Ken Follett’s magnificent historical epic begins as five interrelated families move through the momentous dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for women’s suffrage. A thirteen-year-old Welsh boy enters a man’s world in the mining pits. . . . An American law student rejected in love finds a surprising new career in Woodrow Wilson’s White House. . . . A … . . . A housekeeper for the aristocratic Fitzherberts takes a fateful step above her station, while Lady Maud Fitzherbert herself crosses deep into forbidden territory when she falls in love with a German spy. . . . And two orphaned Russian brothers embark on radically different paths when their plan to emigrate to America falls afoul of war, conscription, and revolution.
From the dirt and danger of a coal mine to the glittering chandeliers of a palace, from the corridors of power to the bedrooms of the mighty, Fall of Giants takes us into the inextricably entangled fates of five families—and into a century that we thought we knew, but that now will never seem the same again. . . .

A great read. Was not quite as good as the others in the series, but good enough to keep me going.
A must read series.
A fascinating look at the world just prior to WWI in The British Empire. Long, but easy to read. There are lots of characters, but it is easy to keep them straight. Although I haven’t finished it yet, I am enjoying it and expect to keep doing so.
Informative historical fiction.
Ken Follett at his best following the lives of characters from his earlier books about the same place in medieval England. Excellent.
The type of historical novels I love! History and facinating characters
This is part of an excellent series. You want to read all three!
Truly should be listed as a Classic. Wonderful
One of a series, need to be read in order.
I highly recommend any of Follet’s novels. I am instantly drawn into his work and his characters are well developed. I always hate to reach the end.
The political agenda was tiresome. The characters were well developed, so if possible I would have rated it 3 1/2 if possible.
Typical Ken Follett book. Packed with history. I learn something every time I read his books. I am sad to realize that he typecasts women and describes them in the same subservient, sexest terms every time.
Another outstanding book by Follet tough to put down
Great book!
Folleto brings the WWl countries and people from opposing nations into a well written theme…no better way to learn and appreciate history than a storyteller, in my opinion. No need to memorize dates in this approach since it reads like a 20 year span diary. Did not want to finish the book.
Great Trilogy! Any book by him is great!!
Love ALL of Ken Follette’s books.
An easy way to get educated in history.
It wasn’t boring but it also wasn’t particularly compelling. It is unfair to hold all his books to the standard of Pillars of the Earth but this is what happens when you write a novel as good as that.
Fall of Giants simply exists. It is well written and that saves it but the plot itself is mediocre. The drama and twists that have defined previous books are there but so watered down that it doesn’t really matter. I did not consider stopping reading but I also would not read a second time.
