Fairy World M.D., Boxed Set One (The Olive Kennedy Fantasy Romance Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
by Tamara Grantham
The Olive Kennedy series is what we would get if Kenneth Branagh was allowed to write an Urban Fantasy Romance novel.
There is something utterly delightful in these books. I don’t know it if it the near Shakespearean language of the Wults or the delightful heroine, but I like it! I like it a lot.
Olive is a doctor who specializes in people who have seen the magical world but have forgotten it, which causes extreme mental/psychological distress. She is called in when her own godson is trapped in the dreamworld. She needs to find what took him there and needs to get him back.
Ms. Grantham has a wonderful talent of downloading her universe without it bogging the story down. The heroine spells out most of the magic and mythology in short burst. We also get any and all background we need in small doses.
Ms. Grantham has a phenomenal talent with character creation. Whether it is a dragon or a little boy, she hits the nail on the head with their speech patterns. Continuing the Kenneth Branagh comparison, I could hear Sir Ian McKellan’s voicing the Sky King and Ruby Rose would not be out of place to play as Olive.
The novels move a decent clip, which resulted in at least one sleepless night of “Just one more chapter”.
I recommend this book for a change from the rest of the fairy/faerie realm portal fantasies as well as a break from the current lot of fantasy romances.

Enjoyed the world that was built by Ms. Grantham and the characters; especially the interplay between them.
Very original!
Really good read. I enjoyed all the characters. Ready for another!
I really love this series. Characters are described so well they leap from the pages complete with complex personality and charm. Lots of action and an underlying message that damage to one world in the fantasy realms affects all the rest
The dragons are not at all like those of Pern. Some are benevolent, some omnivores, but none have a human mindset. The otherworldly world and it’s peoples are strange and alien. Awesome world building!
I look forward to reading more
Great story. It was a fast pace and I read all three back to back never bored. I’m ready for the next three.
I just devoured these books. Extremely hard to put down, but when I had to I found I could pick right back up in the midst of the action and immediately be there. The characters are numerous and well developed. Many plots and twists, sparks flying, tension, fantasy, romance, all well done. It’s everything I love and none of what I find intrusive. I don’t want to give away any of the wonderful surprises in these books, so I have to restrain my review. I can say that there is beauty and fantasy despite violence and danger. It will set your imagination on fire and leave you satisfied and yet wanting more. Though these books stand well on their own, I had to return and buy then next in the series and am not sorry! I will definitely look for more from this author!
There are times you just do not won’t to put the book down, have to turn the next page
I really enjoyed reading this boxed set. The main character, Olive, isn’t what you’d expect for a hero. A med student who doesn’t do an internship and is going to heal folks? Well, mentally. She specializes in mental problems caused by visiting the fairy world and has trouble because of no memory of the event but has fragments that create mental anomalies.
Olive turns out to be more than suspected. Even when you are reading the portion between action it’s Interesting?
There is mention of a Renn Fest. I have been to a few of Texas renn fest. Although the author has some of the action taking place in the festival area she doesn’t bore the reader with tedious descriptions.
Just lovely
i just loved these books. cant wait to read box set 2
Had to buy the next box set when I finished.
Thoroughly enjoyed the first three books, will follow on with others as I am hooked. Great characters, good pace, a good way to position the mundane with a world of magic, explaining some myths throughout the ages.
Loved it will read the next set
FANTASTIC paranormal book set!!!!!
What can I say about this boxed set that the description hasn’t already?
If you are a fan of Ilona Andrews, this is definitely a series for you. It is riddled with the same kind of snark and ass-kickery as found in their stories, but given a whole new world and voice to roam in.
Olive Kennedy understands life, love, magic, and heroics all in her own way and at her own pace. In the short story, Mirror Box, you get some sense of how different she really is. As a therapist with a very unique clientele, you get to understand the more fantastic elements of her job in Dreamthief. In Spellweaver, you get the heartbreaking truth about what it means to save the world. And in Bloodthorn, a few new eyes get opened to the realities surrounding our own.
This series has mystery, action, romance, and a bit of snarky reality ready to kick your teeth in. What’s not to love?
