Explosive Encounter” is book two in the ‘Task Force 779’ series by K. L. Donn, and it’s a nail-biter. The books in this series center around members of a secret special OPS team that reports directly to the President of the United States. You don’t need to have read the first book in the series (which was also very good, by the way), in order to enjoy this one.
Foster is the explosives expert on the team, and he is nicknamed Chaos, which describes what he causes with his explosions as well as his disastrous divorce from his ex-wife. He’s more than content to remain single and devote his life to serving his country. Everett is the daughter of a highly ranked official in the CIA. She’s a recent college graduate, trying to sort through complicated emotions about her parents and her personal life. The plot in this book is incredibly intense, and I don’t want to give any spoilers that might lessen its impact, but the book blurb itself lets you know that she gets kidnapped so I’m not spilling the beans when I mention that. Her kidnapping and brutal captivity is the event that introduces her to Foster and kicks off a chain of events that will permanently change both of their lives. As events unfolded, I found myself pulled through the story because I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. I’ll confess I sent three calls to voicemail because I didn’t want to interrupt my reading!
The excellent main and secondary characters are the driving force that makes this story come to life and makes the shocking moments more viscerally powerful. The twists in the story were nicely done. Be advised that you might want to have a tissue handy when you read this book, unless you want to wipe your eyes surreptitiously on your sleeve. The ending is fantastic and I hope there will be glimpses of Foster and Everett in future books in the series.
Once again KL Donn has written a story that breaks my heart while putting it back together in the same moment.
Foster and Everett’s characters are so broken there is no way anyone could believe they would find a happily ever after together. Mistakes are made, but in the end two broken souls discover their need for each other in ways you could never imagine.
This is the second book in the series and we have met Foster “Chaos” and had a little bit to get to see is passion and dedication. It comes out full force in this book.
When the mission is bring home a kidnapped woman, there is bound to be some feelings involved in the extraction process. This time it was different for Chaos though. He got to spend extra time with Everett and for whatever reason she felt safe with him, this only strengthening their bond. Not entirely sure how to process his feeling as he had given up on women after his failed marriage. But there is still a pull he can’t ignore.
Everett is slowly recovering from the worst nightmare. The way she was violated would bring down the strongest of women but she is determined to try and move past this. The love of her mother helping her. When there is sight of more trouble she finds the one person who truly makes her feels safe once again. She is so confused about why this is all happening her to but her attraction to Foster just seems to keep sneaking in.
Can they find the true threat and help Everett be free of worry? Will Foster convince her that they are worth the try?
I did feel that the love connection went a little faster than my liking. It seemed to loose a little bit of the connection with the characters. I did enjoy the story though and love the family feeling you get from the men of Task Force 779 and their women.

Take a bite of Task Force 779
Trust KL Donn to come up with another story that will surely keep you turning the pages in one sitting, not because it’s a short story, but because you will be hard-pressed to put down such a compelling plot!
Foster Halsey, Task Force 779’s bomb expert, and Everett Gaines, estranged daughter of a CIA official who was kidnapped while on vacation in Mexico, are the central characters in this story. We also see Foster’s other Task Force 779 team mates plus two more that, hopefully, we will get to meet soon, because, take it from me, once you take a bite of a KL Donn story, you won’t let go!
Why, you ask? This author, like a few that I have fallen in love with, takes on real-world situations that most often are shunned by society. Yes, some of you might say that her stories are a bit over-the-top, but that is an author’s prerogative, right? For me, for as long as an author I follow is able to lead me to the meaning behind his or her stories, then I don’t mind if a little bit of liberty is taken in certain situations.
Take Everett’s case. Who is to say the situation she found herself in, is not real? The trauma, how she responded? The way that KL Donn treated her heroine, to me, felt like she was being careful this time, compared to Ryder and Codie’s story in Missing in Action (Task Force 779, Book 1). Nonetheless, Everett’s story is no less compelling.
