Kyra Aberdeen is a Youtube sensation. Her bubbling personality and fresh beauty capture the hearts of millions each week through her videos. But she’s just faking it. Because beneath the surface is a simmering darkness that threatens to pull Kyra under some days. She masks her depression with a sunny smile and bright laugh.
When Kyra moves to Canaan Island and buys her deceased mother’s … mother’s childhood home, she is hoping to confront the lurking darkness that haunts her every step. But life never goes according to plan, and when Kyra meets her grumpy contractor, Hale Cooper, it seems he’s not going to make things any easier for her. Yet Kyra is drawn to him, to a man whose every emotion plays across his face as he feels it. But she’s never let herself get too close to anyone before, and she finds herself in uncharted waters.
If she lowers her guard and allows herself to love Hale, will the darkness creep in too?
This book is recommended for readers 18+ due to sexual content and adult language. Some scenes contain cutting or images related to cutting and may be considered triggering to some.

Okay story takes place in low country…adequate character development…slow in parts…good representation of southern life and judgemental nature of many women.
this book is rather childish not something to my liking. BUT I don’t recommend it to anyone younger because of the stupid way the main character dwells on her looks and cutting herself. very very stupid.
Collett brings something different to the table in Fakers. In a world where romance stories tend to be easy, predictable and happily ever after, she introduces some reality in the form of mental illness and how it affects the lives of the characters in her book.
I believe that Collett did an admirable job at incorporating a tough topic into a romance novel. Yes, the love interest comes across initially as rough around the edges and a little bit of a jerk, but I believe the author does this to show that people build walls to protect themselves as he mellows out and shows his softer side later in the story.
Well written and fun to read
It was good considering the price (free). I like the concept of being true to yourself.
I enjoyed the story. Had ups and downs with the characters which made it interesting.
I like stories that demonstrate women’s strengths, not weaknesses. This book depicts the main character, a woman, in a very unflattering light. The author allows the character to be vain, insecure and shallow; not how I like to see women depicted.
I really enjoyed this book. I think if people think about themselves honestly we are all a little “fake” at times. Very good read.
Heavy issues, but not a heavy read. Characters feel fairly relatable. Does have it’s steamy moments.
It was cute
Interesting story with good characters. Also gives you insight into why people choose certain behaviours to cope with life’s problems.
This is a very insightful story about people who suffer from childhood anxieties that cause them to hurt themselves in order to alleviate their inner pain.
Perfectly fine book, just not for me. I don’t like romances.
I liked this story so much , I bought the rest of the books in the series.
better than the usual. troubled girl meets troubled boy with a couple twists.
What a terrific book this is. A must read for many many reasons. I have been hoping to see any and all of Meg Collett’s books for sale since reading this.
I’m not sure I would recommend it to a teen daughter, but I would most certainly think about it. As a mom of grown adults, a woman who has suffered a few life altering events, a person who can identify very much with every character in this book, I recommend it. It truly is not about gloom and doom. It made me laugh out loud and the tears rolled, but it was also… Just a great book.
Book Bub is my primary book club and free books from them is the only way I get the opportunity to read all of the books I do, and I hope to see more of this authors work available.
It was a nice, but predictable book. It was easy to read and a nice airplane/ beach book
I enjoyed this book but the characters started out as very complex and solved all their mental problems over a period of only a couple of weeks. Still the storyline engagedy attention most of the time.
A building series…look forward to completing the story in book three.
I enjoyed this book from the beginning to the end. The story was full of wonderful characters that were funny yet thoughtful. The book touched on a subject that is all too true in today’s world. I enjoyed the book and I’m sure I will enjoy the secoond book as well.
