Evenfall had an interesting premise and a fascinating magic system, but I felt it could have befitted from better editing.
The characters were all very enjoyable, and I liked the dialogue a lot. If the rest of the story had been written as well as the dialogue, I feel I would have enjoyed this more.
I found the inner monologue and descriptive paragraphs to be lacking interest. They failed to captivate me.
This might be a book for some people to enjoy, if they want something easy to read. You can kind of turn your brain off and just enjoy being in a magical world for a while.
This book by Gaga & Boris Kos was a very entertaining action adventure combined with magical fantasy, and definitely geared for the young adult reading crowd. The main characters fell on both sides of the good vs evil scale during their struggle and goal of trying to save the three realms in their world. It was also a rather good example of not judging a book by the cover lesson as the story develops. The magic and illusions are used for both good and bad depending on the reader’s point of view. This is a very late voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Booksprout.
Rich, full ambience descriptions and deep seated emotional narrative capture the reader’s attention from the very beginning immerging us in a magical world.

Oh man, what a ride! I’m so upset that I sat on this book for so long because it was such a fun read!! The characters in this book are top-notch and I am 100% on board for the second one. Mordecai is everything I wanted The Darkling to be in Shadow and Bone, so don’t mind me swooning in the corner over here.
Admittedly the beginning half of this book was a little slow. I really loved the story and that we’re dropped in this new world with Ember. It was so fun learning everything WITH her and trying to put all the puzzle pieces together. But this also meant a lot of explanations and history lessons of the universe. I didn’t mind too much because what we learn is interesting, but it doesn’t exactly make for an exciting plot.
We do get to meet a lot of fun characters though and getting to know them was my favorite part of the first half! Eriyan and Dantos are my FAVORITE and I can’t wait for more of their banter in the next book!! I also really really loved Ember and felt such a strong connection to her character. She’s not strong in the literal physical sense, but she has a quiet inner strength and a great sense of humor.
When you reach the halfway mark on this thing though, LOOK OUT. Because the plot takes off and I couldn’t put this down! I was literally sneaking reads in the bathroom at work by the end. Mordecai is such an awesome morally grey villain and I LOVED IT. First of all, his name is so cool?? And he was such a layered character, it was so fun to watch his relationship with Ember unfold.
I’m hoping that in book two we get to explore the world a little more. We get some really cool glimpses of it in the beginning, but I couldn’t help wishing for a little more exploration. Understandably, Ember is a tad distracted being on the run for her life and all, so it didn’t bother me too much. But my fingers are crossed for more next time because this universe seems awesome!
↬ FINAL WORD

I loved the way the new world was described and the beauty of it. The characters were what to be expected in a kind of fairy tale but I liked the story.
I also think the style is really part of the magic of the book.

Evenfall by Gaja J. Kos this is book number one in this series. I am so glad I got to read this story and I fell in love with all the strong characters and the wonderful story line. I can not wait to see what the author will write in book number two to continue on with this wonderful story. I lvoed reading this story so much.

This is a slow build story, but if you persist, it will be worth it. Ember is a no nonsense heroine who stands up for herself and won’t be a pawn.
The Crescent Prince is indescibeable. Your opinion of him will change in the course of the story.
Be warned there is a cliffhanger .

Be prepared readers! This storyline is complex, so the set up can take its toll on the unsuspecting or the impatient. The details are impeccable though and the creativity and imagination truly shows. As I said, this storyline is complex, giving you opposing views to situations and leaving you second guessing your own thoughts towards who you are rooting for as well as the whys. You won’t get resolution yet ( cliffhanger) but you really will want book 2 once you get fully immersed! All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
The beginning took me a while to really get into it. Not slow and confusing enough to want to stop reading, but still difficult at first. Once I began to understand things, it got very interesting. A rich world with complex characters. My favorite quote from this story is:
“The truth always had many faces. I had never accepted only one and discarded the rest simply because they didn’t fit into the way I viewed the world.”
This book had my heart racing as Ember went through some of her struggles, especially at the end. Be warned that there is a cliffhanger ending. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book. Given Ember’s quest and the events of this one, I would guess that this will end up being a three book story.
