“When I kissed you last night, I wasn’t pretending.”Everly Dalton is a walking, talking, martini-drinking dating disaster. Forget kissing frogs. She can’t even get past the first date. But at work, she’s a badass—the longest-running assistant billionaire Shepherd Calloway has ever had. Her coworkers wonder how she handles the big bad wolf—and never gets bit. Shepherd Calloway isn’t interested in …
Shepherd Calloway isn’t interested in being anyone’s sugar daddy. Tired of women who only want him for his money, he swears off dating, determined to focus on running his empire. Until his gold-digging ex hits him where it hurts, putting him in a difficult position.
His solution—to have Everly pose as his live-in girlfriend—is obviously crazy. But the timing is uncanny. It just so happens Everly needs a favor from her boss—a big and awkward one—and this could ensure everyone gets what they want.
Besides, Everly can totally survive a few months of faux romance.
Except there’s a problem. Shepherd is supposed to be a single-minded, unemotional robot boss. Not an actual human with a heart and morning wood. Between the awkward bed-sharing and tingly fake dates, lines are blurring. And as Everly gets to know the real Shepherd, she discovers there’s more to the man behind the bank account.
And faking it gets all too real.
Faking Ms. Right is a hot, STAND-ALONE romantic comedy.

“So you need a fake girlfriend.” “Precisely. I’ll need you to move in.” “Let me get this straight. You want me to pretend we’re dating?” “Yes.” “And move in with you?” “Yes.” “Are you insane?”
A new to me author that came highly recommended and I’m happy I chose to pick up this title. Everly was like a breath of fresh air, sprinkled with sunshine and when she entered a room a little bit rubbed off on you. You just couldn’t help but to like her, whilst Svetlana was the complete opposite calculating and cold. I fell in love with the boyish charm that Shepherd kept hidden. What an enigma he was, guarded, a bit brash, however to those who knew him he was caring and funny. The side characters were hilarious and I’m definitely going to be reading their stories. Although the trope wasn’t unique Ms Kingsley gave this book a few twists which kept it unpredictable.
Love this book by Claire Kingsley! The fake engagement is always a fun trope and Everly is the perfect Yin to Shepard’s Yang.
4.5 Stars
Everly and Shepherd, two of the most unlucky in love yet one fake relationship between a Boss and his assistant, everything changes.
I absolutely loved this book!
Outside of some very minor inconsistencies, I didn’t want to stop reading it.
Other than the ex, I really loved every character! I am excited to pick up the next book.
Everly was an executive assistant to a billionaire that everyone in the office tried to hide from. She had outlasted all his previous assistants of which she was very proud. After 3 years she doubted he even knew what she looked like, but she quickly learned his habits and made sure his days went smoothly. After her latest dating disaster she is giving up on dating. At least with her boss she knew what to expect – cold, surly and she doubted that even after working for him for 3 years he even knew what she looked like.
Shepherd was cursed with gold diggers. When he sees his ex attaching herself to his father he asks his assistant to move in with him and pretend to be his girlfriend. Her response was “Not on the same page. I don’t think we’re reading the same book.”
You most definitely need to read Everly Dalton’s Dating Disasters if you haven’t already. I t is hilarious and a great lead in to this book. Claire Kingsley out did herself on this one. This book is steamy hot and Shepherd has a few secrets and not the cold robot everyone sees. Amazing book!!!
It has been a loooong time since a book has kept me up late like this was. I was ready to go to bed 3 hours ago but I wanted to finish the chapter I was on and, well, I did finish that chapter…and the rest of the book.
This book was so much fun to read and captivating!! It wasn’t suspenseful or super angsty captivating but it was the perfect balance of humor, sexy, “what next” to keep you wanting more and not able to put it down. I definitely smiled (and even literally LOL’d) my way through this book.
Easy-peasy-rice-and-cheesy 5 star and one of my new favorites!
This book blends a few of my favorite romance tropes: fake dating, employee/boss, millionaire/billionaire, grumpalicious jerkface shows his soft side.
This series is fantastic – girl power! – and to get right down to the nitty gritty, Claire Kingsley’s writing and stories are just plain terrific. I haven’t met a CK book I didn’t love.
Faking Ms. Right is a hilarious, super sweet (eventually), steamy love story that you really won’t want to put down.
Plus, I love that Everly Dalton reminds me of me… a hot mess who also kicks ass at her job… And loves dirty martinis. 😉
Yes, you should read it!
