Chosen. Cursed. Enslaved.
Fae just wants to live day to day. She doesn’t want to think about a future filled with another two thousand years of servitude. She doesn’t want to think about her past, or the way she failed the goddess she swore to serve forever. And she really doesn’t want to think about the men and women that suffer around her every day while she can’t protect them – no matter how … them – no matter how hard she tries.
She’s definitely not ready when her entire world is turned upside down and the one person she would never choose to spend a minute with shows up.
After millennia of suffering, is it even possible to trust someone? To let herself believe that good still exists?
Damned. Cursed. Corrupted.
Kiernan doesn’t know what he wants. After centuries of bloodshed, and war, and killing – he’s waking up, and if the things he dreams in his sleep were only nightmares that would be one thing, but they’re all real.
The only light in his darkness is a girl inside a glass, and he can’t stop watching her. Her bravery fascinates him, inspires him. Her suffering is what he deserves.
Yet some part of him craves more, craves something good. But is there anything that can be done when gods have used you as pawns in their own war? Can good things come out of evil?
NOTE: Fae is the first book in the Daughters of Eltera series. It contains dark themes, slavery, violence, damaged heroes, and gods and goddesses.

I enjoyed this new take on a PN and can’t wait to read the next book. There are a few spots where it slows down but a great spin on a PN read. This book isnt nearly as dark as t hff e author’s other works so if the description “dark” puts one off a book read this.

I absolutely love Jennifer Bene but I hesitated reading this one since I’m not really a fan of paranormal. But it seems I was really missing out on this amazing story and should have read it a long time ago!
Introduced world wasn’t too over the top and characters were god-touched to make them immortal warriors but othervise like humans.
Although I thought the book was slow at first, I actually appreciated such detailed world building.
Fae was simply an amazing character, so feisty, brave and strong. And still protective of others weaker than herself even after enduring 2000 years of slavery. I absolutely loved the connection between her and Kiernan, and they were truly a perfect match. Kiernan was not what I expected but I instantly fell in love with him. I was moved by his tragic past and was so glad he found happiness he deserved. Ms Bene did an amazing job with these two characters and I can’t wait to read about other daughters of Eltera!
Wow I loved this book! Naela and Keiran are such superbly written characters. The story is strong and brutal but is so rich in detail that it submerges you straight away and drags you alone it’s intriguing path. Didn’t want to put it down.
Loved it so much. Can’t recommend highly enough!
This series grabbed me from the start. I do enjoy a well written fantasy and this is no disappointment. The world we encounter, while very similar to ours, includes beings and gods that are no longer considered relevant in our day and age. These wonderful characters are well represented. I loved the way the story builds, you are biting your nails just hoping there will be a way that Fae/Neala and Kiernan can overcome the impossible contradictions of their love.
Well since there IS a book 2….
Strong characters and a strong story line make this an outstanding start to a new series. Great world building and plot development in this one sets the stage for future stories. The dark is strong in this book and there are definitely triggers so beware. But the strength, courage and faith of the main characters overcomes and they get the HEA they so richly deserve. I can’t wait for the next one.
This is a fantastic fantasy tale! I don’t normally read fantasy, so to experience the world that this author has created was great. First, there was enough description and backstory that I didn’t feel lost. Second, there was lots of time to get the know the characters, Fae and Kiernan, individually before they actually meet face-to-face. The writing was superb and put me right where the characters were. There is a classic good vs evil vibe here, with themes of redemption, survival, and love. There were parts that made me sad and scared, made me smile, and ultimately, happy for the hard fought ending they deserved.
I am voluntarily reviewing this book.
Wow. What a fantastic story. I almost did not read this because I do not read paranormal but I love the author’s writing and had to give it a try. I am glad I did. This is a great book and will be a great series with Fae (Neala) trying to find her sisters and saving them. Believe it or not this is a HEA. Enjoy this great story.
PNR has always been my go to books. And this first book in this series was amazing. The characters and storyline were amazing. Such a well written book.
Fae is a very well written book by Jennifer Bene.
I was very impressed with this book and the storyline.
Fae is a fighter, chosen to defend her kind from darkness and bring peace to the land.
Kiernan & Fae should be enemies after Kienan, and his brother defeated Fae and made her and her sister’s slaves, but attraction and years of sexy games were fun to read.
I love how strong Fae is, even though her situation is out of her hands she is protecting the ones she loves.
I was fascinated with the whole world that was created by the author, so many details, wonderful characters, amazing scenes; I wish this book could be a movie PG 15 of course haha.
I highly recommend this book.
5 Stars!
War vs Peace, Strong vs Weak, Pain vs Pleasure, Slave vs Master, Love vs Hate, Past vs Present, Mortals vs Immortals. This story took me ethereally and visually to places I never imagined I’d journey.
There were fairies and pixies and immortals. There were slaves and masters and curses. There was real pain and mystical healing and my emotions were stretched almost to the breaking point as I empathized with slaves and a disillusioned warrior. The cruelty tormented me, and the love that slowly grew between two supposedly divergent souls astounded me. The intricacies within the storyline, itself, are sheer genius. I am so glad this is book 1, and there will be more.
I do love a good paranormal romance; especially one as comprehensive in the world building as Jennifer Bene’s “Fae”.
Likes: Did I mention the world building? Because the attention to detail in this story was what kept me tapping those pages as quickly as my finger would comply. The depth of the characters helped to shape the story and I found myself becoming emotionally invested in the characters succeeding and mourning…well…yea. Bad stuff happens too. But fear not, this IS a romance and yes, we do have a happily ever after and in this story, that’s an incredibly long time.
Fae is the first book of a new series. It is a story about gods and those chosen by the gods, but in the end it is a story about strenght, not giving up hope, doing what you
believe in and love. Finding the one who makes everything better. A very powerful story.
