“This series is one that is so unique and intriguing because it is a look at history and myth that has not been done and that no one else could come up with making this truly a Donna Grant masterpiece.” – Michelle, The Romance Witch reviewsNew York Times bestselling author Donna Grant “skillfully melds history and legend” (RT Book Reviews) in a thrilling series – The Kindred. To live in the light, … live in the light, they hunt in the dark…
Traumatized by the most devastating event imaginable, Synne has one thing on her mind: ridding the world of the Coven. The witches and their evil allies took away everything she held dear, and not even her beloved trees can quell the rising grief and darkness seeping into her soul. However, when she crosses paths with a sexy-as-sin Scotsman, her way of thinking changes, and she discovers things about herself even she wouldn’t have guessed.
Lachlan MacCullum, next in line to rule his clan, never expected to have his world turned upside down. But the moment he lays eyes on the gorgeous Hunter, he knows he will never be the same. In addition to making him feel things he never thought possible, she opens him to a world he’d nearly forgotten about. Now, he’s consumed by the need to help her. And win her heart.
With Sybbyl on the loose and out for domination, and another bone of the First Witch close at hand, reaching the Varroki and joining forces is paramount. Unfortunately, that’s easier said than done. Evil has a way of thwarting even the best-laid plans. At least they have each other. But for how long?

I received this book as an ARC, but have not read the previous books, in the series. Donna Grant, is one of my favorite Authors and once again, she did not disappoint. DG has a way of bringing you into her stories and bringing her characters to life. The way the book is written, you will be able to keep up with the story line, but I suggest to start from book #1. This is definitely, a must buy.
Evernight ARC Review: Every time I start reading one of Donna Grants books I can not put them down! Donna Grant’s amazingly wonderful imagination takes us on adventure with a beautiful Hunter Synne on a quest to find Varroki a legendary group to help defeat the evil Coven.
In Synne’s quest she comes upon Lachlan MacCullum a handsome Scottish warrior who is instantly drawn to her and wants to aide her in this quest.
This is book 4 in the Kindred series and will leave you on the edge of your seat to see what happens next! This amazing book takes us on a journey with these 2 characters and their undeniable attraction with each other. This is the first time I have read one of the Kindred books and I am definitely keen to read the first books. There is just enough in this book to lead the way into the next plus leave you wanting to read the previous ones. Donna Grant you have an amazing talent in so many different genres.
All I can say is Donna Grant you are an amazing Author you have nailed it again. Now I am trying to put many puzzle pieces together to figure out what’s going to happen in the next book. I am giving this book 5 stars Donna Grant’s books are so easy to read and if you haven’t read her books before this one will certainly leave you wanting more. Pre order or buy now you will not be disappointed I am so looking forward to all the future novels as the stories continue.
Thank you so much Donna Grant for taking our imaginations on this new adventure.
In Donna Grant fashion, this story is built with an intriguing world. The characters are strong and bigger than life. I enjoyed Synne and Lachlan’s story. Synne is a strong heroine with a vulnerable heart that made her feel genuine. Lachlan was a true warrior and a Scotsman that we all love. It was a page turner from the very beginning. If you enjoy reading a world full of witches and magic… you’ll want to dive into this series.
**I wouldn’t recommend reading this book without reading the previous books in the series.**
Book 4 in the series. Splendidly blending myth and magic into an engaging plot. Donna continues to draw readers into her worlds.
Donna Grant is on my Must Buy list because she has the ability to create some of the most incredible worlds. Evernight is book 4 of the Kindred series. The Kindred series is filled w/ magic, witches, warlocks, hunters, and the evil Coven. While you don’t have to read books 1 thru 3, I would highly recommend it to get the full storyline.
Synne is a hunter who just lost everything she knows and loves. Now she is heading to battle. Heading to join the Varokki in their fight against the Coven. She knows she doesn’t have magic and will probably die, but she doesn’t fear death. Now she only seeks vengeance for her adopted family.
Lachlen is a warrior who fights for his people and his father (his Laird).
Donna Grant once again gives us an incredible story and a such vivid imagery that you can’t help but sink into Evernight and follow Synne and Lachlen on their journey.
Can’t wait for the story to continue!!
Evernight is the fourth book in Donna Grant’s The Kindred Series. Unlike some of Ms. Grant’s other series, The Kindred Series is not connected to any of her other series. The Kindred is a book about witches, warlocks, and magic. This is my first book in this series that I have read, receiving an ARC for my true and honest opinion. Jumping into the series the fourth book did not diminish my ability to understand the story so far. Ms. Grant is spectacular at providing the backstory and what has happened so far in the story line so that it does not feel like a giant info-dump of backstory and information of The Kindred World. Evernight is the story of Synne, a Hunter, and Lachlan, a Highlander. I loved their story and the building of their relationship. I enjoyed the book so much that I went ahead and purchased the other books in the series and intend to read them next.
I would recommend Evernight to anyone looking for a book to cuddle up under a blanket in the corner of your couch to read during your social distancing.
