He is desperate to remember. She will destroy everything to forget.
Konnor: Up until now, my life has been a mirage of sorts. Of dark, lonely places. Of bourbon and women. I don’t care. I think I’m pretty happy really. But then she happens. . .
Blesk: He wants me. He’ll do anything, drop everything, to have me. But when he uncovers who I am and what I’ve done, he’ll rue ever facing me.I’ve … and what I’ve done, he’ll rue ever facing me.
I’ve already buried everything he loves. . .
We both have secrets. Mine are harrowing. His, heart-breaking. Just merely being together threatens to expose everything we have tried to escape.
Will finally facing our past bring us peace. . . or spark chaos?

Facing Us is Nicci Harris’s duet novel and the first book in THE KIDS OF THE DISTRICT series. This book features a damaged hero and a sweet yet witty heroine. Both main characters will fight for each other. Expect flashbacks, abuse, and difficult subjects. It is a love story first. Drama and mystery second. Word porn third. Enjoy.

Nothing about this book was what I thought it would be. From the beginning this book gives you scenarios that slowly start to make sense as the book continues, there’s a bit of a mystery within the book and there’s a lot of different facets of each of their lives that unfold as we read. Shocking revelations at one point of this book all happening together which made me sit up and go hello, we have a storyline that is compelling. Adoring the fact that this book is Australian, the background is well described without too much Aussie specific dialect therefore it feels Australian without needing a translator to understand it. Feeling compelled to find out everything about this meanwhile I was wary of the trigger warnings, the forewarning was helpful in certain regards. The District is still a slight enigma to me and I’m hoping that the future books give us some more insight behind the curtain so to say. Doubtlessly a story I won’t soon forget, these characters have carved out a place in my harem. Blesk’s journey to find herself apart from her past is incredibly admirable and Konnor’s strength to guide her along the way is what true love is about. Konnor and Blesk are definitely book harem material including how Konnor is entertaining us in mine!!
Konnor and Blesk meet and fall in love, but not so fast. These two have past traumas and nothing is ever easy. This is a book full of angst, violence, rape, and other horrors that they have endured. The characters are wonderful and you just feel the pain and their pasts. I could not put this book down once I started. This is one of those books that just gets to you. I am all in for the second book. I thought this is a fabulous book.

This is the 1st book I’ve read written by Nicci Harris; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the characters.

There are some dark themes in this book so be aware of that if you have triggers. I like how it’s told from more than one point of view. It can be confusing at times with the flashbacks etc. but it’s a good read. I haven’t read anything from this author before and I was glad that I chose to read this book.

I went in blind – I didn’t read the blurb, trigger warnings or reviews of the book. It surpasses all of my expectations, the suspense, the twists, the revelations, the character development and the writing Facing Us is the first book of the Kids of The District series, written in ‘dual’ perspective.
I was hooked from page one and loved every single chapter. We are told about The Family and then fast forward to present, Blesk is attending orientation at uni. She meets Konnor, a popular, attractive, humorous rugby player/tutor. She is captivated by him from the very first look. On the front, they couldn’t be more opposite. Blesk is small, quiet and shy, while Konnor is muscular, loud and confident. But they have one thing in common – a dark, tragic, unspeakable past.
I absolutely adore Blesk and Konnor, as well as Liz and Deakon. They dealt a bad hand in life and struggled as they grew up. It is hard for an outsider to understand what they had been through, and they dealt with pain in their own ways. When the truth unveils, they seek comfort from one another, they lean on one another and they take care of one another… physically, mentally and emotionally. You just hope they’d stop hurting and that things will work out for them
And of course, how can I miss Jax and Elise? They are the best mates you could ever ask for. Unconditional support, no questions asked even though Blesk and Konnor act like psychos sometimes. They are there for them from the beginning, and they stayed throughout the whole journey as Blesk and Konnor overcome their pasts and learn to embrace their present. This is such a beautifully written story, I am diving right into the duet so I can start Her Way asap
5+ Read!!!
Nicci Harris is a genius! I cannot believe this was her debut novel! I accidentally read books 2 and 3 before this book. Even knowing some things from the other books, Nicci still took me on an epic ride. Blesk and Konnor’s story was just so heartbreaking. Especially Blesk. She went through so much in her life. I could feel their brokenness. But their love is so pure and so all consuming. I felt like I was walking an emotional tightrope almost the entire time, and I loved it. I will tell you that there were plenty of times throughout where I wanted to shake Blesk and Konnor for some of their decisions, but given the trauma they both survived, it actually made sense that they didn’t always make the best choices. Plus it added beautifully to the angst. I devoured this book within 24 hours to my husband’s chagrin, but I just had to know what happens next. The intrigue had me on pins and needles. And the chemistry and build up to when they finally got together was *chef’s kiss* perfection. I cannot wait for book 4 of this series. Do yourself a favor and read these books! You will not regret it
Please pay special attention to the trigger warnings in this book. There are some very dark topics discuses and acts perpetrated.

Nicci Harris is truly such a phenomenal author , after reading Facing Us , it is so hard to believe that this was her Debut novel . I don’t remember enjoying a book as much a I did this one , in a very long time . I literally downloaded this series and devoured it in about three days straight . This is a contemporary romance , as well as a Dark romance two of my very favorite tropes . Blesk and Connor are such amazing characters , Their story was so heartbreaking and emotional . Blesk went though so much in her life . Connor has not had a easy life either , but the love they have for one another is not only pure but truly inspiring. So many times I wanted to yell and scream at them , but other times I coujd not help by root for them . There is so much angst , as well as beauty and emotion in this book . It was truly phenomenal
This is a dark, mysterious love story I didn’t want to put down. Blesk & Konnor give me all. the. feels. Damaged, broken main characters seem to be my favorite. The chemistry & love between these two was palpable. Both characters have suffered a lot of tragedy in their past & their resilience is inspiring. I’m really looking forward to the next two books in this series & hopefully getting answers to all the questions I have.
Wow…my mind is in a whirlwind. So many thoughts are spinning around my head. Korean and Blesk have had so much happen to them apart as well as together. I am so happy they are on their way to their HEA. Trying to see how I can convey what I want without spoiling anything. One thing I do want to say is there are so many thing going on in Facing Us that it is just WOW!! Facing Us is a very intense and full of twists, turns, things going sideways, ups, downs, emotions, surprises, revelations, drama, and lots of lots of heat. I loved reading Facing Us but just a warning there are a lot of triggers and if you do have any this book is not for you. This a very twisted and dark romance. This is the first time I have read Nicci Harris, author. Nicci is a new dark romance writer and she did have an introduction where she explains what you can expect from her books. Nicci definitely delivered. I was not disappointed on all counts of the expectations. Next up in the Kids of the District Series is Our Thing. I am definitely looking forward to reading all about Max and Cassidy (Korran’s sister). Highly recommend Facing Us and the Kids of District Series. Happy reading!
Dark read with a lot of triggers. Kidnapping, child abuse, abandonment, violence. Mysteries and secrets make it difficult for Blesk and Konnor. There story is full of twists and turns. Expect the unexpected. A well written story with string developed characters
I really enjoyed this book! It was so much more than dark romance. It has suspense and mystery as well. The character development was on point. I can’t wait to read the next installment!
