There’s something in the darkness, and it’s watching her… Lacey Madison wants to be like every other teenager. She wants to wave to her best friend, and have him wave back. She wants to kiss a boy, and for him to stay in town. She wants to go to school, and not be accused of murder. But bad things are always happening around her, and in this dusty little desert town, nothing is what it seems. … nothing is what it seems. Lacey’s entire life has been leading to something, and those eyes in the desert darkness hold all the answers.

Lacey has had one doozy of a rough life. Pretty much if something bad can happen it totally does. This comes along with quite a few people being nasty to her as well. This has made her very anxious to leave town once she graduates if she can make it that far. To shake things up the guys she grew up with return determined to make her believe in crazy things. Life forces her to see the truth though taking her along for a doozy of a ride I must say. A great beginning to a slow burn RH that wets your appetite while leaving you craving more. A great mix of two of my fave authors. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
Wow – Proserpina and Royce are a terrific team, and have created a dark and addictive story. Lacey is basically the town pariah – everyone hates her, and she owns her reputation as the bad girl, even when it is unjustified. She is a loner, and when her two old friends show up, and the new neighbors show and interest her world is turned upside down. The story has a Supernatural, creepy feel – especially since I was reading it at night 🙂 I liked that the guys were protective, but supportive of Lacey. The story does end on a suspenseful, kind of heartbreaking, note. I hope we don’t have to wait too long for book 2 – and I hope we get to see more of the Chee’s and their world 🙂
Book one in The Coveted series a well written story with a great storyline, it kept me turning pages. I want to read the next book. Lacey Madison is a very strong teenager and her guys are great. That was some ending. I received a copy of this book and am voluntary reviewing.
I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
This was a great book !
Lacey is not having a good day, make it a good life.
It looks like bad luck always follow her around.
When will her luck turn for Lacey?
Loved the characters + the storytelling !
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
No spoilers of any kind included.
I thought Eyes in the Darkness was awesome!
But then again I think anything by Rebecca Royce and Ripley Proserpina is amazing, they make a fantastic writing team!
So it’s yes I definitely do recommend this book because it’s a awesome story to climb into and get completely lost within its pages.
Lacey Madison’s mom died when she was little and her dad took off before that. She was raised by her mean grandmother in a town that all thought she was a bad girl no matter what she did.
Thorn Evan’s had been her protector, best friend and well someone she wasn’t going to think about anymore because he left town with Colton Ivy and the whole town blamed her for it and everyone hated her .
There is more to it and yes you find it out in the story but it is the story so I. Can’t tell ya.
Oliver and Aaron are the boys who just moved in next door with the wonderful family. They have secrets she doesn’t know about at first and it’s a good thing. Oh and there are monsters too. Lots of mystery, action, drama, betrayal and wow so much more. I couldn’t put it down so don’t miss it. The ending has a bit of a cliffhanger but don’t worry it’s not over. The story is the series is not and I am hooked. I can’t wait for the next book.
Voluntarily review a copy and I honestly loved it
Far north
I love a good mystery and this book is that.
Lacey wants to graduate and leave the town full of ppl that hate her. But that changes due to her neighbor and ex friends. I really enjoyed the characters in this book. I like that there were two groups of boys and they worked separate but together.
Bring on book 2
Whoop Whoop another series by this author teamed up with another author I will read on occasion. This is also a YA but of a fantasy type. YA can be just as exhilarating as adult I am finding out. What Lacey wants and what she actually gets are two different things. The regard her family is held in is not favored either. The direction this one goes in is not what you would think as you read and follow Lacey. Your heart goes out to her but then stuff happens with you in wonderland. Her lonely will take a turn with some unexpected boys. As they have our attention it end leaving us wanting more and thank goodness there is more to come.
Fantastic Start!
