Book Quotes
“Love is blind to race, color, sex and age. Love wants what it wants, and you can’t always stop it or change its course.”
“Dread welled in her throat again. The closing of the front door sounded like casket top clicking shut. Second Time Around, her beloved business, was doomed.”
“The heat from their bodies sizzled. She hadn’t intended to hug him. She’d promised herself she wouldn’t touch him.”
“At the door, she turned, and lifted onto her toes, and pressed her mouth against his. The gentle tenderness sparked more than a few nerve endings. He leaned in, unable to resist, and ran his tongue along the edge of her bottom lip.”
Author Interview Questions:
How did the book EXPOSED come about? Both Gwen and Dale were secondary characters in previous books. My editor, Faith Freewoman, insisted that I put the characters together. My first thought was, “no, there is too much of an age difference. What would they have in common?” However, I’d recently made the decision to put more diversity into my books—younger, older, black, white, purple…it doesn’t matter. I want to create complex, diverse characters, so I took on the challenge of creating a story for Gwen and Dale.
Why did you make Gwen’s parents wealthy? Years ago, I saw Into the Wild, a movie about a young man rejecting his wealthy upbringing to live a simpler, more authentic life. It’s a true story, and if you haven’t read the book, or seen the movie, I would recommend it. When I started thinking how Gwen’s a part of Elkridge, I asked myself how her life is/or would be affected by Sheriff Sam’s murder, and wham, there was her story. A woman wanting a normal life, away from greed and corruption, finding happiness in Elkridge, Colorado. How cool is that?
Why are EXPOSED and SPURNED novellas? Why not write full-length books
Three reasons. First: Writing shorter pieces is hard. Trying to write a full story in such few words is challenging, but I wanted to grow as a writer and take on that challenge. Second: I wanted to honor and meet women’s needs. There are women all over the world wanting short, fulfilling reads. I thought about working women riding the train or taking a bus to work, or those who want good lunchtime reading. I considered new moms wanting an escape while their child is breastfeeding or napping, or they want to pass the time while waiting to pick up their children from school. With these shorter books, I celebrate our differences, and allow all readers, no matter where they are, the chance to be swept away into another world.

In this novella, the underlying theme is about daughters learning to reconcile and forgive neglectful parents, especially their fathers. In book 2, we learned about Ashley’s relationship with her father; now in book 5 we will see him involved with her best friend, Gwen and Gwen’s relationship with her estranged parents. This book definitely has some good points in it about how to handle past hurts in order to enjoy future happiness. I hope that in future books there will be more about Gwen and Dale’s relationship. This book reminds me of a Phoenix; out of the bad, good arises.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
She wasn’t looking for love, she was trying to hold on to her dream when he came to her rescue. He was a widower and too old for the dating and games that went with it. The chemistry is unmistakable but there are too any things holding them back. When her past comes back to bit her he may be the only one willing to step in and protect her. A great story with some intrigue and mystery to stir things up.
Terrific
I enjoyed this story so much. Gwen was raised in privileged but when she catches her ex hacking her computer to find about her trust she called it off and ran. But now she is in Elkridge and has found her place. But when her ex shows and then her dad she needs to make peace.
This is the fifth book in the Elkridge Series and it does not disappoint. It was nice to see Gwen and Dale get their own story although I really hadn’t paired them together. But they made a perfect couple with chemistry that was hot, but oh, so sweet. This novella had enough twists and turns that challenged the two to straighten them out to a wonderful and satisfying conclusion. Lyz Kelley is such a wonderful storyteller.
Exposed is book number 5 and another great addition to the Elkridge Series. Exposed can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend you read all of the books in this series because they are all great! I have to say that after each book I’ve read in this series they become one of my favorites and as usual this is on that list. Gwen and Dale are so perfect for each other. I absolutely loved their story. This is a well written read with great characters and a great HEA. I highly recommend this author and this series to everyone looking for great books to read.

Growing up, I lived in a fishbowl full of sharks. I always felt like I was swimming to save my life.
My Review:
Exposed was a quick and easy read, which featured endearing and likable characters previously introduced in earlier books. Lyz Kelley was a recent find and new to me prior to last week. I enjoyed working my way through the 1219 pages of the five books in this unique and entertaining series. Each book contained a complete HEA love story with added genres such as suspense, small town, and family drama; with merely the unsolved murder from the first book being the only unresolved issue, an issue that continues to remain a mystery. Lyz Kelley has an easy to follow and comfortable writing style with amusing humor, interesting and quirky characters, colorful descriptions, and insightful observations. I hope I am paying attention when additional installments are available, as I remain intrigued and curious about this community as well as that unsolved murder.
