“It’s pure new adult at its finest.” -Southern Belle Book Blog A USA TODAY bestseller! When you become the poker prize, all bets are off…Jade Frost thought she was going on a date with her boyfriend–not to his poker game. She really didn’t expect that weasel to throw her in the pot. Then he had the nerve to lose. Talk about the perfect excuse for Jade to make him her ex-boyfriend. She wasn’t … perfect excuse for Jade to make him her ex-boyfriend. She wasn’t quick enough, though. Before she knows it, a frat boy wins the hand–and her.
Shep Prescott is extremely handsome and richer than sin, but he doesn’t own her. It was just a game, after all.
No matter how disinterested she acts, no matter how rudely she rejects his advances, he keeps coming back. Maybe even more than before.
He could have anything he wants, but she’s the only prize he’s after. When she finds herself starting to fall for him, Jade’s confused. There’s more to Shep than the carefree player he shows the world.
So is he ready to win her for real, or will she call his bluff?

I assumed it would take a while to warm up to Shep because of the premise, but it was the opposite. He was immediately likeable and fun, but Jade was pretty hard to take. She was too rude and immature to win me over and for a lot of the story, my feelings towards her weren’t improving. But the more I thought about it, the more realistic she seemed. After all, she’s a nineteen year-old college freshman with minimal experience and Shep is from a completely different world. He’s older, rich, popular and a known player, so why would she take him seriously? It made sense that Jade thought he was using her but still struggled with her attraction to this gorgeous man. If she’d warmed up to him quicker, that would’ve made her a pushover.
This was a fun read and I loved the storyline. The fact that I liked Shep despite his callous behavior when they met was a nice surprise. The author created a guy worthy of a HEA right from the start. He did make mistakes, particularly one huge one, but he was so caught off guard by wanting this woman, his fears were understandable. That doesn’t excuse the way he hurt her, but he definitely made up for it, proving himself to her multiple times. I enjoyed Jade and Shep’s story very much and will probably check out the rest of the series.
Yay it’s over
If I wanted to read about a 21 and 19 year old I’d pick up a Regency. He’s a rich jerk and she’s a neurotic basket case. Being in her head hurt mine and his was okay but very entitled.
This books has it all. Great characters, frirbidden romance, told in dual points of view and keeps you on your toes. Jade thinks she’s going onna date with her boyfriend but instead she ends up at a poker game. What she never sees xom I ng is hum putting her up imnthe pot as a bet. And then losing. Doesn’t take long for him to be me her ex but then first boy Shep wins thr game and her. He’s a rich good looking playboy and there just no way he can think he owns her after all. This guy could have anything he wanted but he wants Jade. I loved watching the two of them get closer and him actually desecing her attention!! This is one you dont want to miss
Loved the story!! Can’t wait to read other books by this author…
Enjoyed the way this was written in dual POV. The more she didn’t want him, the more he wanted her. It was good to read about a strong female would could get a player to change his tune…that he really wanted her. Good ending.
loved reading
This is a nice diversion, easy to read, though there were some cringe-worthy moments, the characters were strong enough to keep me reading. Recommended for fans of the genre.
I enjoyed the characters in this book.
This book hooked me right from the get go. Dual pov, dark, taboo, forbidden, hot, well written, oh so good. Could not put down until I was finished.
You ever read a book that you read years ago and you realize it wasn’t AT ALL as great as you thought it was when you first read it?
Yea that is NOT THE CASE WITH THIS BOOK. I read this when it came out years ago. This book/series actually got me into new adult and made me fall in love with the book community. So thank you to this author for helping me become who I am today. This book was just as amazing as it was years ago. But this time instead of reading it, I listened to the audio. And it was FANTASTIC. I was just as hooked like it was the first time reading it. I loved Shep and Jade just as much as I did the first time. The sex was awesome, the love/hate in the beginning between them was so believable. Not to mention the narrators did such a great job! Seraphine Valentine and Jack Dupont were so perfect for the roles of Shep and Jade, I will definitely be listening to more of them in the future. And the audio was so long! 12 hours, I didnt realize the book was that long. I cant wait to listen to the rest of the books next! I just love this author. 5 stars!
Jade and Shep…
Their story is crazy and an rollercoaster
Rich boy meet broke girl..
It’s not her choice to be there but Jade her boyfriend takes her to this gambling place… another worst that can happen, happened she was the bet…
Boys should know better right? Never put your girl up to win your game…
That’s asking for trouble…
And Jade is in big trouble…
It was such an easy and fun read, it’s adult romance with explicit sexy smutty scenes .
Loved it!!!
I like it make me spend a good easy time but not really realistic
Won in a poker game, she eventually wins his heart.
I did not feel there was much of a story here. This was just two college kids having a lot of sex.
Ended abruptly. Should have a sequel.
I enjoyed it. Original plot that was funny at times but also took a serious look at issues that effect all those standing on the threshold of adulthood. Twenty somethings can easily identify with many of the issues presented in the text and hopefully gain an understanding that they are not alone with all the miriad of decisions facing them
You will love this book. Different than most shifter books
After reading and enjoying ‘One week girlfriend’ and ‘Second chance boyfriend’ I decided to read another book from Monica Murphy. This time I choose ‘Fair game’, it’s the first book of ‘The Rules’ series.
And yes, this is another new adult book like there are so many others out there but I really liked it. Just like Drew Callihan from ‘One week girlfriend’, Shep Prescott has something vulnerable that I really like. Monica Murphy knows how to write her guys.
Shep Prescott is a man whore there’s no question about it. But it’s not his fault that he comes from a rich family, that he’s handsome and that all the girls on campus want to have sex with him. Well, not all the girls, there’s one girl that wants nothing to do with him. Her name is Jade Frost and the more that she rejects him, the more Shep wants her. But he soon realizes that Jade could be dangerous to him. Because she makes him feel things he has never felt before.
Jade Frost is mad. Not only on her now ex-boyfriend but also on Shep Prescott. How dare he makes a bet with her boyfriend about her. But the more time they spend together the more Jade has to confess that maybe she’s also one of those girls that fall for Shep Prescott.
But Shep confuses her too, she has never heard before that Shep spends so much time with a girl. Could it be that they share something special? Or is he just playing with her?
The story is told from both POV’s what I really liked. Normally I’m not a big fan of the man being a man whore in my stories but with Shep it didn’t bother me. Once he sees Jade, she’s all that he can think about. A fact that I applauded. I love stories where we can see how a character changes their ‘bad’ ways for love and that’s what Shep did for Jade. Jade was also a lovable character, she had her insecurities about her body and other things but they weren’t too big to distract me from the story. In fact those insecurities made her just more likable to me. In this story we also get to meet Shep’s nephew Tristan and his best friend Grade. Two characters that we can read more about in the following books in the series. They both intrigued me enough to want me to read their stories too.
This was the first time I’ve read this author.
Wow! I ended up loving the story of Jade and Shep! I didn’t like him in the beginning but as he developed I really liked him! I’m glad he didn’t go the a-hole route, and made him lovable!!! Jade, yes she was naive at times but that’s what makes her very relatable.
I really enjoyed the writing style, the storyline, and the characters!
I can’t wait to read the others in the series for Gabe and Tristan! While I was reading this book, I was like I hope there’s a book for those two!
