When one door closes … second chances open another … opportunity he can’t refuse. A chance to do the work he used to do … with a twist.
Cinnamon works from home as a project manager plus is heavily involved in global dog rescues—dogs of all kinds. When Ethan walks into the next door’s vet’s office with an injured shepherd in his arms, she sees another lost soul—just like the canine ones she helps.
Ethan knows he’s about to take a dangerous step, but he’s on the job, and no one—on the job or not—hurts animals while he’s around. This poor shepherd has taken enough abuse, and Ethan fears she is only the tip of a nightmare he’s determined to uncover. But he knows she’s going to lead him in the right direction.
He has his sights set on saving one dog in particular, Sentry: K9 File 01.

So excited for this series. It keeps old friends in touch but gives us new friends to read about. Dale Mayer is an awesome writer and I look forward to reading more. The characters pull you right into the story with them and I can’t get enough.

A brand new series from Dale Mayer and it’s surprisingly different. OK, I’ve read so many of Ms. Mayer’s book. Or probably all? Ha! Anyway, aside from her psychic books, her SEALs/military men books were almost the same from one to the other. Oh, each of them were unique enough to stand out of their own, but the common thread was always there. And after so many books, they became predictable. Some of the thrill were missing.
This one? Well, I honestly a bit sceptical as again this book featured an ex-military man. However, I was nicely surprised that the human actually took a secondary role. The main subject revolved around service dogs. Love it! This made the storyline around the humans also somewhat different.
I was provided a complementary copy by the author / publisher through Booksprout, but this in no way influenced my thoughts or opinions.
Oh my gosh.. I have so much respect for the men, women, and dogs that serve, and this book was outstanding!
Ethan is on a mission of sorts.. he’s going to try and locate a war dog, and check on it’s wellbeing.
He finds the dog and meets Cinn, a woman who helps rescue and rehome dogs from all over the world.
Sentry was a well trained war dog, but he’s been abused and tormented. It’s up to Ethan to try to win over Sentry, and let him be the amazing creature he started out as.
So much love for this book!

I really love the idea of this series; what happens to our K9 veterans. Ethan is at a crossroads in life on an uncertain path to his future, but a chance mission may just lead him to where he is meant to be. I really enjoyed Ethan and Cinnamon together. They had such great chemistry. Plus Cinnamon has such strength that will match perfectly with Ethan. I loved Ethan’s passion for the dogs. I really loved the scenes with him working with the dogs. It’s like magic with what he can do. It gives these animals hope. It really broke my heart to see what they were exposed to. This book is well rounded. It has heat, heart, humor, and suspense that at times kept me on the edge of my seat. I can’t wait to read to more from this series.
WOW!
What a fantastic new series!! I love everything about it!
I was totally captivated from the very beginning. This story grabs your heart and doesn’t let go.
I enjoyed all the descriptive and informative details about the area and about the K9 Unit as a whole as well as the individual dogs, their training and the commands used. I love the heart of this story. It’s all about the dogs and their journey from trained military dogs to becoming retired or discharged military vets. They are still good dogs, well trained and very confused.
This is such an in-depth and intriguing story. Cinn has the skills and connections to help dogs in need from all over the world while Ethan has the touch and instinct to train and handle even the most difficult dogs he comes across. This story puts you right there where all the action is. You can feel the heat and almost taste the dust when Cinn must improvise or get captured.
This is definitely a rapid page turner! You won’t put this book down until you find out what happens! I am excited for this series and can hardly wait to start book two!
Excellent job! I loved it!

