This #1 New York Times international bestseller tells the epic history of Israel’s birth through the eyes of two generations of Jews as they fight to reclaim their homeland. Leon Uris tactfully meshes together the story of two 19th century Jewish brothers who seek refuge in Palestine with the 20th century story of how Israel gained its independence after World War II. Rich in historical accuracy … accuracy and compelling characters, this literary classic sheds light on the long history of the Jewish diaspora, their struggles for liberation, and the costs of war. One of Uris’s best works, Exodus is just as relevant today as it was when it was first published in 1958. The 1960 film adaptation starring Paul Newman was nominated for three Academy Awards.
“Exodus is an international publishing phenomenon–the towering novel of the twentieth century’s most dramatic geopolitical event. Leon Uris magnificently portrays the birth of a new nation in the midst of enemies–the beginning of an earthshaking struggle for power. Here is the tale that swept the world with its fury: the story of an American nurse, an Israeli freedom fighter caught up in a glorious, heartbreaking, triumphant era. Here is Exodus –one of the great best-selling novels of all time.” – From the Publisher
“Passionate summary of the inhuman treatment of the Jewish people in Europe, of the exodus in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries to Palestine, and of the triumphant founding of the new Israel.” – The New York Times

I read this book when I was twelve. It changed my life.
A good old book. Like some old shoes always stay with you in a “fitting” way. I never tire of picking it up and “catching-up” on one part or another …even at times I re-read the whole thing. It brings some more meaning to our world!
read this a long time ago but remember loving it
I thought this was a wonderful book when I read it at 13 years old, but after a recent re-read I found that it didn’t hold up over time. The history of the state of Israel was interesting, and I appreciated learning about it, but the presentation is definitely biased toward Israel. And the book is full of exclamation points. Maybe that was okay …
Read this years ago. Wonderful, classic book about a fictional account of the formation of Israel.
Ari Ben Canaan etal and the founding of modern day Israel was brought to life by Uris. One of many great books by the author
Excellent book and story. The movie follows the book very well. My favorite Leon Uris is QB VII.
Awesome! Uris at his best.
This novel is quite comprehensive, but I wanted to learn more about Jewish modern history and the development of Israel.
I learned so much in this book. I’ve read it three times, I believe. Great story.

One of my favorite books ever.
I read Exodus a long time ago and am inspired by it daily. Leon Uris writing is very dynamic and shows the daily life of Ari and others and all they endured to develop the land of Israel. No matter what challenges they found, they were thoughtful and determined to survive in their new homeland.
This is one of my lifetime favorite books Ever! Riveting story of the switch from annihilation to the birth of Israel. It inspired decades of interest for me.
Leon Uris is one of my favorite, all-time, authors! And this book is one of his best. Fiction, based on history re/the formation of Israel before and right after WW2, it’s full of facts that many of us don’t know. I loved the characters, as Uris painted vibrant pictures with his words. I read this many years ago, not long after its …
One of my favorite books when I was a teenager (so long ago).
