This #1 New York Times international bestseller tells the epic history of Israel’s birth through the eyes of two generations of Jews as they fight to reclaim their homeland. Leon Uris tactfully meshes together the story of two 19th century Jewish brothers who seek refuge in Palestine with the 20th century story of how Israel gained its independence after World War II. Rich in historical accuracy … accuracy and compelling characters, this literary classic sheds light on the long history of the Jewish diaspora, their struggles for liberation, and the costs of war. One of Uris’s best works, Exodus is just as relevant today as it was when it was first published in 1958. The 1960 film adaptation starring Paul Newman was nominated for three Academy Awards.
“Exodus is an international publishing phenomenon–the towering novel of the twentieth century’s most dramatic geopolitical event. Leon Uris magnificently portrays the birth of a new nation in the midst of enemies–the beginning of an earthshaking struggle for power. Here is the tale that swept the world with its fury: the story of an American nurse, an Israeli freedom fighter caught up in a glorious, heartbreaking, triumphant era. Here is Exodus –one of the great best-selling novels of all time.” – From the Publisher
“Passionate summary of the inhuman treatment of the Jewish people in Europe, of the exodus in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries to Palestine, and of the triumphant founding of the new Israel.” – The New York Times

The story of the birth of the new Israel after WWII. Although the book is fiction it is based on real historical information. Of course, the author used literary license, it is a very well written historical novel. I recommend it.
Educational as well, as it told the story of Israel’s founding.
I enjoyed this book. It had a slow start but I knew it would get better if I stuck with it…
Marvelous history of the Jewish struggle to become a state.
Two huge events of the twentieth century are discussed in this book in dramatic detail – the Holocaust and the establishment of the State of Israel. This book had a huge affect on me and on my life.
It’s been a long time since I read this book so I don’t remember everything about it. I do remember that I liked it a lot.
Very entertaining way to learn about the battles of the Jewish people to become the nation of Israel again. A very nice work of historical fiction.
A classic!
A fantastic read
I read this years ago, and am so glad I did. It helped me better understand world events.
Uris is a master of the war novel and this one, centered on the rebuilding of the state of Israel is a masterpiece.
Leon Uris was a great author, I loved the way he built his stories, but I think Exodus was one of his best. Good read!
This is one of my top ten. Book. Author. Story.
A classic…hugely entertaining and quite informative. Read it…and enjoy.
Uris absolutely touches your heart, awakens you to a different culture and tie.
I had wanted to read this for a long time and finally settled into it. It was well written although the names are a bit confusing. I felt it gave me a reasonable overview into the beginning of the State of Israel.
A classic!
One of the great historical novels about WWII
This was a really great story. It taught me a lot about things that happened after WW2, and it made me pretty angry. Glad I read it.
Best historical novel of the subject ever written!
