This is the third book in The Everything Series. This book’s focus was on a character, Ian. He appears in the other two books, but the reader finds out much more about his life in this final story. It is difficult to write a review and not include parts of the story that would be better explored as you read for yourself. That said, I will not talk about the plot. What I will say is that this book was so much a love story to me. The relationship between Ian and Aimee was so realistic. Their relationship is so mature, caring and lustful. The writing does not go into detail of sex scenes. That is not the lustful I am speaking of. It is the longing for another person, your soul mate, the love of your life, that makes your heart beat faster just being in the same room with them. I truly felt their love pouring off the pages of this book.
Of course, the book is so much more than that. Mainly it explores Ian’s childhood and how the events of his upbringing has made him the person he is as an adult. Ian had many struggles to overcome and he did. Now at a point when his life is good, he can finally look back to his childhood and find peace.
I loved how the relationships in the book are written. Many are strained, but love finds a way to have them be mended.
This was a great ending to the series. I felt all questions are answered. Relationships are healed. The future looks bright.
If I could give this book 10 stars, I would. That is just how much I loved the conclusion of Kerry Lonsdale’s Everything series.
Readers (myself included) have begged Kerry for Ian’s story since Book One (#TeamIan), and let me tell you, Everything We Give was worth the wait…the long agonizing wait!
Ian’s story is quite powerful. Kerry writes with such detail that you can feel all the emotions Ian is feeling. It will bring you to tears and make you smile. He is one of the strongest male leads I have read in a long time. He has such an intense love for his wife Aimee, and their daughter Cat that most would dream for. How he ended up this strong is nothing short of amazing.
This book will leave you with a nice book hangover, and definitely still wanting more – though this does tie the series up very nicely.
Kerry is one of my top go-to authors and with Everything We Give, she knocks it out of the park once again!
Everything We Give by Kerry Lonsdale is a beautifully written finale for this wonderful series! Even though this is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone book without any problems. Of course, you need to start with Aimee’s story in Everything We Keep! This third book in the series features Ian, Aimee’s husband. The story is very emotional and heartrending in scenes from Ian’s youth. I do not want to post spoilers, but I felt the author captured the difficulties and conflicts within Ian’s family with a very respectful skill. When the mother in a family has a mental deficiency or illness, the whole family dynamic is off-balance. The story is carefully crafted to reveal the understanding and love Ian has for his mother when her detrimental actions are beyond her control.
Aimee is the love Ian has longed for all of his life. Aimee has had some heartaches in her past, but she has confidence in her love for Ian. When James comes back to talk with Aimee, things do become a bit tense. I was so worried! And Ian leaves!
Ian needs to go to Spain for his biggest assignment ever, and he hopes to secure a coveted cover with National Geographic magazine. There he meets up with Reese, a woman from his past. Uh-Oh!
I would be remiss if I did not mention the trip to Spain and the wild Galician horses. The author writes of the pride of the villagers as they keep a tradition alive and interact with the herds to keep the horses healthy. When the Rapa das bestas festival is over, the horses are sent running wild and free!
All actions lead to a reaction. The story reinforced being respectful of the requests of others, even when we disagree or maybe do not understand why we are being asked to refrain from a certain action. Sometimes loving a person is not enough to help them in the way they need, but we can always be respectful of their inabilities to change, and love them from afar.
Everything We Give is as powerful as the first book in this series!
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This is the 3rd and final book in the Everything series. You can read it as a stand alone but trust me you want to read the first 2 before reading Ian’s story. Aimee, Ian, and James’s story is intertwined and the entire story is honest, true, and simply amazing. I completely lost myself in Ian’s story. As you learn about Ian’s past, it makes you realize it’s what makes Ian the man he is today. His love for Aimee and Caty comes through with every page. My favorite scene in the book is the tea party between Ian and Caty. This amazing book made me laugh out loud, ugly cry, and simply immerse myself in the beautiful story. This was the perfect ending to this series. I received an advanced readers copy from the author and NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
I’ve read all three books in this series and I loved them all! The characters became real to me and became people I cared about. I highly recommend this series!! You will not be disappointed.
This book was the perfect ending to the Everything series by Kerry Lonsdale.
It’s a very emotional story and started with the first book, Everything We Keep. It will take you to far away places and the many ups and downs in this story will keep you turning pages until the very last one. So many tears will be shed so have lots of kleenex handy. You will need them I assure you.
