In Every Which Way But Dead, witch and former bounty hunter Rachel Morgan’s managed to escape her corrupt company, survive living with a vampire, start her own runner service, and face down a vampire master. But her vampire roommate Ivy is off the wagon, her human boyfriend Nick is out of town indefinitely and doesn’t sound like he’s coming back while the far-too-seductive vampire Kisten is … Kisten is looking way too tempting, and there’s a turf war erupting in Cincinnati’s underworld.
And there’s a greater evil still. To put the vampire master behind bars and save her family, Rachel made a desperate bargain and now there’s hell to pay–literally. For if Rachel cannot stop him, the archdemon Algaliarept will pull her into the sorcerous ever-after to forfeit her soul as his slave. Forever.

Rachel is very passionate about everything but she usually opens her mouth and speaks before she thinks so she gets into a lot of trouble. She also rushes into danger without taking into account what she needs in order to survive. What I AM starting to see is that she is being accountable for her actions, her mistakes, her transgressions. And she …
Love all Kim Harrison books based in The Hollows. Her characters are my favorites!
Amazing author and great stories with fun characters
I am a fan of wiitchy fiction and this series is one of the best. The series is a continuous story. The humorous situation s are very well written and all the characters are fascinating. I have read this who!e series and am so sad there won’t be anymore..
Every book in this series is delightful. This one is no exception. Great characters, good plot, and overall excellent writing that pulls you deeply into the life of the main character.
I loved the entire series!! Rachal and company never disappoint.
I’ve read all of the books in this series. Really like them (apparently!) When she was writing them, this sort of paranormal series was much less common than it is now. It’s getting almost boring. But this series is still among the best. Should be read in order though.
Fast pace read that will having you begging for more at the end.
These books get better with every one! From book one you are invested in the characters because they are so well crafted. You can see the Hollows because the scene is set masterfully! The story is so well told you become immersed in it and become personally invested in the characters and their wants & desires!
Read book 1 & 2 first & then READ …
Very entertaining book, I did not want to put it down
Great series, great characters
I love this series, as evidenced by my strong feelz below! It was the first series I read that ticked MOST of my boxes– magic, humor, romance, snark. But it also inspired a lot of my own writing choices out of frustration over what could have been (no disrespect to the author!). The relationship between Ivy and Rachel was maddening to me. I wanted them together and it just felt like their storyline was influenced by this being a mainstream trad-pub series (ie: it felt like they were perfect together, but oh no! Not lesbians! Quick, re-direct! Okay, better but…oh no! They CAN’T both love the same guy! That would be poly!) I also really liked some of the other potential love interests who were ultimately discarded. This would have made an amazing poly story and it just BEGS for some f/f romance. I’m not against a good monogamous m/f romance line…it’s just that this felt like it really wanted to be more progressive and wasn’t. Still loved the world and characters though. The ending wrap up and final installment was a bit of a let down. I really expected more excitement and a more solid HEA with the chosen love interest. (And the demon, but you know, that’s my kink.)
There’s a new underground player in the Hollows, and he’s putting his own brand of Brimstone on the streets. People are beginning to die. Both Piscary and Trent want the new competition out of their city, and Rachel is about to end up in the middle of it all. To make matters worse, every time she taps a line she risks calling Al across the ley lines. Rachel can’t escape the demon forever, but she doesn’t plan on becoming a tool for him either. Rachel is going to have to make some tough decisions, ones that will scar her forever.
I confess, the reason I love this addition to The Hollows series is Kisten. I need a Kisten in my life. He can be a royal pain, but deep down he knows that Rachel is broken inside from failed relationships. He’s not about to walk into one with Rachel and expect her to change, or give him something she isn’t able to. And while he can be pushy, he also knows the clear signs of when to back off and respects them. Being a living vampire, yes he wants blood, but he’s willing to go without it for Rachel’s sake. Though lately it’s been hard for her to say no.
Rachel is learning to toughen up in this novel, even if it literally has to be beaten into her. Each time she goes toe to toe with Al, it’s nothing but page turning action. Watching her try to outwit him and find whatever loopholes she can is exciting to read. She’s also taking on increasingly harder runs allowing the reader to see how much she is beginning to change as a character. Even if it means some of her morals are starting to be compromised.
The farther Rachel journeys down her path, the more involved the world building becomes. We start to learn more about Rachel’s father and what exactly happened to him. And the Ever After is no longer just something to be seen through second sight. It becomes a tangible area that begs to be explained in future novels. There is a rich history there, just begging to be tapped into.
As always, The Hollows is an adrenaline filled ride. I can’t wait to continue to the next!

She also rushes into danger without taking into account what she needs in order to survive. What I AM starting to see is that she is being accountable for her actions, her mistakes, her transgressions. And she is learning from her mistakes just as she’s learning how to do new things like tap the line. She’s been pretty frustrating up till now and I think I’d be friends with a vamp from a far. But I do like this series and I like the characters and every reveal about Rachel‘s and Trent’s fathers is hypnotic.
