Mary Beth Latham has built her life around her family, around caring for her three teenage children and preserving the rituals of their daily life. When one of her sons becomes depressed, Mary Beth focuses on him, only to be blindsided by a shocking act of violence. What happens afterward is a testament to the power of a woman’s love and determination, and to the invisible lines of hope and … healing that connect one human being to another. Ultimately, as rendered in Anna Quindlen’s mesmerizing prose, Every Last One is a novel about facing every last one of the things we fear the most, about finding ways to navigate a road we never intended to travel.

I always enjoy Anna Quindlen’s book. Highly recommend!
Good and entertaining book. Started out a little slow and got better. Story skipped around a little bit but overall liked it.
I blew through this one very quickly. Quindlen has a unique ability to thrust you into her characters’ lives and make you feel as if you’ve known them forever. Something monumental happens midway through the novel that turns it into a ‘before and after’ tale. I honestly wondered how the book could go on much further after the event, but it did, …
I love reading MS.Quindlands book, she is able to pierce what is in your heart ,things you would never want to talk about honestly.
excellent excellent book – about family, the unknown around them, the nuances of character and trafic consequences, and the final acceptance and endurance, with love..
Not Anna Quindlen’s best, but definitely worth reading.
Slow start. Not what I expected in plot line. Characters brought book to life.
Excellent book. Unusual topic. I really could not put it down.
I started reading this book knowing that a tragic event was going to shake up the lives of this family. I thought I had an inkling, but i was wrong. I was completely emotionally engaged, and identified with the mother as she navigated the murky waters of love, profound loss, and regret. It felt real and raw, and I spent much of the second half …
I wrote this review years ago. “Every Last One” took my breath away. This family portrait begins in a cozy, comfortable way although there is an undercurrent of unease that creeps in as the story progresses. When the shattering event occurs, it simply stuns. Anna Quindlen deals with the ensuing grief and devastation with sensitivity. Her …
This book was so well written. I usually prefer “happy” books, but this will stay with me a long time.
Heartbreakingly painful story to read, but the author should be commended to for doing an amazing job of capturing the emotions involved in grieving.
Darker than I expected from Anna Quindlen-not my cup of tea though well written as always.
Fascinating book. I couldn’t put it down.
I rate this book 5 stars. It was realistic, entertaining and easy to read. I liked the characters and thought it was well written.
Incredibly moving book. One of the most memorable in a long time. I’d highly recommend for a book group and/or personal reflection.
Anna Quinlin is one of my favorite authors . She never disappoints!
This is the saddest book I’ve ever read. It is beautifully written. Anna Quindlen expresses the thoughts and feelings of her characters in a realistic way that few other authors can equal. But anyone who is grieving should avoid this book. It becomes very difficult to read after the first 150 or 200 pages.
Really enjoyed story of a family. Did not like the ending
I gave this very well-written novel 3 stars because of the tragedy that overwhelmed the novel and me. I was in a frame of mind in which I didn’t need a tragedy, so my evaluation is probably not fair. I love Anna Quindlen and looked forward to her columns in Time (or was it Newsweek?) and so wasn’t prepared for the overwhelming sadness that …
