This #1 New York Times international bestseller tells the epic history of Israel’s birth through the eyes of two generations of Jews as they fight to reclaim their homeland. Leon Uris tactfully meshes together the story of two 19th century Jewish brothers who seek refuge in Palestine with the 20th century story of how Israel gained its independence after World War II. Rich in historical accuracy … accuracy and compelling characters, this literary classic sheds light on the long history of the Jewish diaspora, their struggles for liberation, and the costs of war. One of Uris’s best works, Exodus is just as relevant today as it was when it was first published in 1958. The 1960 film adaptation starring Paul Newman was nominated for three Academy Awards.
“Exodus is an international publishing phenomenon–the towering novel of the twentieth century’s most dramatic geopolitical event. Leon Uris magnificently portrays the birth of a new nation in the midst of enemies–the beginning of an earthshaking struggle for power. Here is the tale that swept the world with its fury: the story of an American nurse, an Israeli freedom fighter caught up in a glorious, heartbreaking, triumphant era. Here is Exodus –one of the great best-selling novels of all time.” – From the Publisher
“Passionate summary of the inhuman treatment of the Jewish people in Europe, of the exodus in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries to Palestine, and of the triumphant founding of the new Israel.” – The New York Times

An oldie but goodies. Uris’s novels are comprehensive , detailed and enjoyable.
Loved this book.
Great Book! I read it as a teenager. I feel in love with the characters and the story was action packed and hard to put down!
I read this one many years ago and it was great. I highly recommend this to anyone.
One of my favorite books
A classic story that views one side of the Israeli-Palestinian struggle.
One of Mitchnet’s best; I’ve read it twice— the second time right before visiting Israel. He introduces historical figures on a timeline with believable fictional characters, on the backdrop of an archaeological dig — a great read!
An epic tale as are all of his books. Could not put it down.
One of my most favorite books.
This book, Exodus, like all Leon Uris books, is really interesting. Uris does his research meticulously and even though the main characters are make-believe, you can easily agree that there were characters like them, for real. This book is about Israel, from just after World War II has ended up through it’s statehood being granted. The book is …
one of the best books I ever read.
I learned so much about Israel
I thought it told the story about how Israel became a state..explained what the Jewish people went through
I have read this book twice. Classic Leon Uris approach, but very informative
Best novel about the WWII children trains to Scandinavia, death camps and the foundation of the nation of Israel. All based on true events.
One of the best books I’ve read… and reread!
An all-time classic read.
Classic historical novel!!
I read this book in my youth, it’s the very book that instilled my love for the Jewish state and my love of Leon Uris!
Puts into perspective the hardships of the Children of Abraham…knowing the atrocities committed by the Nazis during WWII makes it that much more difficult to read…but felt it was important!!
