When Jesse McDermitt leaves the Marine Corps, he has no idea what he will do for the rest of his life. He only knows he doesn’t want to spend the coming winter anywhere cold. His greatest skill is killing people from up to a mile away and he knows there aren’t many job opportunities in the civilian world for that.Jesse also knows his way around boats and has an old friend living free and easy in … and easy in the Florida Keys. Being an experienced diver and angler, he immediately heads south toward Key West and the end of the road.
With a single comment, a waitress in a waterfront restaurant in north Key Largo shakes loose a long dormant dream and Jesse runs with it. With the help of friends, new and old, he buys just the right boat to live on and soon starts a part time charter business. Everything is going smoothly, until a Carolina girl and a hurricane hit him at the same time.
Danger lurks in the sleepy little town of Marathon, in the middle of the Florida Keys, as well as in the swamps of the Everglades. But danger doesn’t expect to run into a man like Jesse. A man who will not only respond swiftly in facing it, but with a vengeance unexpected.

I just read Wayne Stinnett’s Jesse McDermitt book FALLEN OUT, the first in his series. Fun characters, great settings, and top-notch action. You can bet the rest of the series is at the top of my to be read pile and I can’t wait to dive into ’em.
Great start to the series
Where it all started for Wayne. I love reading first in series to see how the authors writing style evolves over time. Great read!
Excellent reading. Great characters, Stinnett does a very good job making Jesse McDermit believable. About the time you think you can predict the next chapter there is another twist. Great kickoff to a very entertaining series.
This is a series. I’ve read the first two and hope to read the rest in the series.
love this series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well written and very realistic character’s. Had a hard time putting the book down. Can’t wait to read the next novel!
The main character, Jesse McDermitt, is a retired Marine who becomes a fishing charter captain. To those of us who are familiar with Travis McGee, Jesse could be his grandson. Same swashbuckling derring-do. It’s a good read, you can see the action and the people in your mind.
Kinda of a modern era Travis McGee. I find myself totally immersed in Wayne’s stories, reading until I can’t. A combination of laid back boat bum and high tech crusader. The best escapist fiction from two perspectives. I bought the whole series after reading the first one.
This is the prequel to Wayne Stinnett’s Caribbean Adventure Series, and it fills in a lot of blanks in the back story. I’ve read all of Wayne’s Jesse McDermitt books and the Charity Styles series as well, and they are all gripping. Being a Florida writer myself I enjoy the settings, and he has great characters. Highly recommended!
Enjoyed the read, I will read more of his books.
It was a great read. Entertaining and kept my attention.
If you are a fan of boats/water/adventure/military you will really enjoy this book!
Love this whole series
The setting in the Florida Keys was interesting, as was the background info on marine training. Some exciting scenes separated by so-so story. I probably won’t read anymore of his books.
If nothing else I learned some navigational terms. This book, I’ve read 1-3 and I’m on #4, was great, they’ve all been great. Characters are people who I wish were my friends. The plots are well thought out and clearly explained as they play out. I hope the author keeps writing this series because it’s one of my all time favorites.
Good but thoughtless read. Ho-Hum.
I really liked it! It was funny and entertaining. I’m reading the 2nd book in the series now.
This book is awesome. You just cannot put it down.
One of the best series of books I have ever read.
Be careful, once you get hooked on Wayne’s characters you won’t be able to stop! Great, easy and fun reads.
