Mirror, mirror on the wall,Who is the fairest of them all? Fans of the Lunar Chronicles know Queen Levana as a ruler who uses her “glamour” to gain power. But long before she crossed paths with Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress, Levana lived a very different story – a story that has never been told . . . until now. Marissa Meyer spins yet another unforgettable tale about love and war, deceit and death. … love and war, deceit and death. This extraordinary book includes full-color art and an excerpt from Winter, the next book in the Lunar Chronicles series.

Because I have a clear disrespect for bedtimes and the idea that I might have to get up early and accomplish something tomorrow, I sat down and in about 3 1/2 hours [I was distracted by life at different points] and read this whole thing in one sitting. And WHAT a read it was. WOW. I …
You know how there are villains we love to hate? Or just plain love? Yeah, Levana isn’t one of them. Sure, she’s been abused both emotionally and physically, and this story does its best to make you feel for her, but at the end you still hate her. This book excellently shows how you can feel bad for somebody but not forgive them for what they did …
It shows you Levana’s point of view, and helps you understand why she is the way she is.
Queen Levana’s story is AMAZING! I enjoyed the glimpse into Queen Levana’s history. I was immediately immersed into the story. It is well written and nicely paced. This novel was hard to put down.
Recommend to those who enjoy young adult SCI-FI.
I borrowed a copy from my local library. All views expressed are my honest opinion.
Astonishingly good and deeply disturbing. I have never read a book from the villain’s point of view before and it was, in a word, appalling. The justification, the excuses, the evil plans, even when knowing they are wrong—talk about narcissism in overdrive. I mean, the whole family is straight-up evil, but Levana takes it to a whole new level. …
Not a comfortable read, but deeply fascinating. Explorations of the antagonist character rarely satisfy, but this one did. Meyers manages to show the humanity in an eminently unlikeable character without flinching over the qualities that make her unlikeable. You won’t necessarily sympathize with Levana, but you’ll understand her better by the end.
This is book 3.5 of the Lunar Chronicles series and we follow our main villain Levana’s past and how did she became the evil queen as she is in the present. This book is required to read before you head to Winter so you don’t get confused later on. There will be mild spoilers, so if you haven’t read the previous three books, get out before you get …
After reading Cress, I wasted no time jumping into this long-awaited backstory into the life of the Wicked Queen, aka Levana. I can barely find the right words to describe how much I enjoyed this book. I’m so afraid of giving away spoilers that I’m purposefully making this a short review.
I will say that, dang is this woman’s life messed up. She …
When a book in a series as amazing as the lunar chronicles, it is amazing to have a book like this that made me say wow, I don’t know how she did it she made me feel something i didn’t expect for charachters i had strong opinions about. That is some writing magic!
Marissa Meyer is amazing! It took me a long time to read this one even though I knew I had to read it in order to understand the rest of the series. However complicated an individual Levana is, this book truly gives very thorough understanding of her character.
I love a good prequel and this one didn’t disappoint. The Lunar Chronicles are one of my favorite YA series, and this was a great one to read last. (I think it was written as book 4, but I read it 5th). I was amazed after reading the other four books and hating Queen Levana with a passion that Marissa Meyer could make me feel so sorry for Princess …
I loved it
Quite a bit darker than the others in the series, but explains a lot of the history.
This book is a must read for fans of the Lunar Cronicles. It sheds some light on the villain in the series, Levana, giving her backstory on how she became Queen of the Lunars and what sacrifices she had to make to get there. This is definatly a page turner that will be difficult to put down.
This story is about Queen Levana. It’s a short story to give her background. Even with what happened to her I still hate her lol.
Review This is a great look into the world of the Queen, allowing us to see her from a different angle. Although the story tells us the story of how she came to be, and I was hoping that it would, but I think in all due honesty it made me dislike the queen even more. haha Great novella, can’t wait to read more from Ms. Meyer love her writing and …
Part of the Lunar Chronicles series, Fairest gives the back story for the evil queen. It puts the rest of the series in perspective after seeing her twisted life!
While reading this book, I felt some sympathy for Levana…until the end. It’s easy to see that she had to put up with a lot more than she should have at a rather young age. But with all of life’s challenges, it’s not what you go through, but how you come through them that matters. Levana could have taken a different route, I do think she had love …
Nice to read why the queen was the way she was but still….