Now let’s talk about Foster. Burned by a cheating ex—ahem, I love KL’s word for her, Cheatasaurus Rex—Foster is focused only on his team mates and saving lives. Until, of course, he meets Everett. I am glad that KL Donn gave this alpha hero more human character, one who can make mistakes and own up to them.
And yes, if I can hogtie Foster to the bed and claim him as mine, I would!
So, what are you waiting for? One-click already!
Wonderfully spun magic! KL creates these wonderful stories of broken women who need the perfectly strong man to make her whole again. The difference with this story is that Foster is also broken in his own way and needs Everett just as much as she needs him. KL is definitely the queen of twists and turns and a couple you don’t see coming. You can read this as a stand alone but you get a little back story if you read this in order. At times my heart broke for Everett and slowly Forest mended outback together.
Explosive Encounter drew me in from the start, it was fast paced, suspenseful, and action packed. Foster felt something for Everett when he rescued her, but once bitten he let her walk away, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t think about her. When trouble comes calling again for Everett, Foster and his team will do anything to keep her safe. Will he open his heart to her? There was so many scenarios, that I was kept guessing till the end. I’m liking the Task Force 779 Series, and the characters are good too. I’m looking forward to the next story.
Explosive Encounter was very dynamic and lived up to the hype that the previous book set up. Foster and Everrett have it rough from the start. But, a bond was forged in that hellhole and a bond like that quickly shows you who you can trust and who you can’t. Even with that trust established, there are still some issues that they encounter as two people wanting to be together. Foster and Evie together are a dynamic couple. I loved how the story played out and how the bonds between the team seemed to leap off the pages. Everrett never experienced that type of relationship before and there would be no better group to bring her out of the darkness left by her horrible experience. No one should have to pull themselves from the darkness alone. Foster and the guys were right there in the darkness and made sure they remained with her and each other as support.
The giddiness I felt reading Foster and Evie’s story made the story itself fly by because I just couldn’t put it down. There were times when I couldn’t even breathe and then times where I couldn’t turn the page fast enough. This story like its previous is above any expectations that I had.
I can’t wait for the next book to release because if it is going to be like its series partners then it will be even better than Explosive Encounter!
An emotional journey, a gripping story and strong characters… these things come together perfectly. I loved the story, loved these characters, Foster and Everett, and loved the strength and fight they have. From pain grows love. I am drawn to the other characters as well and look forward to what will come for them. A must read.
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Amazing Read! Definitely recommend this book and series. Everett is a beautifully broken strong woman! Having gone through so much torture and destruction, she does not let that get her down, she wants to find answers and to one day move on with her life. After hearing the voice that helped her get through her capture she builds a connection with the man that saved her. With everything that Foster had gone through with the capture, his ex wife, and his other missions you can’t help but want a happy ending for these two. I was rooting for them to continue to fight to be together, telling Everett to give in and take her man, and get some good in her life. Then cussing Foster out for making such a a$$holish move. Of course I couldn’t put this one down, then hated myself for finishing it so quickly only to know that I would have to wait that much longer for the next release. But that’s a price I’ll pay, because I can’t help but Love KL’s words. Again I can’t tell you enough to One Click this series and prepare yourself for all the feels.
Task Force 779 series started with such an emotional story I knew that the next books in the series were going to be just as explosive and boy was I right. K.L. Donn really wove a beautifully tragic love story between Foster and Everett.
Foster and Everett meet under horrific circumstances and this story takes you on a journey of them coming together after Foster rescues Everett. Everett has a hard time trusting after what she has been through and Foster is plagued by doubt about their relationship. Both of them have to overcome, push through and learn to be brave with each other.
I really loved the little nuggets Donn drops about the other characters. you get mini little insights into potential couples and future books. I love all of it!
This is definitely worth the read and should be read after book one.
