This #1 New York Times international bestseller tells the epic history of Israel’s birth through the eyes of two generations of Jews as they fight to reclaim their homeland. Leon Uris tactfully meshes together the story of two 19th century Jewish brothers who seek refuge in Palestine with the 20th century story of how Israel gained its independence after World War II. Rich in historical accuracy … accuracy and compelling characters, this literary classic sheds light on the long history of the Jewish diaspora, their struggles for liberation, and the costs of war. One of Uris’s best works, Exodus is just as relevant today as it was when it was first published in 1958. The 1960 film adaptation starring Paul Newman was nominated for three Academy Awards.
“Exodus is an international publishing phenomenon–the towering novel of the twentieth century’s most dramatic geopolitical event. Leon Uris magnificently portrays the birth of a new nation in the midst of enemies–the beginning of an earthshaking struggle for power. Here is the tale that swept the world with its fury: the story of an American nurse, an Israeli freedom fighter caught up in a glorious, heartbreaking, triumphant era. Here is Exodus –one of the great best-selling novels of all time.” – From the Publisher
“Passionate summary of the inhuman treatment of the Jewish people in Europe, of the exodus in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries to Palestine, and of the triumphant founding of the new Israel.” – The New York Times

Had never taken the time to read it, but was so glad I did
AS I WAS READING THIS BOOK AND THINKING OF THE 700 PLUS PAGES, WAS SOMETIMES WISHING IT WAS EVEN LONGER. ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE READ.
Sets up the background which lead to the current conflicts and the impass in the Middle East involving Israel and the surrounding Arab countries

Learned a lot and felt the passion of the characters. Should be required reading.
Everyone should read Exodus. It’s the story of how Israel became a nation after World War II. It will give you a perspective on the nation of Israel and the Jewish people that you won’t get anywhere else – their struggles, their resilience. They are truly an inspiring people. This is one of my all time great reads.
What a profound education!
My absolute favorite book, movie and song. Leon Uris is a genius.
Leon Uris is a great storyteller. I have read this book several times.
True classic and real history. I wanted to read this book for years and finally did it. It is a long book, very well written, and I became attached to the characters and felt as though I were there with them. This is a heavy-duty book that deals with difficult and painful issues because we know that they are true. I very much like Leon Uris’ …
One of my all time favorite books read many years ago and reread many times.
This book was one of the best books I have ever read. I did read it when it was first published but still think of it. I highly recommend it for anyone who loves to read.
Provided a sympathetic look into the perspective of someone of Jewish origin during the WWII era. Much like Leo Tolstoy in War and Peace, Leon Uris told the story of several families and individuals who lived through the tumultuous years of the Nazi death camps and the Zionist movement and the post WWII migration of Jews into Palestine and the …
This is one of my all-time favorite books.
Exodus starts off a little slow, but this novel is one of my favorites. I’m on my second copy, having broken the spine in my hard cover from reading it so much.
This isn’t a book filled with difficult to understand words, however Exodus is an emotionally difficult book to read.
It’s based on historical fact, primarily, the birth of Israel after …
