Truth or dare?
Good English families all have a house in the country with a deer park, a trout stream, and an army of gardeners. They should have a son and if it can be managed, he should be handsome. Cleverness isn’t important. Daughters in limited quantities are fine so long as they are pretty. Bastards are inconvenient and best ignored. It’s not a big problem, unless you are one.

Unfortunately, Sophy is.
Sick of her outcast role, she escapes her father’s house, only to fall from her horse during a spring storm. Injured, soaked, and shivering, she stumbles to a stranger’s door — Tom, a blunt edged merchant from a family of vulgar upstarts. Mistaking Sophy for the genuine article, he takes her in.
Sophy can’t resist twisting the truth. Soon she’s caught in her own snare — and it might just be a noose.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well developed and the story grabbed you from the beginning and didn’t let go.
Great prose, richly portrayed characters and spot on research. Can’t wait for book no. 3 in the series!
Typical regency romance with a unique plot.
When Sophy’s mother Fanny dies, Sophy is shipped off to live with her natural father, along with his wife Georgiana, son Jasper, and daughter Henrietta. Talk about awkward! But ten year old Sophy is a delightful girl who makes friends with Jasper and Henrietta. It is not until Sophy is seventeen that her life changes again. Georgiana has finally …
I read from the author notes that she had been inspired by Georgette Heyer. I have read almost all of Heyer’s books and this author had definitely caught the concept from her.
I knew this was a romance but I didn’t expect the pleasant read I ended up with. I’m so happy I took a chance on this book! The way the story builds is just the right length of time to help you get to know the main characters pretty well and allow you to see what drives them. The setting and the plot are both believable and it’s super easy to put …
I don’t know why they mention a noose in the blurb. Nothing life-threatening going on. Just a little white lie that got out of hand.
I read a number or reviews, and almost didn’t read this because of them. I think many were a bit unfair. After all, this is a light little regency romp, not a literary work. One reads these for fun, and if they …
The heroine is a wonderful charm and we know where she’ll end up with her happily ever after, but there are plenty of obstacles and it’s fun to see her get through them all to end up where she should be.
Loved the book. Definitely a page-turner
Jaima Fixen can’t write fast enough for me … LOVE her writing. LOVE her books.
A romantic book about a girl who goes to live with her rich father after her mother dies. I don’t usually like these kind of books this well but it is well written
I liked that an illegitimate child was accepted and even loved by the man’s wife and other children.
Just loved this book. All the ingredients for a good regency romance. It was so good I bought the next two.
Liked this very much
It seems the best historical English romances feature a commoner struggling to fit in or find love with an aristocrat. This novel has not just one commoner but two and both characters are delightful. In particular, Sophy, the heroine, is a wonderful combination of grit and naivete. The story line is creative, well-planned and well-executed. The …
This first book was good enough that I will complete the series.
I really enjoyed this book
Couldn’t put it down
Insightful, slow-paced, and filled with a love of family even though they may be difficult at times.
A good book to read on a rainy day
