When Linc met Erin in college, she was already engaged to his best friend. From the moment he first laid eyes on her, a war commenced within him. On one side, the need to resist his attraction to her, and on the other to have her for his own.Erin Clay, widowed, is raising a son, who’s turning five come September. Growing up as a minister’s daughter, she received a lot of well-meaning … charity—donations comprised primarily from the cast-off clothing her schoolmates no longer wanted.
When Erin was in college, she’d been swept off her feet by Merrill Clay. He was sophisticated, wealthy, and self-assured. Handsome, too, he’d introduced her to a world that seemed to have all the things her own life had lacked.
With stars in her eyes and her head in the clouds, how could she say no to his marriage proposal?
It’s been a year since Merrill’s death, much too soon for her to be developing feelings for Linc Severance, her late-husband’s business partner and former best friend.
If Erin is no longer certain that she married Merrill for the right reasons, how can she trust her growing awareness and feelings for Linc?
She’s no longer a young and naive college student. With a son to care for, it’s vital that she put away her girlish dreams of passion and love.
And, as for Linc, he’s determined to untangle his former partner’s business interests from Erin’s finances. Then, he’ll disappear from her life forever. He’s wasted too many years loving a woman never met to be his.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
This was a book that I was able to read in one setting. The plot to the story was a good one. Linc was best friends with Merrill. Unfortunately Merrill met Erin first and they later married. Unbeknowst to anyone Linc fell in love with Erin. Later when Merrill dies, Linc comforts Erin and helps her in the early period of her grief. Linc suddenly takes off for Los Angeles and abandons Erin leaving her confused. Was she too needy? Was she relying on him too must? What made him leave and without a good-bye? It is over a year later before Linc returns to Salt Lake City and Erin. The rest of the story you will just have to read for yourself.
This is a clean romance. It is written in a dual POV format but was a little heavier on Erin’s POV then Linc’s. I did enjoy the story but at times I just frustrated in the conflict that these two characters just went round-robin with. For two grown adults it sure took them some time to really say what they mean.
This is a good story and I did enjoy it.
This is my third book by River Ames. The premise of the story and the writing/editing were both very good. This writer has created main characters that are complicated and complex and who evolve throughout the story. Supporting characters are generic and less interesting in that they don’t really add any depth to the story. In the case of EVERY GOOD DEED, the conflict between Erin and Linc is unique but for this reader, it just felt drawn out. The push and pull between them had been illustrated and re-illustrated several times over, and I found myself saying, “Enough already …” I think the story would have been better served if the conflict had been resolved earlier on because it felt very tedious by the end of the book. I do like my HEAs and this one provided that as well as an unexpected twist about Erin’s late husband. It pains me to not give rave reviews because I can only imagine the amount of work and dedication that goes into writing a novel. This one had so much potential but didn’t quite do it for me.
One of the greatest books I’ve read all summer. If you love romances you will love this book. Hooked me from page one.
This book was full of passion, chemistry, guilt, and love as both of the main characters struggle with their undeniable feelings for each other. It made for a very interesting story and one that I could not put down. I had to find out what secrets Linc was keeping to himself and if that would ruin his friendship with Erin. I received a copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
A sweet story about a widow and her husband’s best friend. You will fall in love with the characters. Very well written. You won’t want to put the book down once you have started.
