Hazel Hunter is an amazing writer. This is book 3 of a continuing series (book 4 is about to be released). This series mixes time travel, immortal warriors with battle spirits, Druid people, a mad (insane) Druid couple intent on destroying mankind using their immortal tree creations, and there is always a love story brewing in the background. Like many TV shows, there is always other things going on besides the GOOD vs EVIL thing. I devour her books and always complete them in 2-3 days and are left sad because I have to wait for the next installment.
Evander, is a thrilling romance built around breathtaking characters you will never forget.
Fun book love the plot twists
Great read
Time travel romance novel.
One of my favorite series and authors
Wow! I didn’t expect the ending of this one. Such an intriguing storyline, that was extremely hard to put down. Rachel and Evander are lost and damaged souls, who are attracted to each other from the start. They manage to alleviate the other’s stress and pain, while growing closer together. Lots of action and suspense in this book, with awesome characters and a twist you don’t see coming. This series just gets better and better. I needed my tissues again towards the end as well.
I will admit up front – tears. While I like a book that can make me feel, I certainly didn’t expect it from this one. Which is not to say I haven’t enjoyed the previous two stories – I did. But, Evander.
Having read the first two, I did wonder how Evander was going to find his redemption. He found it in spades. In this one, he truly learned to love and put others first.
Like the previous two tales, Rachel ends up involuntarily leaving 21st century America for 14th century Scotland. Evander finds her at the exact needed time, rescues her, and helps her recover and adjust to her new surroundings. Having seen Kinley arrive (Book 1) and adjust, he is at least familiar with what is happening and aware that it is most probably important. It is good to see two hurt souls take their time learning to be friends, heal their hurts, and then be open to more.
When the outside intrudes on their little bubble, Evander and Rachel are already it for each other. The lengths they are willing to go to for each other, as well as the clan, are the stuff of real heroes. Satisfying end – including a very medieval end to David’s treachery.
Well written and well edited. Truly enjoying this series. Looking forward to Tormod’s tale.
This is a tale of love changing the nature of a man and his ultimate sacrifice to save the clan. Both Evander and Rachel have suffered great loss. Rachel, her parents and then her own life and Evander, losing Fiona to the plague after only a couple years with him. Together they are stronger and Rachel’s gift is much needed in the clan. New and disturbing information is revealed and not just about the undead, it will be interesting to see where the author takes us next.
I love love love this author. She surprises me in each book. At first, I felt sorry for and sort of hated Evander in the book Lachlan, but in this book you can’t help but call in love with him as Rachel does. These characters stay with you. If you like Sherelyn Kenyon, Christine Feehan, and Diana Gabaldon, then you have to read Hazel Hunter!
Too much graphic sex in this series….
FABULOUS ADDITION TO THE SERIES & MY NEW FAVORITE !!!
Title: Evander
Series: Immortal Highlander
Author: Hazel Hunter
Designation: Book Three of Series, Full-Length Standalone, No Cliffhanger, Medieval Historical/Time Travel/Fantasy Romance
Reading Platform: Kindle Edition
My Rating: Five Sexy Riveting Stars*****
**Disclaimer: Although there is an underlying interconnected storyline running throughout the series, each release focuses primarily on one couple finding love and their happy ending. I believe each of the books can still be read as standalones. The author does a fabulous job of giving the reader sufficient backstory, but I recommend reading the books in order of their release. It’s one decision I’m sure you’ll rever regret.
Oh my! I loved, loved, loved this book! I’m fascinated by stories featuring mythology, folklore, and fantasy, adore Time Travel Romance, infatuated with Medieval Historical Fiction, addicted to steamy romance, obsessed with strong, sassy heroines, completely smitten with sexy Scottish Highlanders from any century, and when I can find it all in one great read, I’m in heaven! And that’s exactly what Hazel Hunter delivered in Evander, the third riveting release in her new Immortal Highlander Series! There are so many things I truly enjoyed about this book so let’s talk details!
