Truth or dare?
Good English families all have a house in the country with a deer park, a trout stream, and an army of gardeners. They should have a son and if it can be managed, he should be handsome. Cleverness isn’t important. Daughters in limited quantities are fine so long as they are pretty. Bastards are inconvenient and best ignored. It’s not a big problem, unless you are one.
…
Unfortunately, Sophy is.
Sick of her outcast role, she escapes her father’s house, only to fall from her horse during a spring storm. Injured, soaked, and shivering, she stumbles to a stranger’s door — Tom, a blunt edged merchant from a family of vulgar upstarts. Mistaking Sophy for the genuine article, he takes her in.
Sophy can’t resist twisting the truth. Soon she’s caught in her own snare — and it might just be a noose.

This lovely story is definitely a bit different to others in the Regency romance genre. The characters were believable, with their thought processes exposed to the reader. The storyline was unusual – a view of life from the perspective of the natural daughter of a member of the aristocracy and how she is ‘sort of’ accepted by her natural father …
I just couldn’t get interested in this book
This was a nice read. The characters were well defined and the plot kept me interested throughout. Very clean romance with the usual trials and tribulations. The characters would have benefited by a little more depth, but not bad for a regency romance.
I couldn’t decide if it was a 3 or 4 star but I really like the writing and style of this book and did enjoy it even tho there were things that I wanted different. This had some great characters. I read the third book in this series first and so knew some of them already and reading more about them was great. I so enjoy that this is a family story …
Good read
not to my taste, only made it through the first couple of chapters. Too much description of scenery and not enough getting into the story. Sorry
Loved it
Keeps reader involved. You really like the characters
This book would appeal to people who do not like a nice book to relax to. It drives me crazy when things are constantly ruined because of misunderstandings, and that would be the case for a great deal of this book. It does end quite nicely, but the road there is very aggravating.
Grateful to be living in the present as a woman in this time of history unlike men of the time could be “spoiled” or “damaged” for marriage possibilities. Men were given free reign as long as they did not cross too many lines. One had to have connections to “make a good marriage.” This did not guarantee a life of love or being desired by one’s …
a pleasant well written regency type book.
I listened to the story. The story had unusual characters who had their own problems. The story of the little girl seemed secondary some of the time.
This was a good book. Characters were developed the issues were real for the setting .
I very much enjoyed this book. The only reason I gave it a 4 was that the ending was a bit abrupt and not quite as well developed an the rest of the book.
I skip the “steamy” parts and am frustrated by unnecessary crude language. I want clean dialogue and moral characters.
(Did not finish) I started this on vacation hoping to be whisked away to another time and place but I felt like I was being told a story rather than entering the story. I was mildly curious about the plot by I just wasn’t drawn to the characters.
DEPRESING
Enjoyed this medical thriller.
Not your typical happily ever after story. Sophy is the heroine and she cuts a new groove in the definition of heroine in the Victorian era.
