Buroker is great. I love ALL of her books. When you get a chance to get multiple books for a good price, jump on it! Warning – addictive. I’ve chugged through this entire series, purchasing the rest. MY wife also loves them.
This is a bit different from the classic space opera. The war is over. The Empire has fallen. The Rebel Alliance is teetering on the brink of collapse. A wise-cracking fighter pilot and widow is trying to find her missing daughter along with the oddest bunch of misfits to ever find themselves sharing a previously junked space freighter. Very good read. I’ve finished the first three books of the series, and I’m working through the Prologue.
Couldn’t put these books down. You will not be disappointed.
Loved the whole series—will be reading more by this author!
This story grabbed me from the very beginning!
Lots of action and battles both planet-side and in space, with good tongue-in-cheek humor. This is a well-crafted sci-fi novel with strong plot and creative concepts and still manages to be incredibly funny at times. The characters are complex and well developed.
The massive Empire has fallen to the Alliance and the resulting “free” worlds are in chaos without a strong government. Marooned on the planet, Dustor, after the war, Alliance space captain Alisa Marchenko and her engineer/mechanic, Mica, team up with an imperial Cyborg Corp soldier to escape Dustor’s planetary hell; the tentative alliance necessary to get access to Alisa’s old spaceship, the Star Nomad, where the cyborg was living. After taking on a crewman hunted by the White Dragon mafia, a doctor-turned-monk, and a space scientist/hippie with her flotilla of live chickens, Alisa pilots the ship toward Perun, where she hopes to find her daughter, with a side-trip to the Trajean Asteroid Belt. It is only the start of a peril-filled journey across the galaxy. I do not like spoilers so I won’t say any more.
I really enjoyed these books – battles, political intrigue, space travel, plots within plots! Anyone who enjoys good science fiction will enjoy this collection.
This entire series was like a great season of sci-fi with a decent budget! Yes, I admit that after book 2, I was INVESTED in the romance between the mains, but the entire series was equal parts space romp and action sci-fi drama with a hefty dose of “found family” ensemble cast in the form of the ship’s crew (aka “collection of misfits”), every one of whom I was invested in. The entire premise is “what happens after the Evil Empire is defeated?” and it’s less neatly-wrapped as the ending credits montage of a famous sci-fi movie series we all know and love. And that, of course, makes for fascinating reading.
It was a different read. Very entertaining
Part of the series. A fun read with dedicated but naive hero’s and heroines with the inevitable flawed character with we think a heart of gold. IMHO the first of the series is the best.
I have enjoyed so much, I bought the next couple in the series. Good character building and interaction.
my kind of action packed adventure!!!
These books are a good read. Nothing outstanding, but a good read.
Love it, happily recommending it to all.
Loved it
Liked the characters. A lot of fun to read.
Enjoyed the book but was a little slow at first, but some of the action was well written.
Loved every book, just wish there wasn’t 5or6 books.
I’m a new fan of Buroker. I’d read her grocery list. That said, this series is something new and very engaging. Is it Emperors Edge? No, but it’s quite good. The characters are vaguely recognizable, too, if you read (and loved) that series, as did I. I definitely recommend this series also.
All the books in this series are fantastic. I enjoyed them so much I recommended tham to everyone I could tell!!! LOved these books!!!!!
Enjoy this series and look forward to reading more.
Good read….didn’t realize that it was part of as larger series….thought just a trilogy.
