Best book I have read recently. Kept my interest from beginning to end.
How do you describe a book that is part mystery and part romance? I guess at its core this is a story of love on a variety of levels. It begins with a woman burying her fiancé on their wedding day. Then comes the challenges of grief, rebuilding her life, searching for answers, discovering and facing long hidden, dark secrets, letting go, and letting love bring healing.
This was the first book I’ve read by this author and I must say that she’s got a good handle on unexpected plot twists. Just when you think you know what to expect in the story, there is a turn in a very different direction. All the twists and turns are woven together skillfully to reveal everything (finally) to the reader. Her character development is also strong. I found myself truly engrossed in the lives of Aimee, Jamie, and Ian. This book also made me think about what I would do in certain situations. Lots to consider! I am definitely going to check out another of her books!
So why not five stars? There were a couple of things in the story that bothered me and seemed a little cliche. Why did the characters have to be rich? – I guess money was needed to explain and carry certain events. Why did the ending have a bit of unresolved issues? Leaving the door open for a sequel? But, all in all I found this book to be well written and attention grabbing. Definitely one I’ll recommend!
I honestly have not had time to read lately so I looked up some books to listen to. I found this one (Which at the time of me writing this is free with Kindle Unlimited) and was intrigued.
Wedding days are supposed to be happy, but for Aimee, it was not. “Same church. Same Flowers. Wrong ceremony.” This wedding day was now a funeral. Aimee’s fiance had left on a simple business trip, but then he disappeared. The fiance, James, had been Aimee’s best friend since childhood. They were stuck like glue from day one, and now Aimee had to figure out how to live without him. Only she couldn’t. The day of the funeral she was approached by a woman with white-blond hair. “James is alive.” she said. Now Aimee is left questioning. Could the love of her life still be out there? If he is, then why is he not searching for her?
This book is filled with vivid descriptions. All the twists and turns keep you on your toes and into the book. It is one of the ones that you do not want to put down. I did not want to set it down even when the need to pee arose. It was just enthralling.
However, I will say that there are some cliques and the book contained a ton of stuff that was kind of ridiculous. Abuse, rape, incest, all of those are things that are talked about and happen in this story. Now, of course, I do not have a problem with that stuff, however, it is…a bit much when it is all in one book and heavily focused on a specific group of people. You kind of start to expect it after a while.
The last thing that bothered me is that it ended on a cliffhanger. I am not sure if i want to buy the next book or not. It was great, but when books end on cliffhangers I just expect all books to be like that and it makes me not want to read it.
I found this to be a very interesting novel, the story of Aimee and James who had been sweethearts from childhood.
The story of two very different families and how they shaped each of these individuals. James family very controlling and Aimee’s very supportive.
They are about to get married when James disappears, assumed dead. Instead of their wedding a funeral takes place, but someone at the funeral puts doubt into Aimee’s head and she eventually goes to Mexico to follow a lead.
Here begin the search for clues as to what exactly happened to James on his business trip and also a story of deception and of loves found and lost. The story really kept me interested and had a great story line. At present I am reading the 2nd book of this series so hopefully I will get more of a look at the back story.
I enjoyed this story so much. It is difficult to write a review that would include anything about the plot. In my opinion, it is better to not know too much before you read this story.
I will say that the story is fiction and it is good to remember that while reading. Sometimes things fall into place too easily, but just go with it, it is fiction.
I enjoyed the writing style immensely. I cared about the characters immediately and was drawn into the story quickly. I was deeply engrossed in the story and would think about it even when not reading. To me that is a sign of a great book!