I loved sunny Everly and grumpy Shepherd. Everly works for Shepherd and they have a very polite professional relationship. He’s a hard boss to work for. Everly has had a series of bad dates and decides to take a break for awhile. Not long after Shepherd breaks up with his girlfriend he suddenly finds himself in need of a fake girlfriend and asks Everly to pretend to be his girlfriend. She ends up moving into his place and the two have to pretend to be a couple. Through the book we meet Everly’s friends and her sister and Shepherd’s dad and brother, some of who know it’s fake. As things begin to progress they both begin to fall for each other. We see the typical romance book conflict. The sex is explosive and they share some kinks. In the end they get their HEA.
I loved how he was so torn up about her going across the country for a job interview for the perfect job that he flew there and interrupted the interview (well I didn’t like the interruption part). The thought of him freaking out about her leaving had him trying to prevent her from taking a job across the country was sweet.
Shepherd Calloway is used to the vapid women he dates who are only interested in his check book. He is ready to be done with his latest girl friend and move on, however she has other plans which puts him a precarious situation. Deciding he needs a fake girlfriend he asks his assistant Everly Dalton for a favor. Everly is unsure but agrees the next thing she knows she is living with him as his pretend fiancee and she has a favor she needs in return but is afraid to ask.
This was quite a bit of fun. I thought Everly was adorable and it was entertaining seeing Shepherd lose his standoffish demeanor and soften with Everly near by. A few surprises in the book and a lot of smiles to be had.
If Everly Dalton is the personification of sunshine then Sheperd Calloway is the epitome of dark stoicism. He comes across as a robotic workaholic. Everly manages him very well even if he doesn’t know it. Suddenly the boss and his executive assistant are in a fake relationship that leads to a fake engagement in order to protect his father during a life crisis. Fake becomes real when feelings come into play. When you get real you can be hurt.
The perfect fake relationship romance with a broody cocky hero and a sweet heroine. Loved every word!
I seem to be on a Romcom binge. Although the situations were OTT they were funny and made for a lighthearted storyline.
We also get the misunderstanding and making up all in all an enjoyable read.
Claire is a new-to-me author, and I immediately bought the rest of the books in the series. With so many books called ‘romantic comedy’ in the market now, Claire proves what the subgenre is really all about. This was both steamy/sexy and hilarious all at the same time.
Really enjoyable fake relationship romance. Everly Dalton is the Uber-efficient executive assistant to Billionaire Shepherd Calloway. When one of Shepherd’s exes latches onto his ailing father to try to get Shepherd back, he asks Everly to pretend to be his girlfriend. Very fun, light read. At one point, I did have a sense of déjà-vu when a scene was very familiar. This book crosses over from. Claire Kingsley’s The Muscle and the Mogul. If you enjoyed that series, you will enjoy this book.
I LOVED Faking Ms. Right. Everly and Shepherd together are one of my favorite couples that Claire Kingsley has created.
Everly is the queen of bad dates. She has encountered it all and lived to laugh about it. Shepherd is her boss and he finds himself in need of a girlfriend so he decides Everly would be the perfect fake girlfriend. Since Everly needs a favor from Shepherd, she agrees. Of course, lines begin to blur then.
Everly is a delight and I want to be friends with her. She’s fun and caring and beneath his gruff exterior, we discover that Shepard has a gentle side that he hides from everyone. And the chemistry is smoking hot between these two.
Fake relationships are my jam and if you love them, you won’t want to miss this book. I have no doubt that you will fall in love with Everly and Shepherd just like I did.
Poor Everly Dalton doesn’t just have dating disasters but she also works for Shepherd Calloway who seems to be cold & aloof. Everly does her job well but discovers early on why he has gone through so many assistants. When Shepherd has an issue with his current girlfriend he asks Everly if she’ll pretend to be his girlfriend. And that is when he begins to see Everly as a woman, not just his assistant. I love their banter, how they got along with each other’s siblings (and Everly also got along fabulously with his dad). I can’t wait for more books in the series, following Everly’s friends.
Everly has worked with Shepherd Calloway for three years, but he has never once even said her name. So when he calls her in the middle of the night and tells her he needs her to “Get sexy” and meet him at an event, she is super surprised. And when he asks her to be his fake girlfriend and move in with him, it sounds like a nightmare. In reality, it’s an absolutely amazing beginning to a gorgeous and quite hilarious love story between the two. And let me tell you when they finally act on their feelings it is hotter than the sidewalk on a summer day!
Shepherd Calloway is one of the most unique heroes I’ve read about. He is calculating and fierce, intimidating and confident, handsome and oh so surprising. Like most stories about businessmen, he’s so much more than just a suit. But I don’t think I quite expected to uncover just how unique he is. Every time we got a look into what he was thinking or how he was feeling, he would amaze me with his adoration for Everly. And just when I thought he couldn’t get better, he went and showed a whole new side to himself that no one had seen before. By day Shepherd will have you blushing in the boardroom and by night he will rock your panties off.
