Ken Follett’s magnificent historical epic begins as five interrelated families move through the momentous dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for women’s suffrage. A thirteen-year-old Welsh boy enters a man’s world in the mining pits. . . . An American law student rejected in love finds a surprising new career in Woodrow Wilson’s White House. . . . A … . . . A housekeeper for the aristocratic Fitzherberts takes a fateful step above her station, while Lady Maud Fitzherbert herself crosses deep into forbidden territory when she falls in love with a German spy. . . . And two orphaned Russian brothers embark on radically different paths when their plan to emigrate to America falls afoul of war, conscription, and revolution.
From the dirt and danger of a coal mine to the glittering chandeliers of a palace, from the corridors of power to the bedrooms of the mighty, Fall of Giants takes us into the inextricably entangled fates of five families—and into a century that we thought we knew, but that now will never seem the same again. . . .

Completely absorbing, addictive, and filled with Follett’s special brand of “painless history.”
Ken Follett never disappoints and FALL OF GIANTS is no exception! Rich, epic, and thoroughly captivating, he highlights important parts of the early 20th century through the lives of elaborately portrayed characters whom the readers will feel instant connection with. Can’t wait to read the next two in the series!
I was shocked how much I enjoyed the book and, as I was reading it on my Kindle app, was not happy when it ended! so glad there is another book, which I’m reading now. The characters are fantastic, really bringing the story to life in a way my history teachers never did.
Some in my family have accused the Century Trilogy of being too slow and, I will admit, the beginning is a bit. But, I think the book more than redeems itself with the wealth of historical information and the way that Ken Follett brings WWI to life. I have never been overly interested in the history of the World Wars but, through the story of the characters, I developed a connection to that time period I had never experienced before.
Must read for all Folett fans. Ranks with Pillars of the Earth
Loved this book. Waiting impatiently for author’s next one.
This book is part of a three book trilogy; I recommend them all!
Great historical novel that is the first in a series following some families through the start of World War 1 through the World War II up until the election of Barack Obama. It touches on the lives of those who were poor without power as well as those who were wealthy and lost power. Fascinating group of novels. I thoroughly enjoyed all three of them.
Historically revealing and informative.
Amazing characters. Beautiful description of life in other times
Amazing stories! Fictional and historic characters entwined in this trilogy. This is book one of the Century trilogy. The timeline is WWI. Trench wars, German submarine warfare, U.S. Politics of joining the war and the dissolution of empires make for a reading that leaves you much entertained and enlightened about this part of history.
Ken Follet never disappoints. So many stories unfolding at once. Fabulous character development!
