When one door closes … second chances open another … opportunity he can’t refuse. A chance to do the work he used to do … with a twist.
Cinnamon works from home as a project manager plus is heavily involved in global dog rescues—dogs of all kinds. When Ethan walks into the next door’s vet’s office with an injured shepherd in his arms, she sees another lost soul—just like the canine ones she helps.
Ethan knows he’s about to take a dangerous step, but he’s on the job, and no one—on the job or not—hurts animals while he’s around. This poor shepherd has taken enough abuse, and Ethan fears she is only the tip of a nightmare he’s determined to uncover. But he knows she’s going to lead him in the right direction.
He has his sights set on saving one dog in particular, Sentry: K9 File 01.

Fantastic debut to the K9 Files with unforgettable characters (both human and canine) and a fast-paced story that immediately grabbed my attention and kept me totally immersed in all that was happening and on the edge of my seat until I read the last word. My heart went out to loner Ethan Nebberly, former military K9 handler who agrees to try to locate Military War Dog Sentry, and loved his instant attraction, undeniable chemistry and heartwarming romance with Cinnamon Michelson who is heavily involved in global dog rescue.
Ms. Mayer knocked me for a loop with this original series opener that has the right mix of suspense, action, mystery, romance and dogs. It is a must-read for fans of this genre and I can hardly wait to read book two. I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review. I also purchased a copy of ETHAN for my keeper library.
I love how this connects to Seals of Steel, which is one of my favorite Dale Mayer series. The Titanium Corporation that was discussed at the end of that series kicks off this one. A former Commander calls and asks for help to find War Dogs that are missing and Ethan is the logical choice with his dog training background. On his search for Sentry he meets Cinnamon while saving another injured dog. Does he find Sentry? Do Ethan and Cinnamon make a connection? You’ll have to read!
I enjoyed this suspenseful story. An entertaining blend of emotions, drama and mystery keeps your attention as you read this book. I really liked Ethan and Cinnamon and I look forward to more books in this series.
Ethan, lost after he was injured overseas and his K9 was killed. He was home and only half living his life. Badger and the men from Titanium, hired him to do work building up the “Compound” they lived in. A call came in for help, on a volunteer basis to find K9’s that went missing after the war. Ethan was the perfect fit! Cin is a dog lover, even runs her own pet rescue. When Ethan meets Cin, he finally starts to feel something again! But we need to get through all the bad guys first! They don’t like what Ethan is stirring up and Cin is their target. Dale has done well with book 1 incorporating her older characters in this new series starter. This was a Fantastic read!
I am hooked on this series. I love dogs and this is such a heart tugging series about our furry warriors and their stories.
I love the connection with the guys from the SEALs of Steel series! This new series focuses on rescuing missing K9 dogs and new heroes. There is romance, mystery, and suspense. The story is original and intriguing. This one is going to be a big hit with Seal book fans.
Great first book of a series. Do not know if Ms. Mayer knows a lot about dog training or if she just did her homework but regardless it comes through in her writing as very believable.
Ethan is still trying to find a purpose after his injuries in the war when he is contacted by Badger to find a missing War Dog. While searching he meets up with Cinn and they search together. Cinn is targeted by the drug makers and Ethan must save her.
A different type of story which is enjoyable. Can’t wait for the second book of the series.

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.
This is a wonderful start to a new series, The K9 Files, is a suspenseful series of books about strong alpha men with big hearts looking for missing K9 military dogs, Ethan was injured and his K9 partner killed. Now with the help of Cinnamon (a human woman) who climbs into his heart, they are fighting bad guys and help rescue dogs.
Wonderful story, intriguing storyline and the characters are incredibly likable, the dogs all have their own personalities. Definitely recommend this book.