This is the 4th book in the Kindred series. A Hunter named Synne is on a mission to avenge her family that was killed. On her way she meets a Warrior named Lachlan. At first Synne is warry of Lachlan but they soon learn they have more in common than they thought. Just as every other book I have read by Donna Grant this book was amazing and I can’t wait for the next in the series.
Synne is determined to ride the world of the Coven, especially since they took away everything she holds dear. While making her way to the Varroki she crosses paths with a sexy Scotsman who decides to help in the fight against the Coven. He also helps her work through her grief.
This book had another good couple, another First Witch bone, and another battle against Coven witches. This was another instalove relationship but I still enjoyed it. Lachlan was a great hero who was protective of Synne and his clan. I really enjoyed how Synne changed his view on what women can and can’t do. I love when a hero realizes that some views against women are wrong and wants to change them. Lachlan was just a great hero who you knew would risk everything for love.
Synne is struggling to deal with the grief from the death of her adopted family. She has turned it into anger and is set on revenge. Lachlan helps her realize that won’t bring them back and helps her work through some of her grief. While Synne is a hunter, she hasn’t had as much experience as the previous heroines. She has stayed closer to the abby and used her ability to communicate with the trees to protect it. She was a more insecure heroine as well. For the first part of this book she doubts herself, and her abilities, a lot. This got a little old after a while but is understandable since her whole world changed quickly, I just wish it hadn’t felt so repetitive.
Overall, another great addition to the series. I can’t wait to see what will happen next now that four of the First Witches bones have been found.
This is the first Kindred book I have read. Even being several books into the series I was able to pick it up and follow along. Lachlan knows what his role in life is with his clan, while Synne is picking up the pieces from an attack from the Coven. There is enough info in the first few chapters to catch you up if you haven’t read all the other books. I loved how Synne and Lachlan complimented each other’s strengths and weaknesses. I will definitely be going back and reading the rest of the series while I wait for the next installment.
Evernight is the first book in the Kindred series I have read. The author does an excellent job of describing past events, so at no time did I feel lost. There was decent intrigue involved in the battle between Hunter and Witches. Once the action ramped up, I was fully engaged in Synne and Lachlan’s story.
I usually enjoy my paranormal romances in an urban setting, but for the battle fought in Evernight, the medieval Scottish background was fitting.
It did take me a little while to get into this book. Perhaps reading prior novels would have helped attach me more to the events transpiring. In the end, it was worth a read, especially for those who are faithful fans of a medieval paranormal romance.
Synne is a Hunter, trained to kill witches.
Lachlan is a Highlander, trained for battle to protect his lands and his people.
There paths cross as Synne is passing through MacCallum lands trying to get to the Varroki stronghold after the abbey she called home was destroyed by a power hungry witch and The Coven.
I like the fact that Synne wasn’t sure she should tell Lachlan her story for he might think her crazy. While he took a few pages to fall in line he accepted what she said as truth and offered to join her on her quest. I mean if she fails this could eventually bring destruction to his people.
They both learn interesting secrets about themselves from other interesting creatures they meet. Mostly they find each other and how strong they feel for one another. I like the fact Synne is a trained killer and he isn’t turned off by it. He asks her if she could be married to a laird, She replies only if he could be comfortable married to a Hunter who is going to train women on weapons.
Now this is the 4th book of the series but my 1st so a couple of the other characters, I need more information on them. How they fit into this world. Where they with the Coven or against. Who or what exactly is the First Witch and why are her bones so important?
Still a good book. Fairly easy to follow. Action and romance nicely blended. I think I’ll continue on and see what happens.
Open this new book by Donna Grant and enter a world full of imaginary creatures and magical characters. Love, desire, suspense all woven into a story that grabs your attention from the first page. Who will win the age old war of good and evil?
This is a fantastic story. If you are not familiar with or into magical characters this is a great way to begin a new realm.
This book was received as an ARC from Donna Grant’s ARC Angels, the following opinions and commentary are my own and no way reflect the greater DG Groupie Community. This book is a part of the Kindred series, and is not related to any other series and is set in a different world to other series.
Synne is a Hunter, not the normal kind, her prey is members of the Coven. Both the Hunters and the Coven are on a search for the bones of the First Witch. This bow wielding hunter is different from the other orphans as she communes with trees. Her search leads her on to MacCullum land, and a run in with the son of the Laird, Lachlan.
Lachlan is not only the future Laird but is also the descendant of witches. He finds a the lovely Synne crossing his lands and decides to help her on her quest. What neither expect to find, is love in arms of each other—among other things.
Donna Grant is a great paranormal romance writer, and has many different worlds to choose from. This is an excellent novella, to transport to another world for a few hours.
