Okay, so maybe taking powers from an ancient, unfathomable being wasn’t the best idea…When the school was in danger, taking a helping hand from Nature seemed like the only option. But now the Council of Light are asking to examine my magic, and I get the sense that I’m just a pawn in their game of political chess. If they decide that my connection to Nature makes me a threat, or worse, discover … Nature makes me a threat, or worse, discover my connection to Maria Brown, the criminal they’re still trying to catch, I’m screwed.
If I want to survive, I’ll have to learn the rules of their game. And fast…

Ethics of Magic (Ember Academy for Young Witches Book 4) by L.C. Mawson is such an amazing story that I have read. This is book number four in this amazing series that I have loved reading and I was hooked since reading book number one in this series and all it did was get better as the story line went on. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about magic and withes.
I read a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of this book & am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.
This book is an excellent addition to the series. It is well written and the story and characters are well developed. I love watching the character dynamics evolve and grow through the books. The story is action packed and full of twists and turns. There is suspense, emotion, intrigue and romance. I’d highly recommend this book and the previous books in this series!! I can’t wait for the next book!!
I received an arc for a voluntary review.
Ethics of Magic (Ember Academy for Young Witches, #4), my tenth enjoyable, intricately & tightly woven, page-turning read from author L.C. Mawson. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
Literally spellbinding!
This is a multi-layered tale of myth/history, ancient and new alliances, thoughtless and thoughtful betrayals…with a little bit of quirky romance thrown in. Amelia is still green and growing into her powers, but filled with righteous anger. Her mentor, Maria, continues to be mysterious and cryptic. This is a tremendous series, where some of the Evil is not so Nefarious and some of the Good is a little more Grey. Enjoy the Odyssey as it propels you forward to Book 5!
Ethics of Magic – a review by Rosemary Kenny
Amelia’s magical woes continue, when the corrupt Council imprisons and tortures her to entrap the powerful witch she’s bonded to, Maria Brown, whom they fear because they can’t control her.
Who will free Amelia?
Can she save Maria (and her Aunt Jessie too)?
What happens when Amelia appeals to Nature?
When does Willow reveal her full beauty to Amelia? Where does Amelia’s sister turn up?
So many trials and tribulations to overcome, for a young Angelborn student (and her friends at the locked-down Ember Academy), while she’s exhausted by all the issues that have to be resolved, before her life – and the Academy’s future – can get back to something like their usual selves…no wonder she sleeps so deeply, given the chance!
I highly recommend this well-written, exquisitely detailed and wonderful 5th book in the Ember Academy series by the fantastic L.C. Mawson, Ethics of Magic, (plus all the previous ones) to all lovers of fantasy, supernatural magic, tender love scenes and epic fights for justice and peace for Amelia and all her fellow students and tutors at the Hogwarts-like Academy. More please, Ms Mawson!
A wonderful continuation to the series
I loved it. Great series.
Like many of the titles in this series, I found this title to be a challenge to read. While I enjoy the main characters in the story, the tyrannical, magical rulers make it all to much like the tyrannical despots leading countries in our time. I have no idea what will come next, but it seems like a good time for Willow’s father to exercise his skills. I found the ending of this book less than satisfying. I can only hope for improvements in future titles.
I received a copy of this book as a gift. This is my honest review.
ONE THRILLING MAGICAL LANDSLIDE!!!
Swing, batter swing! Mawson blasts through like a thief in the night with this 100% on point realism, locked and loaded, knocking out one artfully composed, block busting delight, laying out this arresting storyline and gripping plot, launching this bad boy to a whole new level. Satisfaction rocks this gem, bringing it home with such intensity and precision, riding roughshod and imparting one jaw dropping dynamo, launching this baby to a whole new level. Obliterating the boundaries and pushing the limits, laying out strong suits and short straws, getting weighed and balanced, bouncing this gem into the eye of the storm, slamming it into overdrive, launching it into a hissy with a mind-blowing culmination. Carrying the load and towing the line, imparting this action packed, pulse racing, heart pounding, adrenaline pumping, page flipping, block busting bombshell, blasting this baby to a whole new realm. The characters are complex and authentic with qualities and traits that blend and flow, with immense passion and depth, transforming into genuine charismatic personalities. The scenes come alive wonderfully with such abundant details and descriptions creating a colorful backdrop that makes the storyline pop. Remarkable job Mawson, thanks for sharing this lil’ fella with us.
