In the new Eve Dallas police thriller from #1 New York Times-bestselling author J. D. Robb, what looked like a lover’s quarrel turned fatal has larger—and more terrifying—motives behind it… bashed in. But when Dallas tracks down the wealthy Upper East Side woman who called 911, the details don’t add up. Gwen Huffman is wealthy, elegant, comforted by her handsome fiancé as she sheds tears over the trauma of finding the body—but why did it take an hour to report it? And why is she lying about little things?
As Eve and her team look into Gwen, her past, and the people around her, they find that the lies are about more than murder. As with sculpture, they need to chip away at the layers of deception to find the shape within—and soon they’re getting the FBI involved in a case that involves a sinister, fanatical group and a stunning criminal conspiracy.

The In Death series is excellent. I highly recommend it. I’d love to see it made into a television series even though they wouldn’t do it justice.
This was a good, solid JD Robb book. It seemed to me to be a lot more of a police procedural and much less romance, but I think that’s true of all of the JD Robb books recently.
I love all JD Robb’s books. I have purchased most of them. You need to read them in order and they will scare you to death.
I have read the entire series up to and including the latest release. I give 5 Stars to all the books because the world Nora Roberts created is a wonderful place to visit.
I could’ve probably listened to this one straight through instead of only during my morning and afternoon commutes. What a story! The gang was back and in full force. Of course, Roarke was his usual lovely and helpful self (swoon). I have enjoyed this series for a long time, but the last several books have been especially good. Faithless was no exception. When I say she took it there-believe me! She took it there! I’ve read about some nasty criminal elements in the In Death series, but whew…this element sits right near the top. Dark and twisted yet fast-paced & fun- a five-star read all the way!
Always great fun and fantastic plotting
I have never been disappointed by a JD Robb yet. Always a good read .
There are some books that you know will stick in your head, they’re the books that are hard to read, the books that make you think, Faithless is one of those books.
I love Eve and Roarke, I make no bones about how I feel about this series, and Robb has no problem hitting hard subjects, this tackles several, and in careful, thoughtful ways, wrapped in a perfect Eve Dallas mystery. This could have gone completely off the rails, but instead Eve, Peabody band the NYPSD stayed on target, they had their goals, and there was so much garbage to wade through. While it would seem easy for everyone to forget the original victim, Eve never does.
And Roarke still has her button.
I love R,D. Robb have a lot of her books
I love the JD Robb series. Eve and Roarke are wonderful together and the story lines always keep me entertained. Fun “who done it?” series. I’ve read every book in the series and highly recommend this and other JD Robb (aka Nora Roberts) books.
Love all the …. I’m Death series. Eve Dallas and Roarke are phenomenal characters.
What’s not to love with Roark anEve? I purchase a J D Robb whenever they are on sale. Love the characters, the story line. Excellent stories, fun, fun reads. Love this author.
Eve and Roark are my favorite fictional couple– I just can’t get enough! I was so excited to get this book from Libby on its release day. The plot has intense themes of racial superiority , trafficking, twisted love and murder. I had to listen all in one go, The supporting characters had center stage and it was great to interact with them– though Roark played less of a role , the WOW factor was just as potent. A truly wonderful way to spend the afternoon. One of the best books in the series!
I want to tell the whole story but I won’t. I don’t do a synopsis because her stories deserve so much more. I love these characters as if they’re my friends. The plot was outstanding, but they all are. I don’t care what book you read by Robb/Roberts, all outstanding. Can’t wait to read the next installment.
To me Faithless in Death has been a return to form for JD Robb. With the last couple of books I’ve read them, then instantly forgotten them and never been tempted to go back for a re-read – an unusual occurrence for me. With this book I couldn’t make up my mind who I thought the murderer was and was kept guessing right up to end, not only who did it but the motive behind the crime so I’ll definitely be reading Faithless again to see what clues I’ve missed. With a misogynistic, sexist, racist cult – in fact throw in every form of ‘ist’ and I’m sure Stanton Wilkie and his merry men at Natural Order will be against it – what starts as a simple crime of passion soon turns out to be the tip of a iceberg that leads to something a whole lot sinister and malevolent. Where this book loses points with me though is the part I usually enjoy the most and this is when Dallas is interviewing her suspects after they’ve been caught. This time it just all felt a bit anti-climactic for me & fell flat leaving me feeling so disappointed. I just expected something more after such a good plot!
This was the first time I’ve listened to one of J.D. Robb’s books using audible instead of reading it and I don’t think I’ll be listening to anymore by this particular narrator. First of all she made the character of Dallas sound angry all the time. After I got a few chapters this didn’t bother me as much but I did struggle when she was voicing the other characters and found myself wincing a couple of times. For me it interrupted the flow and I had to to ‘rewind’ several times when I lost the thread of what was happening because I’d been distracted by the change in voice. I listen to audio books regularly and I know that some narrators can switch between characters, both male and female easily without any issues but this one just didn’t do it for me.
I can’t get enough of this series. There is some repetition here as there is always a new murder to sole for Eve, but she is a homicide detective. The inner workings of Eve’s mind is sometimes boggling. What I call Eveisms are present in each book and actually make me think! The bond she has with Roarke is strong and beautiful even though they are an unlikely match. We don’t see much of Mavis, but when she makes an appearance it’s like a visit from an old friend.
The crimes are usually horrific, but that’s what Eve is best at! I can’t wait for the next one.
You can’t possibly read an In Death book by JD Robb and miss out adjectives like ‘mag’ and ‘ult’ because that’s exactly what they are, and Faithless In Death is no different.
Once again we have Dallas and her band of merry men and women of NYPSD fighting injustice and bringing the ‘bad guys’ down!
As always she is supported by the usual, and growing, cast of additional characters that all make living in the future seem, almost, attractive – if it wasn’t for the crime!
For any JD Robb fans, you won’t want to miss the sometimes distressing storyline, but rest easy, as we all know that in the hands of Lieutenant Eve Dallas, justice will be well and truly served.
