good vs. Bad in a war for love. What is not to love about this book.
Luce is trying to acclimate to reform school. Yup, she is considered dangerous, even her parents are wary of her. Can little miss innocent survive at Sword & Cross? Its a bumpy ride that you won’t want to get off of.
so great! 10/10 recommended!!! lauren did such a great job! had a hard time putting this down
