Explosive Forces is book five in the K-9 Rescue series by D.D. Ayres. This one stands on it’s own. The only connecting factor between Explosive Forces and the other books in this series is the kennel the K-9 was trained at, yet that’s just a mention.
Carly is sassy, fiery, and goes after what she wants. Noah is a single dad, good at his job, and all out sexy alpha male with his adorable K-9 partner Harley.
Explosive Forces starts off strong with our heroine, Carly, saving the life of our hero, Noah, and his K-9 partner, Harley. It’s a fiery and explosive encounter in more ways then one. Their is no slow burn for this couple. They pretty much take off from the get go even though they don’t know each other. Ones life and carrier is in danger and the others business is about to not get off the ground. There’s an intense plot, it’s fast-paced, entertaining, and full of sweetness that only a K-9 can add too.
I’d classify their romance as insta-love/lust that somehow ended up working out pretty well. I wasn’t overly happy with how quickly these two got together and I will say I was a bit disappointed we didn’t get to see or spend time with Noah’s son. Though I understand why he was out of the picture. The man wants to keep his family safe while he tries to discover who’s out to kill him and his partner.
Explosive Forces was more suspenseful and lighter on the romance, but I enjoyed it. I liked watching these two try to figure out who was framing Noah. The suspense was nicely done. Keeping me on my toes and kept turning those pages to find out what would happen next.
Ayres has definitely climbed on my “must read” list with this phenomenal series. I’m relishing each and every novel in the K-9 Rescue series which gives us a touch of danger, loyal canine companions, fierce heroines, and tantalizing heroes.

Explosive Forces by D. D. Ayres is part of K-9 Rescue Series of books by the author. This is my first book by her and definitely won’t be the last one. I loved the action, mystery and fast-paced story. It can be read as a stand alone or part of the series of books.
Carly Reese has had enough with being a model and after the death of her husband she decides to return to Fort Worth and open Flawless a hand crafted accessories store that were once part of her life when she was a model. She wants recognition for the beautiful art work that these women create and hopefully having them displayed in her store will give them a steady income. But one night while preparing for her opening , she hears a dog barking and when she finds the dog next door with its handsome owner unconscious with the smell of gasoline . When she calls the fire department it starts the fire. With the help of Harley a arson/bomb sniffing dog, Carly rescues Noah from the fire. But when Noah’s boss accuses him of causing the fire, Carly doesn’t believe him and sets out to prove him wrong and Noah innocent.
Noah Glover is an arson investigator and with his dog Harley help solve fires that are intentionally set. But when he finds out that Carly has rescued him from a fire that he’s been accused of setting, there are sparks between both of them not caused by a fire. However, they try not to give into their attraction because she’s a witness to the crime they find it hard to stay away from each other. When Carly is kidnapped by the arsonist, Noah and Harley rush to find her before its too late.
Wonderful and exciting book that builds up to a suspense filled conclusion. I loved Harley who is a dog with a weakness for food and is devoted to Noah completely.
IMO I just didn’t think this book was as good as the others in this series. I couldn’t put my finger on why but it just is. These books are part of a series, can be read out of order and contain lots of suspense.
Carly Reese is a former supermodel, she has returned to her hometown and opened a fashion boutique. She was a couple days away from her grand opening when it catches fire and blows all her dreams to smithereens. The good news is that Carly saved a life of a man and his dog in the empty store next to hers just before the fire broke out. Turns out the dog is a K-9 dog and the gorgeous man is a firefighter.
Noah Glover and his K-9 dog, Harley, have been set up to die and someone wants everyone to think it was a suicide attempt. From the first moment he meets Carly, he wants her. They team up to track down the killer and arsonist who framed Noah. Sparks fly between these two and they become involved even though due to the circumstances they need to stay away from each other. Easier said than done! Will the sparks between these two fizzle out or ignite into an inferno while justice is being seek’d?