Once again this fantastic author duo gives us a story that is well written, funny, full of action and a whole lot of suspense. The story is so enticing and entertaining that it will keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next to poor Lacey. I was hooked right from the start and needed to know how Lacey’s story would end – but we won’t get that resolution until the next book or so. Woven into this story is some darkness, which we only get to see a bit of in book one. I have a feeling that the darkness will only increase over the next few books.
The characters were phenomenal and funny. The storyline is very intriguing and full of mystery. I highly enjoyed it and I can’t wait to find out what happens next!
I died at the end of this! Not only was the entire story full of “what is next” for Lacey, but when it hit the finally at the end, it wasn’t the expected end! Okay, so it is part of a series, and now I’m waiting not so patiently for the next book. I really enjoyed the elements of old native desert spirits – from the sands, to the research the guys did, to the just everything. There was a lot of things packed into this one story surrounding the small dusty town.
This is part of a series and is the first book.
I don’t normally read paranormal, however this story grabbed me from the beginning and didn’t let go until the last page. Lacey Madison tells us about her so called life growing up under the unloving roof of her Gran’s mobile home in the desert of New Mexico. An outcast in school and her tiny town, labeled bad for reasons not entirely clear to her she is counting the days until she can go north where it’s not blazing hot and sand and grit doesn’t invade everything. Sounds awful, right? There is something super wrong in this little town and specifically anyone surrounding Lacey. She shares her story and how terribly she’s treated by everyone in her life and in her tiny town and just when I started to wonder if she made it all up weird things start happening.
She had one friend growing up in school, Thorn Evans, but he and his best friend Colton Ivy took off a year ago causing their prominent parents to blame her even more. At this point we’re still getting started and I feel so bad for Lacey, but she’s not looking for sympathy, she’s smart and tough and counting down the days until she can escape her existence. Thorn and Colton are the first of Lacey’s RH, reappearing with an urgent need to talk to her. They are still under age so the story remains PG-13 for now. Lacey seems to be ground zero for all the lusty guys in town including the two new ones who live across the road with their unconventional family. Brothers Oliver and Aaron Chee welcome her into their family home when hers becomes critical, and we’ve just met the next two in Lacey’s growing RH. Strange things have always happened around her but the weird is ramping up at warp speed, there is a reason and all the guys know it.
Proserpina and Royce deliver a suspenseful twisty story brimming with the rich mystical history I’ve come to crave from a Proserpina book. This series starter introduces us to all the players and whet my taste for a crazy scary ride! The trilogy promises to be gritty and explosive, threading the past decade strategically into the present. I am seriously ready for the rest of the mystery in Voices in the Darkness!
One thing is certain, when Rebecca and Ripley put their heads together you are in for an awesome journey.
Lacey has been trying her best to keep her head down, not so easy in this small town. Her goal is to finish school and get out, go as far north and the furthest she could get. One of the things she did was kick a can on her way to and from school. Little did she know that beat-up can would start to change everything when she kicked it into the road in front of a car she didn’t recognize.
Thorn Evans and Colton Ivy exited the car and almost immediately started exerting their alpha maleness. Which Lacey blatantly ignores and continues on her way.
She even felt like poking a bear, in a manner of speaking and starts up a conversation with Aaron Chee who lived in the trailer across from her. He was homeschooled she only saw him here. A dinner invitation there adds even more to the intrigue. Aaron, Oliver, Kelly and their parents, Jacinda and Ray, have an unusual occupation, and well there’s more than a little creepy in this quiet town.
Thorn and Colton do finally get to explain what happened that they left town so abruptly and seem to be quite friendly with the Chee’s as well.A truly freaky exorcism performed by the local pastor has Lacey moving in with the Chee’s and Thorn and Colton get involved as well.
Fast-paced and suspenseful as the attraction between Lacey and the four boys increases and so does the danger.