Ian is one man you will truly love. I cried with him and for him so many times. He sure went through a lot in his life. As a child and an adult. From his mother’s illness to his dad’s neglect you will root for this child and young man to have it all. All the happiness he deserves. With his wife, Aimee and his daughter Caty, by his side he can’t possibly go wrong.
He learns things about himself that he couldn’t as a child. He took so much responsibility on his young shoulders that it is a wonder he didn’t break. He had so many ups and downs and twists that no child should ever have to endure. But he became a strong man. A loving husband and a wonderful dad. I fell totally in love with Ian.
I felt so bad for what his mother went through. I had tons of empathy for her. Anyone who went through what she did is bound to have problems. She truly loved her husband and son but could not be the kind of person she wanted to be due to circumstances beyond her control.
This book had wonderful characters. Was beautifully told and was rich with love, tears and happiness. I loved it from start to finish. I was reading when I was suppose to be making potato salad. I just wanted to find out what happened next. It’s a wonderful yet sad and then again happy story of a boy who grows up to be a strong man. A family man with enough love to forgive anything.
A huge 5 stars from me.
Thank you to #NetGalley and #Lake Union for the ARC of this awesome book.
I highly recommend it. Just have lots of kleenex handy. I promise you will need them.
Epic Conclusion. In this conclusion to the Everything Trilogy, we follow up shortly after the ending of the 2nd book and get an Ian-centric story this time. In it, we struggles as a kid trying to deal with his mother’s Dissociative Identity Disorder and how the issues that it caused have played out in his adult life. Humourous with inside jokes for the reader at times, particularly when Aimee follows up some thought with “but that is [Insert James or Ian Here]’s story to tell”. Overall this is probably the heaviest of a heavy trilogy, but it is a fitting conclusion that wraps up the last unresolved thread from the first two books. Read the first two books first, but you’ll want to have this one handy when you finish Book 2. 🙂
This book is difficult to rate and review. I just thought the book was okay. Part of that may be that I have not read the first two books in the series.
Ian’s insecurities grated on my nerves and Aimee’s contact with James made me angry. I agree with some of the other reviewers that this book does not work well as a stand alone…you need to have read the first two books to have a clearer picture.
I’m not sure this was a good use of my reading time. But might give the author another chance with a different book…especially if it’s part of a series and I can read the first one.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
A hurricane of emotions stir you through unbearable tragedies, heartbreaking struggles of mental illness, the never ending sacrifices of true love, family secrets and the crazy journey of 2 fated soulmates. Finally we get all the details about Ian and it was worth the wait! Everything if finally revealed and I hope you have your tissues ready. We learn about Sarah and her Dissociative Identity Disorder and the different characters that Ian dealt with growing up before she disappeared and the terrible tragedies they both suffered and the secrets that were kept including how Lacy knows Ian. Ian finally has the opportunity of a lifetime to do an assignment for National Geographic in Spain. Ian is contacted by Aimee’s ex fiancé James and given Lacy’s business card. Ian knows what has to be done to heal his relationship with Aimee he has to find his Mother! So he rushes off to Spain to complete his assignment leaving a confused Aimee behind. Ian arrives in Spain only to find out the journalist he is working with is his ex Reese that walked out on him years ago and broke his heart. Ian is wrapped up in the history of the villagers and the Rapa with the Galician horses in Spain and it was so detailed that I could almost imagine being there! Aimee spies Lacy’s business card and follows Ian to Spain to stand by her husband on his journey to find his mother. I didn’t think this series could get any better but I am blown away with the depth of emotions this story has made me feel. This is a must read series I am recommending to everyone I know! The depth of the research and attention to detail is exquisite! This wasn’t just a story to me. It was an emotional journey and experience that will stay with me for quite awhile!
I could not wait to hear Ian’s story and this story did not disappoint. Not only was the book entertaining, I also learned some things (what you ask – you will figure it out when you read the book!). The story was well-written and flowed so smoothly that I got lost in the story. I didn’t want the story to end. I am deeply saddened that this is the final novel in the Everything Series by Kerry Lonsdale. I have been a member of Kerri’s Tiki Lounge from the beginning and have been honored to read ARCs of all of Kerry’s books. I will tell you – the books just keep getting better so do yourself a favor and read the entire series. It will only have you appreciating the story even more. A great series to read on your next long vacation!
Ian’s story was so much more than I imagined! I hope that this series will continue, I don’t think I’m through with it yet! Kerry Lonsdale writes a great story, if you haven’t read this series, do it now! All three! You will not be disappointed! Have tissues ready tho!
