Nicholas Sparks has given us another great romance set at the beach in North Carolina. This was a light book with themes of love and sadness and hope for the future. Sometimes love arrives at just the right time in people’s lives but sometimes its at a time in their lives that it just won’t work and people get hurt. This is the case with Hope and Tru. When they met on Sunset Beach, she was taking a break from her long time boyfriend and wondering if they had a future together. He was on a visit from Zimbabwe where he was a safari guide, on his first trip to America to meet his father for the first time. He had a child in Zimbabwe who meant the world to him. When Hope and Tru meet, sparks fly and they fall in love over a matter of days. When they have to make a choice between personal happiness and family responsibilities, it’s devastating for both of them. Will they ever meet again and if they do, will their love survive over the year?
This was an enduring, heart-warming novel that will have you believe that love can conquer all and last a life time.
Eeep – finally another Nicholas Sparks book!
I just love his stories. A WALK TO REMEMBER was the book that started my reading addiction back in 2002 or somewhere around that time.
Every Breath is really heartbreaking and sad and moving and hopeless but also full of hope and love and family and loss and … so much. Full of all those beautiful and heartbreaking things a Nicholas Sparks book needs.
We start with 42 year old Zimbabwe tour guide Tru. He’s the grandson of one of the countries’ richest men. But he left home to become a guide for tourists because he didn’t much like his grandfather and step-dad.
Tru has a 10 year old son with his ex-wife and an estranged step-dad and 2 half brothers who live in his grandfather’s mansion.
When he receives a letter from America, he decides to follow the invitation. It’s a letter from his biological father. A man he never met. And he’s dying. Off to North Carolina he goes. He wants to know about how his late mom met his father.
And on a beach his first morning in America he meets Hope.
She’s staying in her family’s already sold beach home for a friend’s wedding that weekend. Without her boyfriend of seven years. He has to work. The whole relationship is a bit strained.
And then she meets this interesting and handsome guy with all his amazing stories about african wildlife and she’s immediately attracted. She’s never been like this with anyone. And Tru is just as drawn to Hope. But both have so many family obligations and exes or current relationships and he lives in Africa and she lives here … it won’t be easy.
But the reader has an amazing (aka heartbreaking aka crying rivers of tears) time reading about their journey to a hopefully happy end. But since this is a Sparks book … we’re not yet sure if there will be happy end. What we do know – or what I realized at the 13% mark when something was mentioned – is that it will definitely be a very sad and heartbreaking book … but also a book so full of love and hope. I don’t know what more to say. It’s a Nicholas Sparks book, so you know what could happen, what might happen. BUT that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t read it. I loved and hated every single word. Such a beautiful love story. My heart broke a million times for … Nope – I’m not telling you more about the story. I loved it. The End.
5 stars–EVERY BREATH by Nicholas Sparks is a stand alone love story focusing on forty-two year divorced father and safari tour guide Tru Walls, and thirty-six year old, trauma nurse Hope Anderson.
Told from third person perspectives EVERY BREATH takes the reader back to the year 1990 focusing on one week in the life of forty-two year divorced father and African safari tour guide Tru Walls, and thirty-six year old, trauma nurse Hope Anderson. Tru Walls, a safari guide born and raised in Zimbabwe, has come to America in search of answers about his mother and her past. Meeting trauma nurse Hope Anderson stirred something deep within our story line hero, something he would always remember including the love for a woman who was torn between head and heart. Fast forward to 2014 wherein Tru will reconnect with the woman he has never stopped loving only to discover she has never stopped loving him in return.
Divided into two parts (1990 and 2014) EVERY BREATH is a story based in reality brought about by a journal and letters found in an isolated mailbox called Kindred Spirit near the dunes of Sunset Beach, North Carolina. The mailbox, belonging to everyone and no one, is a treasury of love letters from the lost; stories of then and now; a place for dreams and happily ever afters to live on when someone dies. Nicholas Sparks uses artistic license to spin a love story spanning decades focusing on two people whose lives went in opposite directions eventually meeting to form their own happily ever after. Reflective in nature EVERY BREATH reconnects with the past revealing twenty-plus years of pain, heartache, failures and success eventually meandering back to Sunset Beach where it all began.
An imaginative, heart breaking and emotional story line EVERY BREATH looks at love and loss; family and duty; reconnection, dreams, and hope. Uniquely Nicholas Sparks EVERY BREATH is a wonderful love story that will captivate and enchant as you reflect upon your own life of what ifs and whys. Every city and town should have their own ‘Kindred Spirit’ in the hopes of living on in the minds of others.
Nicholas Sparks has done it again! I’ve read every book he has written, and this is one of his best. He grabs you at the first page, and you don’t want it to end. He is such a romantic writer!
Nicolas Sparks never fails to write a classic, realistic simple love story. Rich characters, great detail. This one will squeeze your heart and make you sigh.
I really enjoyed this audiobook. Something about Nicolas Sparks books amaze me. Take me into the story and make me feel like I am right there watching these characters from a far. About Book:
Two people coming to island/ beach for two different reasons. Meeting each other and knowing that something about one another felt right. But one having to make a choice to leave and never looking back. Again forever beautiful story and one I plan rereading.
I always want more….I hate it when I get to end. So Good. I have read all his books.
A beautiful love story.
I loved the book and literally could not put it down! It made me believe in love again!!
I loved Every Breath!! I have read many of Nicolas Sparks’ books and l think this is my favorite. The characters were extremely likable and human, the plot was well developed.
Typical for Nicholas Sparks’ books the story was set in North Carolina and the main characters fell in love at first sight. Though, I liked that love interests came from different parts of the country, showing that the one you are meant to be with might not always be “right around the corner”. I would have liked to have read more in Tru’s POV and get more of a feel for his homeland. The story was fast-paced, dealing with long-lost love (lovers). Sparks is a great author and I do enjoy his novels.
Loved this book-couldn’t put it down!
This book was so good. It had so much emotion involved and you really weren’t sure what was going to happen. I don’t want to spoil anything for you but sometimes it isn’t always a happy ending! Will 10/10 be reading it again!
5 stars – hadn’t read a Nicholas Sparks book in awhile and thought this would be a nice quick read while laying out. It was a quick read, but I’m glad no one else was around as I was crying by the end. Forgot how moving these books are and I was moved. Def saving the other book for when a good cry is needed highly recommend as it makes you think which is just what I was needing!
This was a great book and it was so hard to stop reading.
Loved this book and the twists to it
I loved this book. I really enjoyed this book. I couldn’t put it down. It also made me see things from around the world. I also want to visit the mailbox.
I love Nicholas Sparks books!
I haven’t read a Nicholas Sparks book in years, so this was a real treat. Touching, uplifting, and unique with the “self-insertion” he does. The Notebook is still my favorite, but I definitely recommend this one.
Nicholas Sparks is one of my favorite romance novelists. I have read several of his novels and always find myself emotionally invested. I almost always shed a tear for the characters. His novels draw me in and I can feel what the characters are going through. For some reason this novel didn’t draw me in as much.
I did like the character Hope and the fact that she was trying to make her six-year relationship with her boyfriend work. In her heart she knew something was off with her current relationship. When Tru came into her life something just clicked and she knew he was the right person for her—but her current relationship and other things kept them apart.
I really wanted to love this novel but for some reason I didn’t feel all of the emotions I normally do with Mr. Sparks novels. I felt like Hope and Tru’s relationship was rushed and not well developed. It was still a good read and well written so I gave it four stars.
