Really enjoyed this book, loved the characters, very well written
Enjoyed reading this book. Max told his mother he was engaged to stop her matchmaking. Katie has to return home for a wedding and does not want to show up without a date. Since Max has to also return home because the wedding is one of his best friends, he needs a fake fiancé. Against her better judgement, Katie agrees to the plan. Now add a former girlfriend to the mix and we have a great story.

I received this romance as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The premise of the story is cute: Kate and Max were best friends growing up, but they have lost touch in the several years since they graduated. Kate secretly loved Max and still has feelings for him. She was always hurt, though, because he dated other girls and even had a long-term girlfriend who was very mean to Kate. Kate now lives in New Orleans where she designs and sells her own jewelry, and Max is a rich, successful architect in Houston.
Now Kate and Max have both been invited to a wedding of a mutual friend in their small hometown. Kate needs a date to the wedding, and Max needs a fiance (because he told his mom he was engaged). They decide to go to the wedding (and all the activities in the week before the wedding) as a fake, engaged couple. Then crazy situations ensue.
There were several problems in the storyline that bothered me and made it difficult to buy into:
1. If Max had been engaged to Kate for months before the wedding, why wouldn’t he have told his mom that he was engaged to the girl his mom loved!
2. Max saw his ex, and he was tempted to get together with her again (since she was throwing herself at him). She dumped him in high school because he didn’t have the money or fame his ex craved. Now she wants him because he is rich. Would you be tempted to get together again?
3. Max vacillates between choosing Kate and his ex every time he turns around, it seems. If you were Kate, would you want to be with a man who couldn’t choose between his beautiful and kind best friend or his sexy but mean ex?
Those are just a few examples that made the book difficult for me to enjoy. It was an easy read, which is what I am looking for when reading romance, so that was great.
Natasha Queen is a new author for me. I was impressed with the way she took a familiar friends-to-lovers trope and put a fresh spin on it. I particularly enjoyed the character of Katie with her overly competitive nature that added some comedic relief to the story. I rated this book 4.5 as I felt the character of Max was a bit confusing. I couldn’t easily follow his reasoning in various places in the book. I enjoyed the story and recommend it! I received a free copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving this review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I enjoyed this second chance romance and it was a fun read. Plenty of twists and lots of drama to keep you interested. Hilarious at times as they just dig themselves deeper and deeper. Lies, secrets, jealous ex-girlfriends and lots of family dynamics. A sweet romance set in Pecan Grove. No cliffhanger and a happy ending. I read an arc via Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review.

Katie needs a date to a wedding. Enter her Best Friend Max, who needs a fake fiancée to appease his mother. Throw in an unwanted ex and you have the makings of a raring good time. Will these best friend’s realize it may not be pretend? Definite must read!

This book is like a love triangle between Max, Katie, & Megan. Max and Katie have been friends for years and decide to pretend to be engaged when they attend a wedding back home. However when Megan is also at the wedding, Max is not sure how to feel.

This was so good. I laughed so hard all through the story. Of course, there were some wet eyes also. Max and Katie are adorable!! Well written and love the characters!!!

It is an okay story, but I am not a big fan of the third person way of telling a story, and it was too slow in moving the story forward. Not my kind of book, but I gave it three stars because underneath it all it is a cute story about what friends will do for each other.

Max and Katie are friends that both need something from each other. To get his family off of his back Max needs her to stand in as his fake Fiancé. Through some ups and downs they end up falling for each other but doing their best to keep it to themselves. Will they find their HEA before it’s too late or will the ex he is running from catch up and ruin it all? Loved this story a definite 5 star read once I started it I just could not put it down.

A well-written friends to lovers story with characters that have grown apart over the years. These characters have a back story and have had many experiences together and grow past that to love. I enjoyed this realistic look into their lives. A must read

