INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR
Q – What’s the Section One series about?
A – It’s a fast-paced, action-packed series that revolves around Section One, a covert intelligence agency based out of Auckland, New Zealand. My characters are operatives who deal with terrorism, organized crime and political conspiracy. They are joined by a large supporting cast of spies, assassins and vigilantes.
Q – What makes the Section One series special?
A – When I set out to write this series, I wanted to create an experience that mirrored the kind of books that I love to read on my Kindle. My favourites are usually spy and espionage novels, as well as pulp thrillers and mystery bestsellers.
Naturally enough, the Section One books are a mix of various genres. Some are technothrillers. Others are political thrillers. There are even a few religious thrillers in the mix. I’ve worked hard to make the action and suspense exciting, and this series is designed to keep you turning the pages.
Q – Why should readers give these books a try?
A – Because the Section One series is dark and provocative, with plots ripped straight from the headlines. It features realistic tradecraft, geopolitical intrigue and cross-cultural insight. As a result, each book has been a bestseller and has been featured on the Amazon Kindle’s 100 Must Read Thrillers list.
Q – What order should I read the books in?
A – I’ve written the Section One series so that each bestseller stands alone. However, they are all connected to a larger narrative. If you want to read them in chronological order, you can follow this sequence:
> Fallen Angel
> The Blasphemer
> Rebellion
Q – Who are your favourite authors?
A – I enjoy reading the following action and adventure authors: David Morrell, Barry Eisler, Tom Wood, Jonathan Maberry, Brad Taylor, Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, David Baldacci, Lee Child, Daniel Silva, James Patterson, Iris Johansen, Russell Blake, L.T. Ryan, Steven Konkoly, Murray McDonald, Andrew Peterson, Trevor Scott, Mark Dawson, Brett Battles.

What a thriller! Breathtaking action! It starts fast and the tension just keeps ratcheting up right through to the end. Bravo, Mr. Ling!
This was great but it ended too soon. Realistic, current affairs based story and action. Believable characters. Like everything I have read from John, I didn’t put it down until I was done and I was done too soon.
A Great Spy Mystery
John Ling is a master when it comes to penning espionage thrillers with an international flare, engaging characters, strong dialogue, and astute, tough, methodical, feisty, and hard-hitting women. The backdrop is Auckland, where terrorists and bombing are supposedly nonexistent, but nothing is never what it seems as Kendra Shaw will soon discover when she sees her ex, Ryan Hosseini, being followed by four covert operatives. Each chapter exhibits, through some flashbacks, gripping events, clandestine predicaments, cyber terrorism, secrets and lies, shocking revelations, revenge, and treachery, leaving you eager to see what the next episode has pending. But with so many twists and turns, if you think you know how this storyline will end, you don’t know Kendra Shaw and will have you asking, “How far would you go to save an ex and his parents, who didn’t like you, and your relationship with your ex ended on a sour note?”
Well here we go again with John Ling gifting us readers with yet another thrilling read ride. A compelling read kept me hooked throughout the whole book. Fallen Angel proves out to be a great story line with Kendra, main female lead character doing her job to ensure the reader enjoys the book too. NO spoiler. Not going to tell how and what and why, you just have to read this book, and there is NO disappointments in this book either. But I can, after reading John Ling’s books tell you he is one accomplished AUTHOR who delivers!!!!! This is a MUST read. ENJOY!!! I did.
I just finished reading this book. It is awesome. The story is exciting interesting and engaging. The main character is a woman who has been a special ops for Section One. She has been in therapy after having a meltdown. She feels she is doing good and is out and trying to get a hold on her life again. However, the hold is short lived when she sees someone from her past. This leads her into a rough situation. I am happy to recommend this book to everyone.
Kendra Shaw is a block op assassin. After an emotional break down because innocent people were killed during an op in Iraq. She has a breakdown from guilt. She sees her ex boy friend Ryan looking like he was involved in a store bombing. She goes to Ryan’s parents house and sees things are not the way his parents would keep their property. She then realizes why Ryan was involved with the bombing. There is a lot of action in this thriller, so much it is difficult to stop reading.
This is a great book! Unputdownable with a main character that overcomes tragic circumstances. I’m looking forward to more from this author.
The Angel is Redeemed
(Disclaimer: I was provided a copy of the book and decided to provide my honest review, which I have.) Fallen Angel by John Ling is a short action-adventure mystery. The book starts off with the protagonist, an agent attempting re-integration from a 10-year Baghdad assignment, confronted with a terrorist conspiracy. It is immediately becomes troubling for her because it may or may not involve her old boyfriend. From that point on, because of her actions and unbeknownst to her she is followed, shot at and driven deeper into the conspiracy of her old boyfriend and his involvement with terrorists. While there is a lot of action/adventure, mystery and crime solving, the plot is thin, not complicated, and does not require me, as the reader, to engage in any part of the book. My RECOMMENDATION: If you want a read that is non-stop Action-Adventure and a Mystery Crime Investigation Thriller that requires no reader engagement then Fallen Angel is the book for you. –Tex.
