Seventeen year old Jade Sommers’ life is turned upside down the moment she sees the inch long cut across her face heal right before her eyes.
Jade thinks she is going insane, but her boyfriend, Aiden Scott, knows better. He knows what she is. And like him, she was born this way.
Now if finding out that people like her shouldn’t exist isn’t bad enough, Jade’s best friend is kidnapped by the … kidnapped by the psycho who terrorises her dreams. With the help of Aiden, Jade has to figure out how to save her before it’s too late.
But what Jade doesn’t know is not everything is what it seems. She is merely a puppet in a sadistic game to find out what she is truly capable of, and that game has only just begun.

If you have never read a book by Kelly Carrero you are in for a treat. This was the first book of hers that I read and because of this book I now have read every book she has published. This book is kind of like a cross between Xmen, X-files, and a dash of twilight all rolled into one. Well worth the cost and time to read this book.
Very good book for the young at heart couldn’t put it down.
Kelly Carrero has done something fairly rare in my experience – written something that is fairly unique. The closest thing I can think of to what she has pulled off here is the movie Jumper, and even that lacked the execution of Ms. Carrero.
You can get the overall synopsis from the Amazon blurb, but what it doesn’t tell you is that the ending …
This book is kind of Twilight-y!
This book has mild swearing, which I didn’t appreciate, as this is a book targeted to young adults. I was proof-reading this book for my daughter, but I won’t be letting her read it. I’d rather her not become desensitized to swearing. We don’t do it now and I’d like it if she didn’t start. Besides, swearing just …
This book sounded intriguing when it was recommended to me. I will say that I did find it interesting. It was a fairly fast paced story, so it kept my interest. I liked the premise that there are special powers that come with being able to use a bigger portion of your brain and that not everyone is able to do so. Apparently those powers also come …
This is a romanized story of human evolution. The idea was to give access to the story of our original to those who prefer not to read science books, even popular science books. But Baxter failed. He focused so much on the “realism” of the situations and started to write caricatures of human ancestors. He totally turned me off with his …
This book brought all of my college anthropology courses To life In a Story format. I love the way that he didn’t stop at modern times, But extrapolated into the future Past Human extinction. This book Is on the top shelf of my library Along with Asimov, Heinlein and Arthur C. Clark.
It gave me a whole new perspective of life on Earth. I didn’t realize how many different homid varieties that have existed over the eons. I loved the style of the book as well.
I’ve never used the word “magnificent” to describe a book before, but I’ll do so for this one. It left me feeling a little melancholy, but I know nothing lasts forever, so I can’t honestly call it sad. But it was thoroughly engaging from beginning to end and I enjoyed every minute of it.
I’ve actually read this book twice (years apart) and enjoyed it both times. No matter what you believe about our existence, this is a fascinating journey of life as it may have been.
This is a far-reaching book exploring the full spectrum of human evolution. It is based on science while encompassing some pretty speculative ingredients out of the author’s fantastic imagination. Those elements, however, are fairly logical extrapolations based on what is or can be known through paleontology, archaeology, anthropology, and many …
This is a very original book. There are parts in which humans are involved, parts beyond humanity (later in evolution) and parts before humanity. I was wondering how you make stories of animals millions of years before humans evolved interesting, but Baxter managed it. The story of a very early mammal 65 millions years ago, living in the age of …
Just brilliant, well written, great story telling and believable speculation.
