Catherine Bybee is just a great author. This book took a woman, Shannon, who had fallen in love before and had it go nowhere and put her in a situation where she ended up having to trust what her heart was telling her in order to actually give love a chance again.
She and the hero, Victor, start out really, really annoyed by each other. Shannon finds nothing about him to appreciate. He’s a workaholic who can’t even give his time to his supposed-to-be wife long enough to go on the honeymoon. He’s inconsiderate and obnoxious…and Shannon tells him so.
An exotic location lends a certain different feel to the book. Shannon’s friends and Victor’s brother are awesome secondary characters and the slowly developing attraction and love between Shannon and Victor is just perfect. This is just a great book!
I received a copy of this book via NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.
Hands down a simply wonderful book! Full of hilarious humor, angst and passion- I just loved the chemistry of victor and Shannon! I can’t wait to see more of these characters come to life in the series!
ARC received via Netgalley for an honest review
I have been waiting for Shannon’s story since the series began, and Catherine Bybee did not disappoint.
I went into this story pretty blind, other than it being Shannon’s story, I didn’t know a thing about it. I knew it would be wonderful being part of this series, and that was all I needed to know.
We get insight into her past, delved into her mind for what she wanted for her future, and got to love her and the First Wives even more.
My heart hurt for her as she tried to move on from her divorce and back into her true passions. The passion she found on the job though was not expected. I loved seeing her come out of her shell and into the forefront of the First Wives – she has always been a little in the background as the other ladies are such big personalities. Now she takes the lead, and what a story she gives us.
I laughed, I cried, I truly enjoyed this story, and I can’t wait for Sasha’s story.
If I could give this story more stars I would!
I’ve read all of the stories in the First Wives Series and each one has gotten better. It’s not necessary to read the others, but I would really recommend it as the relationships between the characters are fantastic. Catherine Bybee excels at writing friendships that have strong bonds. We can all hope to have friends as good as her characters.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from the lead in this story. Shannon seems very reserved. She also has been hung up on her ex-husband for a long time. I’m happy to say, I loved her! Shannon finally is finding herself and becoming more comfortable with showing it to others. Her lack of restraint in her first meeting with Victor had me laughing out loud. I did laugh a lot with this book as I just loved Shannon and Victor. Victor was a surprise too. He changed from a self absorbed workaholic to a devoted hero. The path these two take together is such a fun journey. I hated for the story to end! I received an advance copy for an honest review.

Catherine Bybee is always a one-click author for me and Faking Forever is just another example of why that is the case!
Shannon Wentworth has always been the quiet, introspective one of the First Wives Club. Although she’s divorced from her first husband, she hasn’t been in another relationship as it’s taken a long time for her to get over it since she fell in love with him. Now she feels her biological clock ticking and she really wants to be a mother, so she decides to put a plan into action.
Victor Brooks owns his own business and pours his heart and soul into it, but that means he oftentimes isn’t paying attention to the personal relationships in his life. When he nearly marries the wrong woman, he begins to think about how disjointed his priorities might be.
When Shannon and Victor meet for the first time, things don’t go well at all. As the two spend more time around one another, things begin to change and they are both attracted to the other, but with Victor just coming out of a committed relationship and Shannon focused on becoming a mother, the timing is just not right. They decide to wait three months and if they still want to try, then they will. You know what they say about best laid plans…
I really enjoyed these characters and getting to know more about Shannon in particular. She has always been the one that gives great advice, but has always been the calming, reasonable voice in the First Wives group. We get to see a bit more of her sassy side and I think we see her evolve and open up even more after she and Victor get involved.
This was another fantastic addition to this series and I am really looking forward to what Catherine has in store for Sasha in her book!