Synne had her entire life destroyed in one moment, and the pain is devastating. As she travels north to join the Varroki there is only one thing on her mind. Revenge. Until she finds herself with a companion on her travels. A laird who’s land she crossed into on her way north. Lachlan is fierce and strong and has offered to take her north, to join her in her fight. It will be a hard and unpleasant journey, but they must travel fast as evil is after them. Long untold secrets will come to light and evil may just get the upper hand if they are no vigilant. Their love is as fierce as their will to fight evil and together they may just make a difference.
I read the first book in this series and then jumped to book 4 (just behind on books) and I felt like while I missed quite a bit, I wasn’t lost!
Donna puts bits and pieces from previous books to help this one flow smoothly, as a stand alone of sorts, but to help you get a feel for Synne and her story.
She is fresh off of heartbreak and grieving in her own way to make sense of her life. Lachlan is a man who is sure of himself and that alone really helps her. While I can’t say much more in fear of true spoilers, I can say that this world is very intriguing and will pull you in!
I have always gravitated to Donna’s books and this is something I feel everyone should read!
EVERNIGHT is the fourth full-length instalment in Donna Grant’s adult THE KINDRED paranormal, fantasy series set in the mythological world of magic, witches and warlocks, hunters and the Gira. This is Synne, and Lachlan MacCullums story line. EVERNIGHT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from several third person perspectives including Synne and Lachlan, EVERNIGHT follows Synne, a young woman who believes she is without magic but a woman with the ability to talk to the trees. On a personal journey to avenge the deaths of the couple who raised her like their own, Synne , trained as a Hunter to hunt and kill the members of the Coven and their powerful leader Sybbyl, will come face to face with Lachlan MacCullum, the man with whom Synne will fall in love. In an effort to cross the MacCullum clan lands, Lachlan and Synne will journey together while discovering a few truths alone the way. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Synne and Lachlan, as Synne will cross paths with her past revealing the secret of her own magical powers.
EVERNIGHT ( and the Kindred Series) is an infinitely detailed story line. Donna Grant weaves an intricate world of magic, vengeance, power and control with enchanted creatures including the nymph like tree creatures known as the Gira, and the Varroki, a group of witches and warlocks who have battled the Coven since the First Witch died. Anyone possessing the bones of the First Witch will be granted immense power, and with that information Sybbyl goes in search, destroying anyone who tries to deter her mission.
Donna Grant pulls the reader into a fascinating and captivating tale of one woman’s journey of revenge and retribution against the Coven and anyone who is willing to stand in her way. The premise is engaging and intriguing; the romance is passionate; the characters are numerous, energetic and magical.
Amazing read!! Love all the book in this series and with lines like “Hold onto me lass cling to the pleasure” how can you not want to read it! Synne and Lachlan’s story continues the quest to end the Coven. It’s spins a tale that draws you in and doesn’t let go all you can do is hope the next book is quick in coming!
Synne had lost everything but was determined to continue the mission she has trained her whole life for. Lachlan is going to be the Laird of his clan one day – family is very important to him. A fateful encounter led Lachlan to find Synne on his clan’s land. Something from his past made it easy for him to believe Synne’s tales of magic & the danger that was coming to the Highlands.
Synne & Lachlan’s journey to the truth, the danger and each other was a fantastic journey for me as a reader. Donna Grant creates such vivid worlds and characters that you heart races when theirs do, you fell fear when the character is afraid and you fall in love with the characters while they fall in love with each other.
Synne was a heartbreaking and courageous heroine and Lachlan was what every Highlander should be. I was not ready for this book to end – I am not ready for this series to end with the next book! The Hunters, the Varroki and the Coven have more stories to tell us and I will eagerly await the next tale.
Favorite Quote: “Survive this night, lass. You hold my heart in your hands, and we have many years ahead of us.”
Evernight was everything I’ve come to expect from this author and I was transported for a few hours into a world of hunters, witches, warlocks, covens, and magical tree beings. I love these stories because they’re a nice break from reality and they’re short enough to be enjoyed in a single day. The overarching series plot continues in this latest Kindred installment, with the heroine of this story-Synne-setting out on a path towards vengeance. Along the way she meets up with a Scottish laird that steals her heart while aiding her. Lachlan is supportive of Synne, but hopes to sway her from her path because he knows it will not bring her happiness. As the two journey together, they cross paths with Coven witches and other beings. More pieces of the puzzle of Synne’s life are brought to light, and she learns that while she may not have magic, she is still an integral part to the story being played out. One of my favorite things about this author’s writing is that she pays just as much attention to the villains (and would be villains) of her stories, giving them interesting back stories and plot lines that intersect in such interesting ways. I was completely captivated by all of the goings-on and am anxious to learn the fate of the two witch sisters, especially in regards to Sybbyl.
Synne is on the run from the Coven when she encounters Lachlan. The two had an instant connection and Lachlan insists on accompanying her on her quest to find the Varoki, home of the witches who are working to defeat the Coven.
This is the first book I’ve read of the series, but there was enough back story that I was never confused, but more intrigued and rapidly fell into the story. The twists at the end left me breathless and anxious for the next book in the series.