This boxed set encompasses volumes #1 to 3 in the Olive Kennedy, Fairy World MD series, and includes the bonus prequel Mirror Box. The before story actually details a short but intense encounter that Olive has with some Wults, who later prove quite important to her. None of them remember anything about it though, due to the nature of the situation. As is the case throughout these books, magic plays a major role in things.
Book #1, Dreamthief, is perma-free on most major eBook retailers, which is how I came to try it. The plot is a very different and creative take on the fairy realm. The world-building that occurs in this novel is very adept, both in terms of Olive’s personal sphere and the worlds around her at large. It really sets the stage for the following volumes.
There’s a lot of mystery, intrigue, suspense and drama, not to mention fantasy creatures (each with their own unique kind of magic), and several diverse personalities to deal with throughout the tales. There’s also a dash of romance, but not nearly as much as I would have preferred. In fact, one of the main things that I disliked about these particular tomes of the series is the extended breakup of two prominent players.
The writer truly hones her art as things progress though, telling an ever more involved and intricate tale. There are a lot of twists and turns, and not everything goes the way you would imagine. But it usually comes down to Olive kicking-butt and taking names, while leaving just enough open-ended questions to warrant the next story.
DREAMTHIEF
I started off with really getting into the book, but I felt at times that it was a little long and drawn out when I read it the first time around, and I thought I should read it again and so I did. Yes, there were some drawn out parts but I overlooked them because the action that took place made the book extremely interesting and addicting. I felt that the characters in the story were strong and the story-line was awesome. Like I said, the action did keep me in suspense. I loved the main character in the story. She was courageous and I was drawn to her straight from the beginning. I absolutely loved how the story started out. As a matter of fact the beginning is what sucked me into this twisted world of Faythander. The other characters in the story were awesome too. I absolutely loved how the character was able to help the patients in the beginning. I laughed, cried, and made me mad at times in this story, like the character could even get a break. I also thought that the story was predictable and I had some of it figured out before I even finished the book. This author did a fantastic job of writing the story all in all and I really want to read it a third time, but I know I need to move on. It is well written and a story I won’t forget anytime soon. It is a MUST READ story and I highly recommend it.
The author has a mystical and magical way of luring you into the story and keeping you from wanting to put the book down despite the drawn out parts. All in all, it’s a fun read.
SPELLWEAVER
I fell absolutely in love with book one with the fun and comedy that brought my attention to this author. This book didn’t have as much comedy to draw me in but it does have an awesome plot with some surprising twists and turns throughout the story.
This book started right off where book one left off and I love how the author can bring these words on the pages alive and keep us on the edge of our seats the entire ride!!
Wow, what a wild ride this story was!! The author covered a lot in this book. We found out more about Olive Kennedy in this story and quite a shocker about her…..mother………
There were many original characters along with some new characters. We get to know more about her dad and her love for Kull is stronger than ever in this story. There were moments when I was shocked and in awe at some of the scenes. I really didn’t know these shocking events were even coming. You go along reading and BAM you get hit with a shocker and my mouth was left hanging open in horror. It’s an amazingly well written story for everybody to enjoy. I highly recommend it.
BLOODTHORN
This story is by far my favorite one out of this series so far. It’s mysterious, magical, and quite the page turner. There were also surprises lurking around every corner too. This book had a lot of suspense, and I loved the power, strength and how courageous Olive became since the beginning of the series and I absolutely loved the new and improved Olive in this story. She showed her fear and yet, learned to not take crap from nobody. Olive actually scared me in this story. I highly recommend this story to all to enjoy. It’s full of so much compassion and surprises that it will make keep turning page after page from beginning to end. I am very anxious to read more about Olive and her adventures that I know are yet to come.
A wonderful series that leaves you wondering what will happen next. Olive is a girl that travels between worlds and the two worlds are not really compatible. She gets caught in situations that leave her adrift at times. For fantasy lovers, this series is a great read that is suitable for most ages.
I love this series! The action is great and the world building is fantastic! The characters are very relatable and I can’t say enough great things about these books!