This is the first book in a new series by Dale Mayer. Based on this impressive novel, this series will be highly entertaining and very thrilling.
Ethan is a former SEAL who was seriously injured in an accident. Not only did he lose his leg, but he also lost his own K9 dog in that accident. When Ethan comes to visit his friend, Badger, who is also a former SEAL, Ethan is looking for a way to move on with his life now that he is no longer in the military.
As it turns out that Badger receives a call from the Navy. He wants someone to search for twelve K9 dogs who have ended their careers in the Navy. Unfortunately, the Navy has track of them. Badger offers this job to Ethan who was a dog trainer and handler in the Navy. Ethan agrees.
We first meet Ethan as he is chasing after a severely injured dog who is loose on the street. The shepherd badly needs medical attention, but he is too afraid of people to let anyone get close enough. Ethan is able to talk the scared dog into going with him to the vet.
At the vet, Ethan meets Cinnamon “Cinn,” who is also a dog lover. In her spare time, she is part of a “global rescue group.” She helps find homes for rescue dogs around the world. She also has two of her own rescue dogs.
Ethan and Cinn are perfect for each other. They both love dogs and go out of their way to help and rescue them. In fact, they both prefer the company of dogs over human beings.
Ethan discovers that the dog he has just found comes from a place nearby when he finds three more dogs. The owners of them are drug dealers who have trained them to become killers by using pain and abuse to train them. Ethan plans to re-train them to become service dogs by using kindness and respect. Ethan also discovers that one of these dogs is Sentry, the first name on that list of missing K9 dogs.
Meanwhile, the survivors of the raid come after Ethan and Cinn, because they want their dogs back. This is where the author skillfully creates non-stop danger and action. These “bad” people are willing to injure or kill Ethan and Cinn to get them back. In spite of the fact that we know who the villains are, we are never sure where they or how will attack.
Ethan chooses to take these dogs with him to help fight off the villains. Yet, we are never sure whether Ethan’s training is working enough for the dogs to follow his orders during some tough situations. Also, the author creates even more tension when Ethan and Cinn are confronted by the drug dealers. Who will the dogs side with?
I found this book to be a very exciting page-turner. It is a fast moving book with lots of action and intrigue. It is also interesting to “observe” Ethan work to re-train these dogs. And, it is fun to “watch” Ethan and Cinn work together as they fight their attraction to each other.
I have a soft spot for military men and dogs and this book has both covered.
I love the tenderness which Ethan feels for the dogs even the ones that aren’t War Dogs. And the fierceness with which he fought for the dogs to rescue them from the cruel situation they were in. What started out with an injured dog seen from the road he was traveling on turned into 4 that needed to be rescued and loved.
And Ethan’s quick attachment to Cinnamon but really hated that it put her in danger although he was able to come to her rescue. And the sparks between these two were slow to catch but when they did it was like no other chemistry they had ever felt.
Lots of action, and twists in this page turner book.
The HEA was a blessing for all the animals rescued
Received an advance copy from the author through Booksprout.
I loved this book, I love the military stories and throw in some K9’s and you have a hit. Ethan and Cinnamon were great together and I really enjoyed the story line.
Dale Mayer has done it again with this new series. Ethan book is everything and more that you would expect from Dale Mayer. I loved this story and it is a must read for all book lovers.
4.5 Stars
This is book 1 In the K-9 Files series and it features Ethan and Cinn. These two have a quick, strange friendship with an implied attraction. Any other book would have had me pulling my hair out at the slow pace of their romance but considering his personality, state of mind and her sort of prickly (not sure that’s the correct word to describe her) personality, their romance moved at the perfect pace. The story line was so good, full of action and adventure, that the romance took a back seat until much later in the book. The dogs were awesome and Ethan confidence in working with them was exciting.
I love the concept and this first book in the series hits the mark! The story line has great flow and the characters are all mostly familiar from other series. I can’t wait to see what adventure the next book takes us on.
Ethan a K9 handler has been asked to look for a missing war hero canine. She has gone missing and the War Dept is worried about her. Cinnamon is a warm hearted lady that loves rescuing and finding homes for homeless dogs. Throw in strange activity at the place down the road, a kidnapping and drugs before you know it you have a major problem on your hands. Cinnamon is caught in the middle of it all, when the bullets start to fly.
I will not give a spoiler. You will have a hard time putting the book down. I did because of the you just have to see what is going to happen next. I love Dale Mayer books. She never disappoints

Superb read, was sucked in from the beginning and stayed there. If you enjoy hot military characters and animals then you will love this series. Ethan works for Titanium Security run by Badger and his team. This mission which Ethan goes on is to find and check on an ex K9 dog – Sentry whose where abouts is unknown. Ethan sets out to last place Sentry was seen and soon starts to unravel a whole lot of problems. He meets Cinnamon whose love for animals keeps her busy rescuing them from all over the world before finding them a new forever home. This is an extremely heart warming story, showing that people do care about animals and stopping bad people doing awful things to both animals and other people. A wonderful read.