I couldn’t put this book down, every page just adds more twists. I do hope the next book isn’t far off. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
I was actually a bit surprised by how much I enjoyed this enticing read. That is because both young adult and reverse harem books can be somewhat hit or miss for me. This book though hit a home run with me. The story is both powerful and engaging. It is skillfully written, well paced and is rich with intense emotions, nail-biting tension, edge-of-your-seat suspense, drama, spine tingling paranormal elements and the slow burning start to what looks to be a very intriguing RH romance. I thought that Lacey was a unique character that was easy to feel for, relate to and become emotionally invested in. She is a blend of spunky, sarcastic, fierce, quirky, tough and vulnerable. In short I thought she was truly an original and I really liked that. Prepare to be left craving more! I myself can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
Oh! I truly couldn’t put this book down. It’s so good! Lacey feels completely alone in life. Everyone in her town looks down on her. When an old friend returns to town things get really interesting. Who knew the monsters of legends could be real.
Just… W O W!!! I’m still overwhelmed by it all, and am waiting on pins and needles for book two! I really want to learn what happened to everyone! This book is filled with paranormal craziness and action. If you LOVED Buffy the Vampire Slayer they you’ll fall in love with this series! I’ve yet to read something by them that I haven’t loved .
Lacey grew up in her grandmother’s place. All she can recall is being the outcast in town. Constantly being ridiculed and yelled at…. The scapegoat for all that goes wrong in the town. She’s got no friends in her life, until that one day when it all changed. Her eyes were opened to the fact her life had been manipulated by a very old god like (with a small g) being b that had existed for a millennia. It had forced the ridicule in her life and everyone surrounding her. Thankfully a few special people appear in her life and help her see for the first time. Enjoy reading about how she realises all this and what she does to take hold of her own life. Lacey has a huge heart and fierce determination! I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Eyes in the Darkness (The Coveted) Kindle Edition
by Ripley Proserpina (Author), Rebecca Royce (Author)
Please note: this book releases on November 25, 2019
I received a complimentary eArc and am voluntarily leaving an honest and fair review.
This is the authors’ first real trip into horror Reverse Harem and it is awesome-opossum.
A creepy story begins to wrap itself around Lacey Madison, the bad girl in her small town. Orphaned at young age, she is dumped into the unloving arms of her grandmother and tormented by a town that hates her for both what she has done and what she didn’t do. That is until two boys return to town, seeking her forgiveness and a demon sets out to make her his own.
Filled with fascinating characters like the family across the street, this slow burn YA (and grow) reverse harem romance keeps the creepy and the scary foremost in our mind as we tear through the pages.
Lacey feels the way all high school girls do, but it isn’t all in her mind. Something really bad is happening to her town. As a heroine Lacey isn’t your typical girl. She isn’t sweet or kind. She wants nothing more than to drive out of her Texas desert town and drive until she is so gar north, she will never be hot again. Her best friend Thorn and his friend Colton had driven out of town after Thorn kissed her. They returned a year later, after everyone hates her for driving them away for a year.
The two boys that start the basis of her harem are wildly different. Thorn is thoughtful, neat and brilliant. Colton is more of an athlete. And they both have a secret to share with Lacey.
Across the street Aaron Chee and his brother Oliver are new and mysterious. Aaron is home schooled while Oliver spends his time learning to be a veterinarian. The family is odd, but close. Something that Lacey has never seen. When she can no longer stay with her grandmother, the Chees take her in.
I enjoyed the plotting, both in the growth of Lacey’s harem and with the Kingian terror that the authors successfully build.
The smexy scenes are pretty much PG-13 (because several of the characters are under 18) but hint at future scenes when everyone is old enough to vote and consent.
I love, love the prose. The story is narrated by Lacey. She is insecure but never whiny. Just when it seems she may be exaggerating, we get to meet Gran, or the Principal or the monster that wants her.
The next book can’t come fast enough.
5 stars out of 5

What?!? Why!?! Ugh, I loved them all and then it was just…over!! I read this all in one sitting and loved them all from page one. There’s no way you can’t genuinely like all the characters in this book. What a great story. The family that just takes her in, the guys and their stories, I’m so sad it’s over. It seems as though book two will be quick. Please, let it be quick!
