In James Herriot’s final collection of veterinary tales, the storyteller describes the busiest years of his practice and the rewards of training a new generation
As an aging James Herriot begins to see more house pets than livestock, the challenge of treating animals — and reassuring their owners — provides plenty of excitement, mystery, and moments of sheer delight. After building up his own … After building up his own practice, the renowned country vet begins to teach a new generation about a business both old-fashioned and very modern. He watches with pride as his own children show a knack for medicine, and remarks on the talents and quirks of a string of assistants. There is no perfecting the craft, since people and their animals are all remarkably different, but Herriot proves that the best healers are also the most compassionate.

I’ve read all of James Herriot’s books, over and over. His stories and characters never get old.
If one needs a break from the psychological thrillers and action packed novels of today..this is a great break. It helps when humanity is alarming you to know that there are people, real people in this world who do great acts of love. Who cause laughter and happiness in great ways.
I once considered being a veterinarian because of my great love of …
The entire series of these books are warm, witty, wonderful, funny, especially for those of us who love animals. They are all out in the country, on farms or in small little villages in England…folksy. Wonderful. I read the entire series during one of the most stressful years of my life; I think they saved my sanity!
I loved it! Herriot puts me right into the scene, and I almost feel like I’m right there beside him!
Love James Herriot’s books. All of them are a wonderful read and although being about the same subject and environment, are also delightfully different. Cheers for a fine writer.
A good read about a country veterinarian who shares his experiences in a country full of ordinary, down-to-earth practical people.
An utterly entertaining read. Love the view into Rural england veterinary practice decades ago. The author relates his experidnces with humor a pathos, relating with both animals and humzns.

Loved it
I love all of his books but actually thought this was not one of his best. But he does paint a picture with his words that makes you feel like you can see and hear the characters speaking. Enjoyable
In his tradition, this is fun to read.