I was kindly provided this book as an ARC; in exchange for my honest review. This is book 1 in The K9 Files series. This book centers around Ethan and Cinnamon. (yep Cinnamon is a human not the K9…)
Ethan out of the military and lost after a major accident abruptly ended his career and took the life of his working dog. Seemingly drifting, Ethan connects with Badger (see the SEALs Of Steel series) and Badger offers Ethan a chance to work with service dogs again… Tracking down several Military Working Dogs that have gone missing.
Cinnamon works as a project manager and is involved in global dog rescues. (I suppose this “matches” them.
Ethan finds a shepherd that’s injured and meets up with Cinnamon at the neighborhood vets office. And the story moves on from there.
I’m going to preface this; I felt there was just not enough backstory and information in order for me to get firmly involved and committed to this story. The whole thing felt rushed and almost like an outline was followed and little boxes were checked off in what could have been a great beginning to a new series. Working dogs, in my opinion are the greatest heroes in the world. They serve and protect those they love, for cuddles and belly tickles (and maybe a few tennis balls..)
I was very excited about this series and just didn’t feel it hit the mark. I have read everything Ms Dale has published, and I know her work usually flows much more smoothly. Also, I wouldn’t really classify this as a romance, but as more of a mystery/suspense story. I still think the book is worth your time and money.

I love it…I really really love this book. I love everything, the loveable characters, the wildness but awesome K9s that makes me want to have my on shepherd, the suspense that got my heart racing all the time, the sweetness between Ethan and Cinn, and the awesomeness of a K9s handler that so captivating. Although I’m missing the camaraderie that always occurs on Dale Mayer suspense military books, I found Ethan as a loner is quite refreshing, and kinda intensified the suspense, when you’re alone and on a mission to bring down the bad guys, everything felt more intense.
So yes, this book definitely one of my favorite books from Dale Mayer.
If you love suspense romance and a dog lover, you’ll love this book.
Let’s hear it for the War Dogs!
Our Titanium crew from SEALs of Steel are branching out, and this new venture starts with recruiting other vets to help track down a dozen War Dogs whose retirement situations may not be what they should be. Ethan is first up as he is assigned to find out what happened to Sentry. He first tracks another injured shepherd mix and rescues her, and takes her to the local vet where he meets Cinnamon, a fellow animal lover who spends her spare time rescuing dogs from war-torn areas overseas.
Ethan has extensive training as a K9 handler and trainer, so he knows exactly how to reach the injured shepherd, as well as her fellow guard dogs at the drug lab that he tracked her from. Light on the romance but heavy on the action, this romantic suspense tale is filled with non-stop heart-pounding moments as Ethan and Cinn work to keep these dogs safe from those who view them only as weapons.
As much as the goal is to settle the dogs into a good situation, we also see that Ethan likewise needs a new goal and purpose in life, one he finds with these dogs and with Cinn. It’s a sweet romance that will warm the heart of any dog-lover. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I was so excited to learn that a new series was coming out by one of my favorite authors and as soon as I started it, I was ecstatic to realize she pulled in the Hero for Hires and the Seals of Steel characters also. Loved this book right from the start. Read the entire book in one sitting and now going to read book 2
This was such an excellent start to this new series about SEALs and K9s. I’m glad that there is a connection between this series and the SEALs of Steel members who have formed a new company, Titanium Corp. Ethan Nebberly is a loner who is trying to work his way back into civilization after dealing with the injuries that ended his military life. Since he has experience as a K9 trainer, Badger asks him to help out with finding one of the War Dogs that the military has lost touch with.
While trying to help an injured dog, he meets Cinnamon and that is the start of their getting to know each other. As the story progresses, there are some unexpected twists and turns, suspense, romance, and lots of dogs. If you love strong alpha males, resourceful women, and dogs, you will definitely want to read this story. Can’t wait to see where this series goes.