Ethan is the first book in a new K9 series. While Ms. Mayer’s affectionate readers will find many common themes with other books of hers, they will be pleasantly surprised by how she has been once again able to create fresh and original stories.
Ethan has worked with the members of the Titanium Corporation, aka the protagonists of the SEALs of Steel novels, and is also friendly with a few of the members of Legendary Security, Levi’s team.
His story, however, is told with a brand new angle. Even if Ethan is a wounded veteran himself, the atmosphere of the book is not as dramatic and highly emotional as in the SEALs of Steel books. This time, the focus is on the war dogs story, while humans play a sort of secondary character role.
Seven canine characters dominate the scene, each one of them with a different personality and a different background.
They surround the two human protagonists providing them moral and active support when they embark, almost involuntarily, in an adventurous and dangerous quest to dismantle a drug cartel.
Ethan is an intriguing character. An introvert individual, injured and lost, he is extremely skilled and competent. He draws motivation and finds a clear path for his future thanks to his interactions with the dogs.
His counterpart, Cinnamon, has a peculiar personality. A professional project manager working from home, she volunteers at rescuing dogs from war raged countries. While she shares the love of animals with Ethan, she is emotional, mercurial and outspoken.
Their encounter gives both of them the chance to rethink their life choices and move towards a shared goal, with all the difficulties and struggles that can be expected given their different personalities.
Ethan is, of course, an action-packed book. The story flows steadily, keeping the reader pleasantly glued to the page. There isn’t, however, the frantic rhythm often found in novels of the same genre. The author, instead, takes the time to explore the interactions between the humans and the animals, creating a myriad of enticing, entertaining and sometimes moving interludes.
Finally, Ethan is a great, fresh start for this new series. Animals lovers will appreciate the dedication and the passion that the author pours into describing the dogs’ adventures, and every reader will be captivated and moved by this sweet and charming tale.

Ethan by Dale Mayer
The K9 Files Book One
Ethan Nebberly has always been somewhat of a loner, but since he’s been out of the military…he’s even more so. It’s been tough. He’d lost his K9 partner…and his leg. When Badger asks him to help hunt down some former War Dogs, Ethan takes on the job. He soon finds something to look forward to again.
Cinnamon “Cinn” Michelson loves helping dogs. So much so, she helps find dogs home that are from some of the foreign countries. When a new guy comes to town and finds an injured shepherd, she wants to make sure the dog is well taken care of. Not in the hands of some drifter who can’t even take care of himself.
War Dogs aren’t your average pets. They’ve been trained as soldiers. In the wrong hands…they are a dangerous weapon. Add abuse to these beautiful creatures and Ethan has his hands full. Great story. Loved reading about the dogs. Looks like this is going to be another page-turning series.
**Sensual content and language

We find out what Badger and the guys from SEALs of Steel decided to do which was great, Badger enlists Ethan to search for the first of the War Dogs Sentry and there begins our new series.
I really like how Ethan was wary of everyone apart from the dogs and Cinn, he is ready to put himself between the dogs and a threat as well as do all he can to save the dogs. There is loads of actions, suspense as well as worry and the slow burn between Ethan and Cinn as great as it made it feel more natural and then you can’t forget about the dogs both the aggressive ones and Cinn’s adorable ones!
I can’t wait to read ore of this series!!

I absolutely loved this book. It was so true to life. The story is about the main character being assigned to go in search of a dog who has served in a war. The dog has been sent home either due to injury, PTSD and/or illness and has been assigned to someone who is supposed to care for the dog and keep the dog for their own. But, for some reason, the dog has been lost. Things are not easy in the search for the dog but the main character is determined to protect the dog and the ensuing story keeps you guessing and has you rooting for the K9 and the main character. This book grabs your attention and doesn’t let go! What an awesome start to a great series about an awesome subject! If you love dogs and action you will love this book!!

This is the start of a new series by talented author Dale Mayer. Ethan is sent after a K9 that went missing after being sent home. Along the way, he meets Cinnamon, who is ready to help. Yay I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
A wonderful first book in the K9 series. I love how you still hear about the characters from the other series’s. Terrific book.
After a career ending injury Ethan is trying to adjust to civilian life and the death of his working dog as well. When Badger, who now owns Titanium Security, is asked to find some missing service dogs he believes that the best man to find the first dog Sentry is Ethan.
Cinnamon is a project manager who works from home and is also actively involved in global dog rescues. They meet at the vet’s office, but Ethan’s investigation has put Cinnamon in danger. Will they be able to rescue Sentry and find out who and why he was taken before it is too late?
This series kicks off with a story filled with romance, banter and suspense and shows not only the love between people but the love that pets and their owners share as well.