I knew going into this book I would like it because anything Claire Kingsley writes is absolute gold. But I don’t think I was quite ready for how amazing and fun this book would be. Office romances and fake relationships are two popular tropes in romance and Claire marries them together beautifully while adding in lots of laughs and love. I completely devoured this book in one day because I was so invested in the lives of these characters. I had to know what was going to happen to not only the main characters but the supporting ones also. The supporting characters were just as unique and hilarious and always kept you on your toes. I mean who knew that Shepherd’s big boss dad would be the best party planner out there?
I absolutely loved this story and it is definitely a five-star read! And like any other time I fall in love with a book, I always want more. I want more of the couple I fell in love with. I want more about the supporting characters. But essentially, I want more marvelous books by the author who continually has me falling in love with her stories. I can’t help but hope and pray that this book will turn into the first book in an amazing series about the Dirty Martini Running Club. For now, I’m going to order an extra dirty martini and raise my glass to Claire Kingsley for writing another sexy, hilarious, and just completely astonishing book.
I really enjoyed this book! It was laugh out loud funny, sweet, sexy and an overall feel good read. It features perspectives from both main characters. That was a nice touch that Claire Kingsley does do in most of her books (actually in all the ones I have read.) The story line and characters are well developed and likable. Some aspects of the plot are predictable. However, that doesn’t take away from how great it it. Also, if you have read the Miles series or the Bluewater Billionaire series, you will notice subtle references to both. That was a pleasant surprise. The only negative is that this is a stand-a-lone, I NEED MORE Everly & Shep!!!
I have devoured every book Claire has written. She has a way of writing that draws you in and you can’t put the book down until you are done!
Shepherd Calloway is brooding, cold, alpha-male and I just love that in a book-boyfriend! He is done with gold-digging women and decides to just focus on his business.
Everly Dalton is a dating disaster. She can’t catch a break, every date she has is worse than the last one. But at work, she is a badass! So she decides to give up dating and focus on work.
This is the making of an awesome start for these two! Throw in an ex-gold digging woman, an adorable father going through a crisis, a sister who wants your boss’ sperm, and a fake-relationship…what could go wrong?
I laughed, cried and cheered while reading this book. I loved growly Shepherd, as their fake-relationship started to turn real, and how he starts to show Everly his hidden side. I loved how he fell for her sparkle and sunshine. I loved reading about Everly’s friends Hazel and Nora. I can’t wait to read their stories!
Faking Ms. Right (A Hot Romantic Comedy) is a adorable, hilarious romantic love story. I absolutely loved it and didn’t want it to finish. This audio checked all the right boxes for a scrumptious icing on the cake listen. Sweet & sultry, a fun listen with a perfect hea.
Narators Jason Clarke, Emma Wilder were perfect for the characters. I absolutely loved Emma Wilder’s naration. Her inflection was sweet, smooth and saccharine to listen.
Audiobook Review
Overall 4.5 stars
Performance 5 stars
Story 4 stars
The tagline “A Hot Romantic Comedy” was no lie! Faking Ms. Right was a hilariously sexy romcom and had so many of my favorite tropes. There’s fake relationship, forced proximity, taboo office romance, and some enemies to lovers thrown in for good measure. I loved the prequel novella, Everly Dalton’s Dating Disasters, which introduced readers/listeners to Everly and her less than stellar string of first dates. Though not necessary to enjoy this story, it will provide greater insight into Everly and also sets the stage perfectly for this book.
I loved the contrast between optimistic and sunshiney Everly and aloof and grumpy Shepherd. They had amazing banter and chemistry. Watching them go from strangers to more was so delicious (though it did take Shepherd a long time to see the writing on the wall ;)) Yes, there’s some OW drama involving an ex, but from the start it’s clear that it’s a non-issue. Our characters may bicker and go toe to toe, but they are all in once things get going. As much as I love all the romance, I really appreciated that both families and Everly’s BFF’s, Nora and Hazel, were just as important to the story. They provided wonderful support and comic relief and I’m excited that Nora and Hazel will each get their own stories in the future.
Jason Clarke was scorching hot as Shepherd Calloway and had me fanning myself many times while listening to this one. His growly voice was absolutely perfect (swoon). Emma Wilder was equally amazing as Everly and their narration really enhanced the story. I enjoyed both their male and female voices and these two were such a fantastic narrating duo. A great listen from start to finish!