This is a well written and enjoyable story. The characters are likable and entertaining. While they pretend to be engaged, they may find strong feelings for each other. I recommend for a light and fun read. I received this book as a gift and voluntarily give this review.
She was his closest friend, but would this idea of her being his “fiancee” be a good idea, or bad one?
A fake fiance is what Max wants from Katie, to attend a wedding. Katie wants stipulations on what she will do and not do. A very strange request, indeed, but he finally agrees. The wedding events will last an entire week. Can they do it, without getting discovered as fakes? This is a fun read, with some major issues causing me, at least, to laugh even more. But, will they survive the week? You will have to read it, to know! I highly recommend this book!
Katie had a crush on her best friend Max in high school but he had a girlfriend. Years later Katie received an invitation to a mutual friends wedding and she needed a date so she called on Max. A welcome surprise for him to hear from her, but he also needed something from her. He needed a fake fiance. This is a sweet, friends to lovers romance with drama, humor and a great ending.
Game on & I just loved the competitive heroine. The blurb & previous reviewers have covered the story so I wont focus too much on that. What I really enjoyed, beyond the flawless writing, was the rekindling of the relationship that had sadly died some years ago. Their empathy & attraction could not be denied, notwithstanding the bitch that seized every moment to try to separate them. Even though it was a supposedly fake relationship to attend a wedding, there could be no denying their mutual desire for a hea. I received an arc & this is my honest & voluntary review.
Reminds me of a few kids from my high school years. The friendships made, thinking about wanting more than being friends, but afraid of losing that friend at the same time. Katie n Max plus Megan equals a love triangle. Fast forward to grow ups, well atleast age wise, still have those live in the past moments.
I felt bad for Horace n the way he let himself be treated by Megan, but I really hope he gets his wieners soon.
Sometimes you just need to sit back, relax, take a deep breath and clear your mind. This is the type of book that allows just that. It lets you wind down and escape … escape into world that’s light hearted , romantic and duplicitous. It takes you to a place where the main characters try to ‘pull the wool’ over the eyes of family and friends, but there’s a big problem here, because the only people they’re really fooling are themselves.
So we have Max, Katie and Megan….. hmmmm….. one of those women has to go. But which one? Is it the longtime friend whose too cowardly to let Max know her true feelings? Or is it the self-serving ex who broke Max’s heart back ins high school?
OBSERVATIONS:
There are a few plot holes but they easily are overlooked due to the fun and light-hearted nature of this book.
You’ll find yourself choosing who you love and who you love to hate. Katie and Megan are polar opposites. And you just may find yourself gritting your teeth while wishing Max would grow a pair.
I read and enjoyed Waiting on Her, another Pecan Grove bride book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was surprised when reading Fake Fiancee that it was so very different. It seems this author is not limited to one style of writing. She can bring on the emotion and angst when needed but also throw in a fun, easy to read book for those who want to wind down and simply relax and enjoy some frivolous chaos.
I had mixed feelings about this book. There were parts that I really enjoyed. The idea of two friends finding their way back to each other after so much time is always a good story; but in Fake Fiance Fiasco, they were just that – friends. Throughout the story, Katie remembered how much she had loved Max during high school. Max only remembered Katie as his friend. He only had eyes for Megan. Megan was “the mean girl” – the antagonist in the story. Katie knew how awful she was, but never said anything to Max because she cared for him and only wanted him to be happy. Fast forward to present day… Max discovers just how awful Megan was and he finally begins to see her true colors. At the same time, he also realizes just how much Katie had cared for him, willing to give up her own happiness so that he could be happy. However, during their friends’ pre-wedding week of activities that has brought these three together, Megan continues her shenanigans and Max says nothing. Megan’s “boyfriend” that she has brought to the wedding calls her out on her behavior. Max, sitting at the same table, says nothing, again. He witnesses Megan being rude to his “best friend” and yet, he continues to sit back and let her. But then in his next breath, he knows that he is falling in love with Katie? Hmmm… seems like that all could have been handled differently.
I did enjoy Natasha Queen’s descriptive language. She wrote a wonderful analogy on the weather in New Orleans! She writes well and her stories have a lot to offer. I will definitely read another one of her books. This one just didn’t sit real well for me.
I liked the heroine, Katie but I did not feel the same way about Max. Katie had been Max’s good fiend for many years and they were both invited to a wedding back in their hometown. Max had become a successful architect and Katie was becoming a success with her jewelry business and they hadn’t seen each other in years. They decided to pretend they were engaged and would go to the wedding together, an arrangement that had benefits for both of them. Being together again made Katie realize she still loved Max. However, Max’s old girlfriend Megan was also there and wanted Max back. Katie realized Max still had feelings for Megan and tried to get them back together so Max would be happy.
You will have to read the story to see how everyone finally reaches a HEA. Katie was selfless in her love and Max was clueless and didn’t realize how much she cared about him.
