On an ordinary morning, Maria Colson takes her baby son Dylan to the corner store. She turns her back for only a few seconds. When she looks again, she sees his empty stroller, as Dylan is being abducted into a waiting van. Maria climbs into the van, but is violently thrown to the road where she is left for dead as the vehicle vanishes without a trace.
As Maria fights for her life and her … her anguished young husband keeps a beside vigil, the FBI and police across metro Sea-Tac and Washington State search for Dylan.
Seattle Mirror reporter Jason Wade is under pressure to bring in a big story, and the Colson kidnapping could be it. It’s certainly a bizarre case with pieces that just don’t add up: The Colsons are a hard-working couple. Former high school sweethearts. No problems. No enemies.
Then Jason and his dad, a private detective haunted by his former life as a cop, discover a grisly murder of a young woman that is somehow connected to the Colsons.
Now, in a dark Seattle underground of desperate dreamers and ex-convicts, Jason embarks on an investigation that parallels one led by Homicide Detective Grace Garner.
They’re both hunting for the one piece of the puzzle that connects the baby’s disappearance with a spine-tingling case of revenge. And time is running out, because whoever took little Dylan Colson is more dangerous than anyone could ever imagine.

I like Jake and enjoyed his thoughts and investigation process. I did not like his boss and hoped Jake would announce at the end that he was quitting.
I can’t get enough of this author If you haven’t read his books your really missing out on some fabulous novels. Keep them coming Rick
Mr. Mofina is good at keeping me on the edge of my seat with his stories. This books pulls the so many emotions from deep within from the first few pages. The abduction of a child…..heartbreaking and intriguing as the stories unfold and the evidence runs from one person to another. Can you figure the connections before they are uncovered in the book? I didn’t!!
Jason Wade, a reporter, is center to the story and this is the second book I’ve read with him in it. Will look forward to more of his relationship with the cops and his dad to be revealed.
Thanks. I still have one more Mofina book on my shelf to be read: ” Missing Daughter”
This second book in the Jason Wade series is a gripping, engrossing read. I look forward to seeing how things progress with his father and a certain law enforcement official.
I would give it 10 Stars if I could!
Truly enjoyable read!
What begins as an ordinary morning in the Colson household, turns tragic as their young son is kidnapped and his mother gravely injured in attempting to stop the abduction. As Maria’s life hangs on by a thread, the Seattle police begin their investigation to locate Dylan. Jason Wade, a crime reporter with the Seattle Mirror, uses all his investigative skills to help solve the case and help bring the child home before it’s too late. A real page-turner about every parent’s worst nightmare!
I love his books
I thought this book was awesome.
What would you do if your child was abducted.
Everyone in this story runs the full run of emotions—-
It has nice twists and turns—–and you may be surprised by some things that you find out.
Rick Mofina is a mystery suspense water who has won every possible award for his novels. This novel is no exception, offering great prose, suspense, realistic characters and a terrific story.
Jason Wade, a reporter for a Seattle newspaper gets caught up in the story of a baby’s kidnapping. The baby’s Mom witnesses the kidnapping and desperately tries to rescue her child, but is tossed out of the moving van like trash, leaving her in a coma, close to death. Jason needs a big story to keep his job and there’s not doubt, this is it. But why would a baby be kidnapped with no requests for ransom from a young family with a seemingly spotless background and no money?
The action here doesn’t quit. Spoiler Alert: My only negative comment, is this: I don’t think you can wake up from a coma and be really physical and mentally active within 3 minutes.
Great story. Certainly keeps your attention throughout. Mr. Mofina was able to call up all the emotions one can experience.
Fantastic. Have to get the first and third book as I found out this is the second in a series.
