Mary Beth Latham has built her life around her family, around caring for her three teenage children and preserving the rituals of their daily life. When one of her sons becomes depressed, Mary Beth focuses on him, only to be blindsided by a shocking act of violence. What happens afterward is a testament to the power of a woman’s love and determination, and to the invisible lines of hope and … healing that connect one human being to another. Ultimately, as rendered in Anna Quindlen’s mesmerizing prose, Every Last One is a novel about facing every last one of the things we fear the most, about finding ways to navigate a road we never intended to travel.
BONUS: This edition contains an Every Last One discussion guide and an excerpt from Anna Quindlen’s Blessings.

This book kept me awake at night because of the plot. Through the first few chapters she gets us used to the routine of the family and then BANG ! it goes off on a very harsh reality …I could not wait to get back to the book to see what happened next……through until the end. It is very well written and could happen to ANY family!
One of the best books I’ve ever read and I read an average of a book a week.
This story, told in the first person of a mother in the throes of raising three teenagers, takes us through the ups and downs of the family’s every day life. Like for most of us-it’s not always easy but her struggles are recognizable. Then a tragedy occurs which makes her question everything. I especially enjoyed the friendships she shares with …
Great read! She understands Young people and their concerns. This was a sad that told of a family and how things can go horribly wrong!
This would make a fantastic book club pick. And…if you have teen kids at home- especially daughters — read this book!
I loved this book so much that I started re-reading it the minute I finished it.
Just too good
As a mother of older teenagers, this book was extremely thought provoking. It is very well written. The characters are well developed and likable, and the plot twists are not predictable. It is a book that will stay with you forever.
I really loved this book because it took me to a place where I felt deep sadness and reminded me that life is unpredictable, that we try but can’t prevent tragedy and that we can heal from what may seem unsealable wounds. I cried many times while reading and on every page in the last part of the book. I recommend this for anyone grieving or afraid …
Anna Quinlan never fails to impress with her writing and story line. Excellent!
Not her usual book
Well written but very dark story.
This is an amazing book with great characters and a profound storyline. The reader never knows what will come next and the work draws out an array of emotions. Great read!
I love all her books and this book did not disappoint
Enjoyed the characters until a tragic event occurs that I was not prepared for. It turned into a story of loss.
I thought it was a great story. The characters came to life off the page, I felt like part of the family. When tragedy struck, I had to take a break. I was so upset. In retrospect I would recommend that the reader push on thru the disaster and travel the healing journey with the characters. This story stayed with me for a long time and I had …
Difficult to read, but well worth it.
Interesting book about family dynamics, loss and dealing with grief. It was very cathartic.
she does excellent character development. You get so incredibly informed about all family members – then when the plot thickens, you don’t see it coming, and you’re actually sad, really sad, for those people you got to know ! I love her writing. She never fails, never.
As always, Quindlan’s writing is well-crafted and a pleasure to read, and this story of a family that has to find a way to go on after tragedy is complex and unforgettable.