Everything We Give is the third installment in Kerry Lonsdale’s trilogy. The first volume, Everything We Keep, focused on Aimee, while Carlos/James’ story was at the center of Everything We Left Behind. The journey of Ian Collins, Aimee’s husband, is showcased in the concluding installment.
James re-emergence and reappearance upended Aimee and Ian’s relationship. But they have spent several months trying to get back on track — Aimee is busy with plans to open two more cafes, while Ian has enjoyed successful gallery showings of his photographs and has an opportunity to shoot pictures for a story in National Geographic. Even though they are confident of their love for each other and commitment to their marriage and four-year-old daughter, Caty, Ian is ill at ease. One night he realizes what has been troubling him. While he has been frustrated that Aimee has not achieved complete closure concerning her relationship with James (his photos still hang in the cafe), Ian has not come to terms with his own troubled relationship with his parents. For years he has carried the guilt of believing that his actions cost his mother her freedom and tore their family apart. He’s been completely estranged from his family for sixteen years and hasn’t seen his mother for many more. He has no idea of her whereabouts and has sworn to himself that he will find her, but never made a concerted effort to search for her.
As he leaves on assignment for the National Geographic feature, he knows that he must finally find his mother and make amends. But James turns up yet again with a message from the elusive psychic who has intervened in their lives before. Time is of the essence. The assignment will not wait, and the psychic has designated a date and time when she will be available to meet with him — at his childhood home in Idaho. At stake are Ian’s career trajectory and information that might at last bring him peace about his tumultuous childhood.
Kerry Lonsdale reunites readers with Aimee, Ian, and James. As the story opens, James has fallen in love and settled in Kauai to raise his two sons, but returned to Northern California to tie up some old business. That includes delivering a message to Ian from Lacy, the would-be psychic who found him on the beach in Hawaii a month earlier and told him she knew someone who needed her help. Just as Ian is about to leave for Spain for the most important assignment of his career, forces seem to converge in an attempt to derail him. Aimee is tense, consumed with preparations to expand her successful business. But she is not devoted to the venture and questioning whether she has made the right decision. She is also bothered by the fact that Ian has not moved past her interaction with James months ago, despite her having explained it, apologized, and reassured Ian numerous times that she is devoted only to him and their family.
Through narration from Ian as a young boy, Lonsdale reveals the details of his traumatic childhood with a frequently absent photographer father and his mother, Sarah, who struggled with mental illness. Lonsdale conducted research to understand and write about Sarah’s condition from the perspective of her child. Ian became the de facto parent in the relationship, caring for and watching over his mother while simultaneously needing what every child needs — a loving mother to nurture him. While the entire story is enjoyable and touching, Lonsdale’s writing is best in the chapters describing Ian’s harrowing experiences and his eventual, permanent separation from the mother he adored. She also achieves just the right tone when exploring Ian’s anger at and refusal to maintain a relationship with his father. She convincingly explains why Ian blamed his father for their family’s challenges, citing his business trips during which Ian was left alone for days at a time with his mother. However, Lonsdale also credibly details Ian’s adult journey to discover the truth about what happened so many years ago, as well as his readiness and ability to accept that his childhood perceptions were not always accurate. And with the love and support of his wife, Ian is able to find peace, acceptance, and forgiveness — for himself and his parents.
Everything We Give is an emotionally satisfying and moving conclusion to Lonsdale’s addicting trilogy. It is a bittersweet milestone for her readers — with all mysteries solved, and all questions answered, it is time to bid good-bye to the beloved characters of Aimee, James, Ian, et al. But Lonsdale leaves them with secure, happy futures and readers richer for having joined them on their journeys of discovery.
Thanks to NetGalley for an Advance Reader’s Copy of the book.
Everything We Give is the third book in the Everything Series. I highly recommend you read the first two books to fully understand this final story. The third book is Ian’s story. The book alternates between the present and Ian’s childhood. This story is emotional and heartbreaking and you truly feel the love he has for Aimee. I laughed and cried reading Ian’s story. Kerry did a fantastic job writing Everything we Give and it is a satisfying ending to the trilogy. Thank you to Kerry, Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
EVERYTHING WE GIVE is the third and final book in the Everything series by Kerry Lonsdale. It was bittersweet to finish this one. I want to continue hearing Ian and Aimee’s stories and it’s sad for this to be over. However, Kerry did a fabulous job of giving Ian a voice and wrapping up the series.
