Hudson And Riley’s Sweet And Heartbreaking Story Is A Slow Burn Romance That Begins In First Grade And Spans Fifteen Years!
Riley, twenty-one, has been in love with Hudson Blake most of her young life. He had briefly been the bane of her existence, but he soon became her protector. His sister Eden had become her best friend, so she spent a lot of time at his house growing up. He had been a fixture in her life since age six. She saw less of him when he went away to college of course, but she had always hoped that they might one day be together, and she had reason to hope that he might feel the same about her. She could have gone to a highly ranked school, but when it came time to apply to college she knew following Hudson to State and studying journalism was the right choice for her.
Hudson Blake, twenty-four, is atoning for his sin. Broody and broken, he has a single focus. He tries to block out all thoughts of Riley since he can never be with her. She had been like a second sister to him, but when she turned fifteen his feelings for her began to change – which was wrong for so many reasons. He was supposed to be her protector. She was his little sister’s best friend – not to mention that she was too young. But going away to college had separated them, and soon their lives had drifted apart.
Hudson and Riley’s sweet and heartbreaking story is a slow burn romance that begins in first grade and spans fifteen years. Hudson is adorably kind to little Riley. He has a deep sense of responsibility, which is both good and bad. Riley is sweet and innocent. Their conversations are cute. They make an adorable couple, and watching their story develop over the years is endearing. The couple eventually earns their happy ending.
There are a few issues that merit mention. *Spoilers* First, it is a little difficult to follow why Hudson is still living away at State a few yeas after graduation, and unclear what he is doing there. Also, there appears to be a typo when Riley is said to be eighteen. She should have been seventeen at the beginning of her senior year of high school. Next, that Hudson suddenly gets involved in a certain activity at age twenty-four and immediately excels in it despite fierce competition seems a little convenient. And that Hudson takes things to such extremes in terms of his sense of responsibility and the resultant actions, feels a bit dramatic. Finally, it is hard to imagine a four year gap in time could take place without them seeing one another or without addressing their outstanding issues.
Hudson and Riley’s tender story is a quick read about patient love. It is nicely written. The plot is fairly simple but there are a few twists. The story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Hudson and Riley. I rate this book four stars.
I received a copy of this book and audiobook and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved Hudson. He promised to protect Riley when they were both young and he kept that promise until he left for college. As they grew older, they went their separate ways but are reunited & tragedy strikes tearing them apart again. This is a fantastic second chance love story with everything you hope to find in a J.S. Cooper novel.
I read this book to do a review on for the author. The story line covers the friendship/relationship and trials and tribulations of two young people, Hudson and Riley, from adolescence to young adulthood. It a very sweet love story but if I’m being honest while reading I thought it was a little juvenile at certain parts to me, but I continued reading it anyway and the story line picked up and became a little more matured. Regardless I enjoyed reading it and I feel this book is a good read for a much younger audience than myself.
Kindle unlimited For honest review. Hudson has looked after Riley since she was 6yrs old and her mom had him looking out after her since the bus and as they grow older this is their story . Sad and beautiful.
This book offers lots of angst, emotional turmoil, tragedy, drama, lies and secrets. Hudson and Riley’s tale will put your heart through the wringer as it unfolds. I liked this very emotional read.