An awesome book in a new series and even got to see some of our favourite characters from other books that Dale writes. Ethan is damaged after getting injured and his trained dog killed. He doesn’t know where he fits in until he is given the task of finding Sentey K9-01. Cinnamon has her dogs, her house with land and her jobs of rescuing dogs from around the world and her day job. As Ethan finds a dog and chases down a lead bad guys target Cinn for the dogs. As her life in on the line it’s down to Ethan and two rescue dogs to do some damages control. A fabulous book that i read in one sitting. Can’t wait for more.
What an excellent start to this new series! Ethan appears to be a gruff loner but hidden beneath his exterior is a concerned, kind man who cares deeply for animals especially trained service dogs.
How his story develops is written with great understanding and skill to make this an interesting and entertaining book and one I thoroughly enjoyed.
Now that the SEALs of Steel series has ended we see the Badger’s new company Titanium Corp. take on a different kind of project. At the request of their former Commander they are going to look for and check on some military K9’s that had left the system and fell through the cracks.
When asking who, Ethan’s name came to the forefront as he had been a K9 handler and trainer. They just had to convince him to do it.
Where he’s sent to look is Levi’s territory, so we get to see a few of the Legendary Security guys. Gunner is a friend of Ethan’s as well and has a place for him to rent while he’s looking for the first dog on the list, Sentry.
As he’s searching he finds not Sentry but a female German Shepherd. She’s hostile and growling as he approaches. She’s severely injured and losing blood and as he lowers himself to the ground he hears someone stop behind him. Stone is behind him and he has an anesthetic to administer to the dog so they can get her the help she needs.
Ethan sort of meets Cinnamon at the Clinic while Louise is doing her best to save the dog. She brings him coffee and tries to have a conversation with him, but he’s more than a little preoccupied. One of the injuries the dog has is from bullets.
But something about Ethan just strikes Cinnamon as someone who needs a friend and she leaves a note with her phone number on it under his windshield.
Instead of calling, Ethan shows up at her place instead.
The ensuing conversation lead to clues where to look for Sentry and also leads to more than what Ethan was expecting.
I love all animals and this is a fast-paced, action-packed story with plenty of intrigue, suspense, laughter and tears combined with slow build romance and a HEA for the dogs.
I can’t wait to read the next book in this great new series.
This is a true and honest review
This is the first book in the new series the k9 files I enjoyed this book I loved the dogs and how the armed forces get worried about these dogs I enjoyed getting to know Ethan and cinn is a stubborn strong woman and I did enjoy having a few fimilar name’s come up
Fantastic start to a new series!
Ethan had an injury that ended his military career. He’s trying to locate war dogs and finds a dog that needs his help. Cinn helps rescue and rehome abused dogs.
Can Ethan win over the trust of the rescue and find the other dogs that are missing? Read and find out!
Great to see the characters we’ve already read about and love as well!
Ethan has been recovering after a major accident ended his military career and after healing he meets up with Badger the main former SEAL in charge of Titanium Corp. to be given a chance to do something he used to do with an important twist. Cinn (short for Cinnamon) works from home as a project manager but is also involved in global dog rescues. They meet she he walks into her local vet’s office with an injured shepherd in his arms and she recognises the human version of a lost soul just like the dogs she helps rescue. Ethan won’t stand by when he sees animals being hurt. Can he sort through the events and whatever is possible with Cinn as well as complete his new purpose to rescue Sentry: K9 File 01?
I loved this story which has so much going on that I could not possibly put it down until I knew that everyone was safe. This is a new series written by the author and was a great twist on the ex-forces stories she has written up to now with this addition of war veteran dogs in need of rescue. This story had plenty going on and some great connections into the SEALS of Steel world and characters. I loved the ending and the potential for Ethan to appear in a few of the books later in this series. Well written and easy to understand it was a great story to read and was easy to immerse yourself into.
Ethan’s assignment is to track down the first of twelve missing war dogs. In the process of doing that he meets Cinnamon and discovers what he is meant to be doing with the next phase of his life. It was also nice to see the familiar faces from Badger and Levi’s teams Dale Mayer’s other series. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