I love that book 3 is Ian’s story. We learned about Aimee and James so this was a nice way to get to know who Ian really is. Ian’s story (and his mother’s) is heart wrenching. The flashbacks to Ian’s childhood really tug at the heartstrings and made me want to jump into the book to help him. Ian is an incredible person from his childhood to adulthood. There is no way not to be #teamian. And, his relationship with Aimee and the love that they have for one another is something that we should all be so fortunate to have. Beautiful descriptions of the wild horses are also an added delight.
Kerry knocked this one out of the park. I can’t wait to see what is next for Kerry Lonsdale. Until then, I may just have to re-read the series. Thank you for the tremendous adventure this book took me on.
Everything we give is the third and final book in the Everything Series. What a finish to an awesome series. Since this book is the third in the series I highly recommend that you read the rest of the books first. Everything we give answers all your questions ties up all loose ends. Once I sat down to read this book I could not put it down. Ian’s story tugged at my heart. I will miss these characters. I hope that there might be another book that may follow them. I love and highly recommend this trilogy you will not be disappointed.
Growing up with a mentally ill mother and then dealing with the fallout as an adult is no easy task. The emotions are raw and real in this beautiful novel bringing a very satisfying end to the trilogy of Everything!
What a great finish to an amazing series! I’ve loved this series from the first page! Kerry is a master of weaving a story together. Everything We Give is Ian’s story and the mystery with his mom. It pick up where book 2 left off. You will catch up with the previous characters. Highly recommend this book. Of course you need to start with book 1 and read in order.
Everything We Give is everything you could ever want in a book series finale. I had the pleasure of reading the two previous books in the series and although you could easily read this book as a stand alone novel I would highly recommend reading them all to fully appreciate the journey that the main characters Aimee, James and Ian have taken us all along on. This book answered questions I had and gave me closure that I as a reader wanted regarding Aimee and James and their love story. I found myself tearing up reading their last meeting and knowing that they both would continue to love each other in a different way. Letting go and moving forward can be difficult and this book brought those emotions full circle. It was difficult for me to see Aimee move on from James but this final book brought Ian’s character to life for me personally. The details of his difficult childhood with his mother with multiple personalities and breakup with his girlfriend Reese were heartbreaking. The sense of abandonment he had had throughout his life until he met Aimee was devastating and yet he persevered and moved forward to become a great man, husband and father. I am sad to say goodbye to these characters and all I can say is you will love this!
The long awaited 3rd book in the trilogy! We finally get to learn Ian’s story. You know that there must be a lot of backstory to make Ian the wonderful, caring man he has become. What has he had to go through to get to this point in his life? Aimee deserves to be happy, is Ian her true love or is it James she really wants?
I love Kerry Lonsdale’s descriptive storytelling. In past books she has taken us to the Monterrey Peninsula, Mexico, and Hawaii. I have felt transported to these locations through her words, this time we travel to Spain. I now want to go to Spain and see the beautiful horses and hills she has described.
I am now longing for the next book…I don’t think this story is done.
I don’t often read series, but there are a few that have caught my attention, and this was one of them. This story is the conclusion of a three book series, which was so fun to read. It was nice to see how all of the characters played out.
This one follows the life of Ian Collins and things that he had to endure during his life, some sad, some rewarding . Ian was interested in Photography from an early age and his father who was a sports photographer would give him cameras and teach him how to develop the film, but was often away on business leaving Ian with his mother whom he adored. Ian’s mother had some mental problems and often wasn’t there when he needed her, or was in a state that did not allow him to reach her. All of these things in the end made him grow up sooner than he should have.
The characters are interconnected throughout the three books, but each book concentrated a bit more on one of the characters, all of which in certain ways revolve around Aimee, Ian’s wife.
I love the nature of his relationship with his wife Aimee, a relationship which he fought hard to get, and put in all to keep. As any couple they had their ups and downs, which you will find out as you read this series.
This story also had a part where Ian was asked by National Geographic to photograph, the Rapa das Bestas, a Spanish festival in Galicia, where the villagers round up the wild horses, to cut their manes and tails and give them shots before releasing them into the wild again. I found this to be a really interesting part of the story line.
It is a series full of complications, hardships, love and anger, in other words it makes for an interesting read.
I must say I will miss these characters, but I am happy with the way the series concluded.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the ARC of this book.
