Kyra Aberdeen is a Youtube sensation. Her bubbling personality and fresh beauty capture the hearts of millions each week through her videos. But she’s just faking it. Because beneath the surface is a simmering darkness that threatens to pull Kyra under some days. She masks her depression with a sunny smile and bright laugh.
When Kyra moves to Canaan Island and buys her deceased mother’s … mother’s childhood home, she is hoping to confront the lurking darkness that haunts her every step. But life never goes according to plan, and when Kyra meets her grumpy contractor, Hale Cooper, it seems he’s not going to make things any easier for her. Yet Kyra is drawn to him, to a man whose every emotion plays across his face as he feels it. But she’s never let herself get too close to anyone before, and she finds herself in uncharted waters.
If she lowers her guard and allows herself to love Hale, will the darkness creep in too?

A good book. Addresses issues usually ignored in a real world way.
This was a sad but good story I enjoyed reading it to end. A story with characters that also had as many problems as kyra but very realistic even brought tears to my eyes I did like the ending and think this will be a good series to finish
I found this book compelling to read . It was a romance with a ‘dark’ undercurrent and with mental health being so prominent in society today it could be educational and inspirational to readers who may have no understanding of such struggles people hide so well. Thank you Meg for a great read
First half of book is an interesting study in how childhood reactions impact adult relationships. I’ve known a couple of cutters, and the drive is accurately described. The next 30% of the book is heavy with the two main characters having sex … repeated scenes. The resolution is interesting if somewhat unresolved.
This book was fantastic! I couldn’t put it down. Kyra’s story was real. All the characters’ stories were real. There was steamy romance between Kyra and Hale that kept me turning the pages and will keeping you turning too.
This book also talks about a few triggers – cutting and alcoholism – but the author talks about them in well crafted ways. She doesn’t shy away from the horrors, yet doesn’t make it glamorous either. It was very well balanced. I’ve already recommended this book to my friends and family!
entertaining!
Caring and supportive friendships in spite of characters personal challenges
A great beach read!
Fun book!
Great characters, historical interest, and paranormal.
I wasn’t going to read this book at first because it talked of cutting etc. but so happy I got into it….explains a lot and it was a very good read!!!! Also it’s a happy ever after which was wonderful.
I absolutely loved this book! The characters were all so flawed & real. I loved seeing the thought process of the characters, very eye-opening. I loved how they were all flawed in different ways but supported each other & helped each other. I could have done with less swearing & sex but otherwise a great read.
Just a Great Store line
Wonderful story! Characters are well developed and so easy to identify with!
Enjoyed it very much. Tragic in some areas, uplifting and funny in others.
Enjoyed reading and looking forward to getting more books by this author
Loved it!
OMG!! I truly cannot remember the last time I loved a book so much like I loved this one!!! I love all characters, Kyra with all her baggage, her inner turmoil, her sweetness and kindness. Hale, a perfect hero! Hot and sexy and sensitive as hell! I loved the whole story of coming to Canaan and the restoration, the ocean right behind the back yard. I am very much and head over heals in love with that book and can’t wrap my head around the fact that it’s finished. Wow!I certainly did not expect a story like this…
My first Meg collett book,,it won’t be my last.
Wonderful, tender story depicting the main characters heart rendering pain trying to struggle their way through and out of the scars and depression left from childhood. Wonderful way to depict how love, in its many facets, can conquer all. Really enjoyed it.