Evander is a captivating, imaginative, fast-paced, exceptionally well-crafted and edited, full-length standalone historical medieval time travel romance with paranormal, supernatural, and fantasy elements, and filled to the brim with compelling drama, pulse-pounding danger, edge-of-your-seat action, daring adventure, nail-biting suspense, heart-wrenching angst, steamy passion, and heartwarming romance. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with multiple perspectives and this story had quite a few. I stopped counting at seven! lol… In some instances, multiple points of view can be somewhat confusing to a reader if they aren’t skillfully written, but Hunter does an excellent job. All the perspectives are clearly discernible by chapters. I always enjoy stories written with clearly defined multiple perspectives. It allows me to know the thoughts of all the primary characters, not just the protagonists, and I especially love it when we know what’s going on in the convoluted minds of the bad guys. I think it adds so much more depth and understanding of the story. The dialogue is smart, snappy, and flows effortlessly. Obviously, Hunter did her research. I found the language and terminology of the era to be articulate, exceptionally well executed and authentic to the era. In other words, Hunter’s fourteenth-century characters spoke like fourteenth-century Scottish Highlanders. In reality, none of us would be able to understand an actual fourteenth-century Highlander, but Hunter did make them sound as realistic as possible, which definitely added to my enjoyment of this story. But without a doubt, my favorite element of all of Hunter’s books is the characters, and this story is no exception. Hunter gives us a large cast of intriguing, engaging, and well-developed characters who literally explode from the pages, grab your imagination, demand your undivided attention, and completely capture your heart. I fell head over heels for the two protagonists, present-day heiress Rachael Ingram and fourteenth-century immortally cursed Scottish Highlander Evander Talorc. OMG! I loved these two characters! Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed all the characters but the lovely, heroic Rachel Ingram grabbed me in the first few pages of the book, and I became completely obsessed with surly, ill-mannered, totally despicable, and completely unlikable Pritani warrior Evander Talorc when he was introduced in the first book of the series as the woman-hating and always disgruntled Sensechal for Clan McDonnel of the Island of Skye. In Book 2, Evander became even more detestable when he betrayed his clan for Fiona Marphee, a woman from a nearby village who’d served as a spy for the undead Roman Legion. The two fled together, never to be heard from again – or so everyone thought. Personally, I suspected we’d not heard the last of Evander and was ecstatic when I learned the third book would be devoted to his story. I’ve always been intrigued by an unrepentant, but hopefully redeemable antihero and Evander Talorc fit the bill perfectly. He’s the kind of character everyone loves to hate, which made him all the more interesting! And Rachel Ingram’s story just broke my heart! OMG, I was blubbering like a baby before the end of the first chapter. But the interaction between this unlikely couple is truly remarkable and completely mesmerizing. Their attraction is undeniable and their fate inescapable. Unlike the other couples of the series, when Evander and Rachel meet, you know it can only be fate. Both Evander and Rachel are grieving over past mistakes and desperately try to deny what’s between them, resulting in a slow, sensual and very steamy burn, the likes of which can neither be ignored nor denied. But once they finally surrender to their feelings, it’s katie-bar-the-door! Oh my! Sparks fly and passion ignites! Evander and his war spirit are totally bada$$! lol…There wasn’t as much humor, but there was just as much emotion, if not more, in this story. Heck, I think I sobbed through the entire book! I still have whiplash from all the plot twists, and there were quite a few scenes that just ripped my heart right out of my chest but by the end, I was happy, satisfied, well entertained, and completely smitten with Evander Talorc! Well done, Hazel Hunter! Well done, indeed! Evander is my new favorite! I have no idea how Hunter will top this book, but I have every confidence she will!!!
Did I like this book? No, I loved it! I was glued to my seat, white knuckling my ereader, completely captivated with my heart fluttering wildly in my chest as the time flew as quickly as the pages! I could not stop reading! I’m totally smitten with this entire series and can hardly wait to see what Hunter has in store for her readers in Book 4! I’ve already preordered my copy! Would I recommend it? You bet and I a but only for adult readers since it does contain several explicit love scenes! If you enjoy well-written medieval historical tales with supernatural elements, and liberally seasoned with time travel, action adventure, danger, drama, passion, and romance, then this book is screaming your name! And if you loved the movie and series Highlander, this story will, most likely, tickle your fancy! Will I read this author again? Absolutely! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
Shortly after losing her only family in a fire, wealthy heiress Rachel Ingram marries David Carver, the son of her influential parents’ trusted attorney. But instead of the happy honeymoon picnic her new husband promised, Rachael receives a dreadful surprise. Only hours after their wedding, Rachel’s new husband stabs her in the back – literally – and buries her alive. Too bad her lifelong intuition about people failed her when she needed it most. She’d never been able to get a read on David and should have suspected it was because he was an unfeeling monster, incapable of love. Unfortunately, Rachel discovers too late he only wanted her for her newly inherited billions. But instead of dying, the blood from her mortal wound activates her Druid ancestry and transports Rachel through a magical portal to the Highlands of Scotland, 800 years in the past. And straight into the arms of the traitorous, cursed, immortal Highlander, Evander Talorc, who had been about to take his own life at the grave of Fiona Marphee. Oh my! Rachael awakens with no idea where she is or how she survived, but the one thing she does know is the fierce, frightening warrior Evander Talorc may be her only hope of remaining alive. Will the unlikely pair find a way to avoid their enemies, save each other, and possibly find true love in the process? We’ll see! Buckle up, my lovelies. Evander and Rachael’s story is one heck of a wild ride!
If you are a fan of time-travel, Highlanders, and a fast-paced, thrilling story then this one is for you. It is a stand alone story that is part of the Highlander’s series. And although it is a stand-alone, you will want all of the books because they build on the characters and the time-travel. Enthralling, thrilling and soulful.