Before starting this book… Grab a drink, grab a snack and find your comfy spot because you are not going to want to get up or be disturbed as you read this book.
This is an emotional ride but so worth it…. Definitely a book on my continue to read pile.
Grips you and never let’s go!
KL kept me on my toes through the entire book! From beginning to end we are taken on an emotional, heartbreaking, torturing, loving ride with no time to breathe. It literally took my breath away!
Can’t wait for what’s to come!
Love foster and everett! This is a wonderful book and I cant wait for the next one!!
Evie and Foster’s story is simply fantastic. Super emotional? Yes! But, fantastic. Explosive Encounter is the second book in the Task Force 779 series. I am in LOVE with this series. I love Alpha male books and a good heroine in danger that still has a badass side. KL Donn never ever disappoints with her plots, her worlds or her characters. Reading one of her books feels like a personal journey you go through yourself. That’s how good she is at pulling you into a story. This book is one that once you start, you just can’t stop. So, remember that before you even read that first word. Get comfy, because you won’t be moving until you’re finished.
Hot damn! This was explosive! I have been waiting forever for this story and it did not disappoint. Again, KL Donn has a way with words that suck you right in and doesn’t let you go until it’s done messing with all your feelings. Gah, the connection between Evie and Foster is just what I needed. There’s action but also mystery and the sexiness you expect from KL Donn’s men. I couldn’t put it down and was actually left wanting more. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
Explosive Encounter by K.L. Donn a five-star read that explodes from the page. This is number two in the Task Force 779 series and you would enjoy reading them in order as there is some back story, but you don’t have to have read the series to enjoy this amazing story as K.L. Donn does a great job keeping you in the loop. Chaos, Chaos, Chaos you really do like to bring a bang don’t you, the only thing is can Everett Gaines cope with the bang? As poor Everett has been through so much that even the smallest bang could break her. I love how K.L. Donn writes female leads who may be broken but wont break. This is a great story and one I am sorry to have finished.
Explosive Encounter is book two in the Task Force 779 series. Loved it.
Everett and Foster’s first encounter was not an easy one. Foster had no plans to ever fall in love again. But a mission to rescue Everett changes everything.
Everett was a strong woman. She went through so much. Betrayal, lies and secrets and danger are all part of this suspenseful story. As always, love the heroes in KL Donn’s books. Love how protective they are of their woman and the people they love.
And the heroine’s are always strong, even though they go through so much.
Good read and fast paced. Loved the storyline. I read it in one sitting.
Can’t wait for the next book.
5 STARS!
The love story started out a little too fast for my preference. It seemed like there was so much action that occurred in the first few chapters, to fast forward to the point where the pick up on their “chance meeting”.
Despite that fact, the story was still a good one. You get the passion and desire for happiness from Foster who is seeking out Everett to satisfy an untamed need for her. You also get the reservations, but push to have a better future from Everett
Their tale starts to balance out in the later chapters of the book. They tackle so much, more than one couple should, but it just intensifies their attraction and makes their bond becomes stronger, more enviable. Throughout such tragic circumstances, they manage to find and keep a love that should have never been.
Overall, it was enjoyable getting to know the characters and the return of some of the boys from book one! I’m a sucker for a military styled story and this one did not disappoint.
I am loving these guys of Task Force 779 from KL Donn! In the second book in the series we get to go along for the ride of Foster and Everett coming together. Foster has been burned by relationships in the past and isn’t planning on going down that road again, that is until he meets Everett. Everett meets Foster and the rest of the 779 guys during the worst time in her life and yet Foster left his mark with her. I am in awe of the story that is their journey and can not wait to go along for the next ride from this task force. The men in this unit are elite and the best of the best so their counterparts compliment them so well so far!
I completely fell in love with this story! Foster and Everett were everything and I loved feeling every emotion in their story. Everett is so amazingly strong with everything that she went through and I really love her personality. I love this series so much and I can’t wait to see what’s next in the 3rd book!
